hes baking the xbox 360. That can fry up your system and can last for only so long. After a while it stops working and your whole system gets fucked...
This is actually a very risky way to do it. First of all the electronics can only withstand about 200 degrees when powered on so this has high potential to fry the gpu. Also the gpu only can reach about 300 degrees with this method but the solder for the gpu melts at 450 degrees. Basically your warping the board just enough for the beads to reconnect. The right way to do it is to use a heat gun (20$ at the hardware store)
It really works! Even after several boots. I have elite with hdmi so the console auto turned off like 7min after the begining overheating process. I think it's somekind of overhearting protection function (ironic). Then I put fans back in place and turned the console on. Like nothing ever happened.
Thanks dude! I hope this fix will last as long as yours.
After I put the covers back on, the console turned on fine, but after like three mins the picture got frozen. After boot I see three red lights again. At least in this case it looks like the fix works as long as the console can breath freely.
here's a tip, never set ur system in the vertical position! when u do that all the wires sag toward the base which leads them dangerously close to the fan and CPU/ECU! Always lay them horizontally! That way they simply lay.
Dude your first video was 6 wasted minutes of crap. But thank you for posting part 2 which was the one with the actual fix. I just tried it, it worked right away. I let it cool down for 30min. I've been playing Halo 3 for 4 hours without a single glitch. Everything looks good, hopefully it stays that way. Thank you for your video
Another thing that would help is getting the GPU heatsink with the heatpipe, they have them on llamma.com but it's $25. I'm fixing my friend's 0102 soon, hopefully he does have the updated heatsink because i don't want to spend another $25 :P
hey i tried this fix, and left for about 5 mins, then the fan started to go higher and higher, and i shut it off before it did anything to mess it up. is this normal? i am asking because this is not my xbox i am fixing
so youre overheating the gpu, then letting it cool? with the fan unplugged? i tried another way which i heard was better, u leave the fan on the CPU, but block it form the gpu, cause the CPU has the heat detection and will shutdown b4 the gpu gets hot enough... but the fix didnt work, it lasted liek 10 mins
I have had this problem, theres a temp fix just press your sync button 1 time let it flash then hold it while the xbox turns on.. BUT it could be caused by a faulty solder between the chip and the mother board, i would NOT recommend sending it to MS go to a xbox 360 mod/repairs shop and get ur CPU reballed (re soldered) it only costs 60$ and takes about a hour you will get PROPER thermal paste not the shit microsoft puts on it and the xclamps will be taken off and replaced
i did this last year, it lasted about a year, now it keeps red ringing even with the fix so it is not a fully permanent fix, but wat you can do is do this and trade it into a games shop and trade it in for a ps3, thats wat i did!
hey buskirkd....the 0102 and 0020 are actually different but with similar causes... the 0102 is the cpu/gpu bolts putting force on the motherboard sensors because of expanding and when it shrinks the sensors think there is too little force. the 0020 is the error for too much force exerted on the board usually happens when retightening screws after x clamp fix but can happen from an expanding gpu or cpu , also.
this is called baking and it only works for so long. i did this along with a 12v mod and i still get it. i might have to attempt the heatgun fix.
basically wat he's doing is overheating the GPU but keeping the CPU as cool as possible. google baking a xbox 360 and you'll find out how to do it. and btw, the first videos was rubbish, it was 6 minutes of nothing while the actual "fix" video was two minutes?
Unless the first thing you do when you get your xbox is remove the x-clamps you are almost guaranteed to have this problem in about exactly a year... if not this you will get the E74 which is just as bad. Save your self the hastle and just get rid of the x-clamps and some arctic silver and it will run cooler and most likely never break.
ehm just to let you know the new xboxes with hdmi oder new chipsets shut down by itself before it overheat so dont use the towel trick anyways repair it only take the x clamps off , put new thermal paste on the chips and screw the heatsinks back on with new screws and washers ( you wont damage the mobo ) then dont put the fans on. start the xbox in 2 - 3 minutes its overheatet so let it cool out 15 - 20 minutes and put the fans on and start it so theres your working xbox ( permanently )
why don't you people just call microsoft repair centre? its easy. when my xbox broke i ordered repair. all cost me £60 (including tax and sending to and from MS). repair took just a week, after that i've got from MS a brand new console, 12 months renewed warranty and 1 month gold membership for free. i think it was worth it comparring to PS3 repair price (£150 and only 3 months warranty). and i'm not a fan boy, i just know what i can afford:)
that overheat shit is dangerous :) after some times you will get 2 red lights when you turn on xbox even if it will be ice cold you will get 2 red lights and horrible sound of fan :)
Can the original video poster provide an update? Has it been working OK for you all year?
I had the 0102 error twice last week. Fixed it once by overheating the GPU...only lasted a week. Fixed it next with the heatgun...it's been OK since (fingers crossed). I also did the penny trick, cut holes + added fans to the top, used Arctic Silver on the processors, and put cardboard on the top of the heatsinks so that air is better pulled THROUGH the sinks. Stock GPU cooling is terrible, IMO.
My brotha has ta take his bak again bc of da red light of death this is gonna b his 6 time sendin it to da peoples ta fix it dats fucked up he shouldn't have ta keep gettin it repaired but idk bout da way u did it cuzzo i mean not everyone xbox gets fixed dat way
Warranties do run out, and when it does, the consumers pay. My warranty just ran out for everything except rrod. And when that runs out, I'm going to rip the sticker off on purpose. I'll be sure to get my money back.
And what if your 360 is out of warranty? I'm on my fourth one and it just died... surprise surprise they want me to pay for it again... fix it for free my ass
I had an xbox for 2 years and it only ever locked up from scratched games. when i got the rrod it was because i had it in a bad place for heat and it was an overheat error. i switched it off and back on and it's been working for a year and a half since.
instant fix: replace dvd drive. optional: get some more cooling fans (if u want led u can itll spice up ur 360 with lights!) that fit existing holes. even more optional: cut some area out of the thin plastic case good enough for an extra fan (bigger the better), add a mesh/grill so you dont get stuff caught in it. you should be good to go. another thing you can do is leave the top off and have a household fan blow on it, but it kinda gets ugly after a while.
I thought u farted

You're basically resoldering the joint using the 360's own heat.
