Most guitarists can be imitated. Including Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert etc etc. But it's pretty impossible to imitate Paco De Lucia. That right hand of his sets him apart from other fingers - and shits all over plectrum users.
@schwoazi finally i've found somebody who think just like me! Al's style didn't fit at all with the trio's sound. even though Al did play in theyre last album a couple of tunes with nylon string guitar, he didn't get the sound of a flamenco guitar like John always does.
I am a finger style guitar player myself so i can say only one thing..one pick cant match up to 5 picks in finger style playing but i guess steel needs the pick/plectrum only...and strumming is forte of steel strings...
It's called "David" but the beginning it's from the album called "One summer night-live" from 1984 it has songs such as: Alta Mar,Palenque,Chiquito, and others...this song is influenced by the song called Zyryab at the end of the play...it's a lovely mix of various songs.Cheers
Emmanuel's a great technician too, like MAB or Lane, or Becker. But I prefer more melodicism
than Emmanuel and Shawn tended to use, more phrasing then MAB and Becker tend(ed) to use.
MAB does play incredibly well here and there, like on his accoustic medley vid (saw it here on YouTube, visual quality's not the best, but the music is pretty well unbelievable), but unfortunately he's inconsistent, sometimes just seemingly going through the motions. Maybe he's moody, I don't know.
After Django these guys are the best along with Birelli LaGrenne, Ritchie Blackmore, Stochello Rosenberg Marty Friedman, Danny Gatton, Stevie Ray Vaughn,Yngwie Malmsteen, Mark Knoppfler, Tony Rice, Elliot Fisk, Christopher Parkening, Grisha Goryachev, Tibi Tatrai, and a few more. I know they're all different styles, but I'm pretty eclectic except for (C)rap and most punk.
John goes from very subtle to extremely agressive, slow to lightning quick quite often in his playing. I wonder if he's listened to Django a lot, since Django was full of that kind of fire and passion. I think Django is still the ultimate because even when exploding his music was always beautifully melodic.
The level of understanding between these two men is extraordinary. These guys tap their feet with more feeling than most players solo. Another level of existence, let alone guitar playing.
THanks man! I snagged them all 3 months ago though!LOL! Do you have Florianopolis too? It is on youtube split it 2 parts, but very low quality. I prefer the quality of yours. If you have it, it would be awesome!

The name of this piece is Belo Horizonte, from the album by the same name that McLaughlin released in the early 80s.

each guitar style needs its own technique. with a pick you can play all guitars, 6 and 12 string, nylon
/steel, electric/acoustic. with classical technique you stay on one guiar only.
