Actually observed this El Cap rockfall which occured on July 7, 2008...was only about 100 - 125 yards away on the El Cap trail...the sound of the initial break and cascading fall was incredible...almost like the combination of a 10 second lightening bolt and a military jet...was concerned that the rock fall would actually reach where I was but it stopped well short...the most amazing naturally occuring thing that I have been associated with...a one in a million shot
