oh my this takes me back to about 1974, remembering my friend Joanne who passed in 1989, we used to listen to this album when we were 17 and sang this in school during break. Happy times.
Too many favorite songs on this album to single out just one. Across the Board is certainly one of them, but Ballad of the Chrome Nun is one of the most deliciously incendiary tunes I've ever heard, and Fishman is just as sexy as Across the Board, only more subtle with its references in Shakespeare. And who can forget Sketches of China, one of the loveliest songs Grace and Paul ever wrote?
I break out in trippy chills when she does the yodel in the middle of the song. What a voice, and you gotta have some strong control to keep those vocal dips in check. This is a beautiful song while being hilarious at the same time . Only Grace.
The power in Grace's voice still goes right through me, like the first time I heard her 43 years ago. Grace Slick, Janis, Stevie Nicks--for me the three greatest women in rock and roll history.

Grace Slick's a favorite. This song is so rarely heard today, the lyrics not commonly offered online. I notice a cat who saved his skin on the album cover. It's hard to skin a cat.
I understand. Cool, thanks and si si, ceeceerider. 5*
Grace's best all out rocker and Jerry Garcia's solo at the end just nails it. This, along with Sunfighter and Blows Against The Empire are the best side projects Slick and Kantner did, The airplane albums of the early 70's were very weak by comparison
My favorite song on this album also. I requested her to sing this in LA in 1974 at the Dragonfly concert and she did. She's the real thing!! She has a voice like a machine gun on full automatic. Love that woman!! also like Fishman on this album. She's been inspirational in my life for42 years now,,, wow!

I agree with jstraw4 - Totally. Grace, Janis, Stevie - then in a slightly different field, Sandy Denny.
