My feelings on the day Mr Rudd made the apology speech, were of great pride, to be Australian. I felt good in my heart, like we had stepped up and away from a past that not very long ago, still held public hangings (for whites). Children, women and workers had a lot less rights/equality than they do today. So I felt like it was a good first step. Not an answer to all, more a feeling of goodwill in general. I didn't see it as us now being guilty, more just giving some respectful acknowledgement

The ALP won the 2007 election due to its promises on climate change and did nothing, they said "sorry" but continued the NT intervention, and introduced welfare quarantining, further stripping Indigenous Australians of their rights. My feelings on the day Mr Rudd made the apology speech, were of great pride, to be Australian. I felt good in my heart, like we had stepped up and away from a past that not very long ago, still held public hangings (for whites). Children, women and workers had a lot less rights/equality than they do today. So I felt like it was a good first step. Not an answer to all, more a feeling of goodwill in general. One big reason why America, NZ and Australia were invaded and taken over by Europeans so effectively was because of the small populations of indigenous peoples in these lands. Their actions on the financial crisis were brilliant, but a good economy isn't the only important thing for a good society.
