Because of the rarefaction of the air...up to the everest there's no atmosphere, no oxigen, no air.

Actually above the death zone (last 900 metres untill the top) there is only 1/3 of the oxigen.

Around 26,000 feet. The death zone starts at an altitude just slightly above Camp Three... from there, you have a very definite time in which to summit and descend before your chances of survival drop.
