  • Finger mechanics are one thing.... but the feel of the music, and to apply it is EVERYTHING!!! Well Done!! SOLID!

  • You are "Hep to the Jive" Man !!!!! Swing it !!!

  • that was fucking awsome.... you rock keep it swinging

  • Great job...rockin' song,too ;)

  • wow!!! way to lay down a walk! you should definitely listen to the wife more often... try out some Jaco sometime... something more rock/funk from Jaco might suit you like "Come On, Come Over"

  • amazing walking mate :)

  • i typed in swing hiel and this came up

  • You need to listen to your wife more often hahaha, that was awesome. Please put some more jazzy stuff!!

  • Wow man that was aewsome I am so a big fan of you right now :-)

  • Hahaha, now THAT was a curveball! Right on!

  • Not quite the curveball as "Jingle Bell Rock", but it definitely is in the same spirit.

  • Holy shit that fucking rules. MOAR I SAY MOAR!

  • Haha, that's some great stuff!

  • I love the groove you get in to =D.

  • WOW! I LOVE IT! I have never heard of the movie but now I want to! That was awesome! And it looked as if you were really into this one! Ta Ta 4 now!

  • It is a good movie...a little sad, but inspiring nonetheless. Thanks for the compliment, and yes, I "get into it"...it's the one place where being a spaz is a benefit.

  • LOL! Spaz no! I thought it went very well with the song! Keep busting them out!

  • That was excellent! It's suprising that you did all that improv. So did you do some practicing at all with the song before hand and decide or just turn on the song and camara and just wailed out on it on the first time?

By the way your description reads it seems like you just picked it up and went at it. Either way, love it to death and that sounds like that bass line should be in the song lol.

  • I apologize if you feel misled, but I of course played through it a few times to get the feel for the keys first. Hunting and pecking for keys is a messy affair best not recorded. However, what I do within the keys is entirely different each time I play it. Also, I had heard the song quite a few times over the years without having tried playing it, so I knew how the song went and the timing.

  • For example, I know that the first "flow" section is in A, so I play around A. The next one is in D, followed by another D...and I have to somehow end up on C at the end of that segment. The horns at the end I follow, but I walked it the take before that. The high-end solos in between the horns are completely made up...no keys necessary. If you know this basic information and how the song goes, impoving isn't that much of a feat.

  • Ahh I see, I'm still learning all this stuff with bass so not familiar with all that yet. But either way, still great job, cause I was about to say, if you just picked that up and went off on it like that first time around that would of been a major feat lol. Still, Major props to you for trying things outside your norm, keep it up!

  • Very nice! I know I like it. :)

  • Qual Ampli? Valvulado?

  • yeayea i dig it

  • get your wife to post a video :P p.s. awesome playing and keep posting so i have sum tunes for the morning ;)

  • Hi zodiakironfist, how are you?

    hey!!! another excellent video!!!

the improvisation is very good, I improvise too.

you have a Peavy? is very good!

    have a nice day!!

    -Ale-

  • Yup...a Peavey TNT150.

    And thanks, Ale.

  • Great video. The only thing that could make it better is you playing an upright bass.

  • Trust me, if I was playing an upright, it would not be better. It'd suck pretty badly. I have no experience on one.

  • i dont think you would fair too badly on an upright. your finger style is very much like that of an upright bassist, mine too. maybe thats why the first time i played an upright my only problem was playing in tune. So i think its safe to say that if i can play upright, you certainly can. i also noticed that youve gotten more control of your 'rocking out' its gone from being less spazzy and more groovy.

  • Oh Hepp Me Jeebuz!

This is primo, 'it just don't mean a thing if it hasn't got that swing'.

    Bravo, I love it.

  • Thanks...as usual, I'm all over the place, but I'm only acting with my own particular.......idiom.

    Do-wah do-wah do-wah do-wah do-wah!

  • Well, Mr. Rob, what can I say?...

First of all, glad to see you posting a video mid-week. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think that's evidence of some free time, and not so much bug-studying.

Second: thanks to the wife for requesting this type of tunes! It's a nice change of pace from your usual material, which is also awesome, but this one shows how versatile you are.

    Third: nice hat.

Fourth: did we ever found out what that "something green" was?

    Fifth: 5/5.

  • In fairness, I shot this on the same day as Dethklok. I just waited a few days to release it because my wife had to approve of it first (she knows swing...I'm just learning it).

And the answer to that other question, my good friend, is espinacas.

  • good job, you should take a crack at some charles mingus stuff

  • I haven't heard much Mingus, but I know him by reputation.

  • if you want a rocking walker you should try 'Moanin' or 'Hora Decubitus' one of his more distinctive basslines is 'haitian fight song'. Im sure if you fair well with swing you would adapt well to jazz

  • good stuff dude

  • Thanks

  • nice job :)

  • Nice! But come on...! shouldn't your wife have walked in at the end of the video and applauded your swing session? Tell her some random person on YouTube said she should make you a nice dinner or something for putting yourself out there for her. That's all the peer pressure I can offer and it prob won't work but mine as well toss the line in the water.

  • LOL....she is in the kitchen making me chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and something green. I am well-taken care of. Perhaps me playing the tune is payment for how well she treats me.

That, and she is camera shy and demands to be left out of my videos, so it's a no-go on the applause.

I'm afraid my cat and my best friend are all of the people around me that you are likely to see.

  • Haha, well... it does sound like you owe her. Sounds like it's even. I don't blame her about not wanting to be in the camera. I think the first video I ever saw of yours you had your buddy chilling on the couch playing video games are something and you were busy LRRG'ing lol

  • I just read my comment - I was definitely half watching the baseball game while typing that hot mess. You should be able to transcribe it though.

  • Spegetti Western. That video came out rather well.

  • from funk to rock to metal to swing--- like an lrrg of all styles

  • There is one unifying factor though....a good dose of dorkiness and nutbaggery.

  • Oh....that irony of playing Benny Goodman while wearing an Arch Enemy T-Shirt has just occured to me.

    Second.

  • Actually, third...lol

  • This kind of music definitely has some of the funkiest bass I've heard.

  • It does. I used to make fun of old people for their "big band" stuff. I'm an ass...I should have listened to it. GREAT stuff....and you can see where rock n roll got its beat from.
