Yep when your life doesn't fit the Proclamation on the Family you're ostracized through so called "Church Discipline". It's so sad how the LDS Church has so much love and so much goodness to give yet they still have a HUGE distance to go with God's gay and lesbian Sons and Daughters. The LDS Church has failed its gay members miserably!
"There are conversations going on about the church constantly," he said. "Those conversations will continue whether or not we choose to participate in them. But we cannot stand on the sidelines while others, including our critics, attempt to define what the church teaches.
"The challenge is that there are too many people participating in conversations about the church for our church personnel to converse with and respond to individually."
I've lived in Utah now for slightly more than half my life. And not merely in Utah but in a very Mormon neighborhood in a very Mormon county, teaching at Brigham Young University. So, whenever I've heard the exhortation "Every member a missionary," I've wondered what to do. Non-Mormons are a rather exotic breed around here.
However, a December 2007 commencement address given at BYU-Hawaii by Elder M. Russell Ballard largely answered my question.
Marriage is a sacred relationship between a man and a woman.
Unless of course you are Joseph's Myth or Breedem Young. In which case marriage is between a man and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and some teenage girls.
There is no "celestial marriage." Mormonism does not supercede Jesus' sacred Science. "Woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck" "For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" Matt. . Beliefs of matter-marriage do not enter the heavenly state.
Why is there so much divisive nature with religion....didn't Jesus stand for unconditional love? Did he want us all to know we were family, yet all I see from this church and others are preaching hate, against their brothers ad sisters and anyone who doesn't believe the way they do are outcasts. What happened to the love? Isn't that the only LAW?
Bishop Burton lives to serve, to uplift and to build," said Lane Beattie, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. "As the presiding bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he has administered care for those in need. As a passionate supporter of the arts community, he has helped enrich the lives of thousands of Utahns. And as a businessman he has overseen the unprecedented investment in our capital city at the City Creek Center. He is truly a Giant In Our City.".
More than 500 Mormons gave up their weekend after Hurricane Gustav, going from house to house in neighborhoods, clearing trees and putting tarps on roofs. Last spring, more than 200 Baptists donated their time to help restore a school. About a month ago, during the hottest part of the summer, I stopped at a light where a group of young people, from the Healing Place Church, were handing out free cold water.
The Ashanti regional director of Social Welfare, Mr. Benjamin Otoo, had called on the community to come to the aid of the orphanage. Personally joining in the clean-up effort, he commended Church members for their kindness.
Justice Anthony Kennedy’s decision says this: The laws involved in Bowers and here . . . seek to control a personal relationship that, whether or not entitled to formal recognition in the law, is within the liberty of persons to choose without being punished as criminals.[ii]
SALT LAKE CITY 16 September 2010 Service is one of the core values for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout the world, hundreds of thousands are joining with their neighbors, service groups and organizations to meet the demands of growing communities. Two significant Mormon Helping Hands events recently took place in the northwest region of the United States.
Elder Ballard spoke of many figures in the Bible and Book of Mormon, emphasizing their pioneering work, including Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Lehi, Nephi, Alma, Moroni, Peter, Philip, Barnabas, Mark, and Paul.
He said he had just returned from a 13,000-mile trip through Europe, holding many meetings with church members and missionaries. "In Rome, we met with two cardinals of the Catholic Church along with other important leaders. In some ways we are pioneering relationships with many other faiths to assist in protecting religious liberty in America and many other countries."
During the portrayal of Lehi and his family leaving Jerusalem, the cast demonstrated the importance of relying upon the Lord for guidance. They were led to understand that Latter-day Saints have "Liahonas" today — the scriptures and a living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson.
Voices of cast members proclaiming "Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb," filled the air, as performers exited the stage, in missionary attire, holding aloft copies of the Book of Mormon and bearing banners representing nations of the world where the gospel has been proclaimed to date.
"President Monson's love of the youth and his counsel to help them more fully understand who they really are through occasional participation in larger youth activities, was the means through which the Lord inspired and directed this remarkable event," said Elder Craig A. Cardon of the Seventy and president of the Africa West Area. "We believe this is the first area-wide youth activity in West Africa.
Simultaneous celebrations were held in 20 venues throughout Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Casts with as few as 40 members to more than 1,700 members, performed before a collective audience of more than 30,000 individuals.
ver 100 suffered minor home damage or loss of a vehicle. The majority of the affected families were in the Bellevue, Smith Springs, Winstead Hill, Rock Springs and Smyrna Wards and the Cumberland Branch. No church buildings received any damage...
The flood waters reached four counties in Tennessee causing so much damage they were deemed federal disaster areas. Over 20,000 homes were destroyed or damaged with 21 deaths across the state.
Fortunately there was no loss of life for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but 42 lost their homes in the floods or suffered major structural damage. O

"Being part of the life-giving moment is a great and significant thing that each mother finds anew with wonder and discovery. Although it has happened millions of times through all the centuries of time, each moment of birth, when hallowed by the eternal perspective of the restored gospel, is in fact a new beginning in the drama of life….
this is what i have done to my family and ever body that see this vido no it true and it can hapen to you . so please lison to your hart and god befor its to late for u
So what in the hell does the problems of happy ass Mormon families have to do with prop 8 and gays being allowed to get married? So maybe if they try to take away the rights of those who they think are sinners, that maybe these smug happy ass people can feel better about themselves? Oh yes makes perfect sense...NOT.
@omiolo There is nothing to consider, I AM LDS, and I have an opinion, the character being portrayed in this video is very much a "douche bag" and I am not ashamed to say it in the least. PS you can find me sitting next to you in the Temple any day, Accept the fact that we are a large tent
@rd1999 It is NOT having an opinion that leads me to ask that question it is simply that (from what I have seen) your opinion seems to be exclusively against most LDS people. That exclusivity usually only means one thing.
@omiolo Intelligent Mormons on YouTube are safe from my criticism. Poorly produced and dated videos like this one do little to further the Faith, I disliked having to show it on my mission, now I have a forum to express my objection. I have no problem with thinking Mormons like HiveRadical or any of the official LDS channels
@omiolo "want the faith furthered" ??? If you are asking what I do to further the Faith on line I would say keeping you guys on task in terms of truth it a worthy act.
@rd1999 that wasn't what I was asking, but that is fine. Best of luck with your endeavor. I will still probably ask you every 6 months or so that same question.
@rd1999 so you will start furthering the faith as soon as you finish you inquisition of ridding youtube of what you deem to be lies? I would think then you have a Phd in Church history, or science or something equivalent for you to be the final arbiter of such. That would make you an expert, right?
@omiolo Do you seriously think the only people who are able to tell the difference between truth and lies are those with PHDs? Many Mormons here on YouTube spreading falsehoods are also those with PHDs like your friend Daniel Peterson who like you cares nothing for truth but just wants to counter the critics
Thank you, my brothers and sisters, for your faith and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for all that you do in your wards and branches, in your stakes and districts. You serve willingly and well and accomplish great good. May the Lord bless you as you strive to follow Him and to obey His commandments.
Family's come in all shapes and sizes not just your typical 1950 white family with two kids lol Mormons practiced polygamy including some of there most glorious prophets like john smith but he was never excommunicated?
At this very moment, someone is saying, Brother Andersen, you dont understand. You cant feel what I have felt. It is too difficult to change.
You are correct; I dont fully understand. But there is One who does. He knows. He has felt your pain. He has declared, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.
We then are allowed to choose: will we repent, or will we pull the shades down over our open window into heaven?
Alma warned, Do not endeavor to excuse yourself in the least point. When we pull the shades down, we stop believing that spiritual voice inviting us to change. We pray but we listen less. Our prayers lack that faith that leads to repentance
How do we decide where our repentance should be focused? When a loved one or friend suggests things we need to change, the natural man in us sometimes pops up his head and responds, Oh, you think I should change? Well, let me tell you about some of your problems. A better approach is to humbly petition the Lord: Father, what wouldst Thou have me do? The answers come. We feel the changes we need to make. The Lord tells us in our mind and in our heart
For most, repentance is more a journey than a one-time event. It is not easy. To change is difficult. It requires running into the wind, swimming upstream. Jesus said, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me. Repentance is turning away from some things, such as dishonesty, pride, anger, and impure thoughts, and turning toward other things, such as kindness, unselfishness, patience, and spirituality. It is re-turning toward God.
Some listening today may need a mighty change [of] heart to confront serious sins. The help of a priesthood leader might be necessary. For most, repenting is quiet and quite private, daily seeking the Lords help to make needed changes.
What a marvelous privilege for each of us to turn away from our sins and to come unto Christ. Divine forgiveness is one of the sweetest fruits of the gospel, removing guilt and pain from our hearts and replacing them with joy and peace of conscience. Jesus declares, Will ye not now return unto me, and repent of your sins, and be converted, that I may heal you?
I am amazed at the Saviors encircling arms of mercy and love for the repentant, no matter how selfish the forsaken sin. I testify that the Savior is able and eager to forgive our sins. Except for the sins of those few who choose perdition after having known a fulness, there is no sin that cannot be forgiven.
I placed my hands upon his head to give him a priesthood blessing. Before speaking a word, I felt an overpowering sense of the Saviors love and forgiveness for him. Following the blessing, we embraced and the man wept openly.
Years ago, I was asked to meet with a man who, long before our visit, had had a period of riotous living. As a result of his bad choices, he lost his membership in the Church. He had long since returned to the Church and was faithfully keeping the commandments, but his previous actions haunted him. Meeting with him, I felt his shame and his deep remorse at having set his covenants aside. Following our interview,
Among the tens of thousands listening to this conference, there are many degrees of personal worthiness and righteousness. Yet repentance is a blessing to all of us. We each need to feel the Saviors arms of mercy through the forgiveness of our sins.
That would be NICE if everyone had a perfect family like you are picturing, but as a social worker, that is NOT the case. I guess only MORMONS have perfect families. Only MORMONS deserve to be happy! It is too bad you are bringing all of this hateful attention to yourself and your beliefs. Beliefs that are OUT OF SYNC with the rest of the world.
So sorry that you feel this way. LDS families are not perfect either, but if people lived the way they know they should, then maybe the world would be a better place. These principles are not just for Mormon (LDS) families they are for all families. I hope that you find peace with all the ugliness that you must deal with. Maybe by implementing some of these teachings to your family, you will find happiness as well.
Beautiful and true video about spending crucial and most important time with your spouse and children. This video has nothing to do with Prop 8 however. Wouldn't it be amazing if gay Latter-day Saints were given even half this kind of love, respect and legitimacy within the LDS Church. When that happens the Church just might, just maybe might be taken into heaven like the city of Enoch. It's definitely not ready for the Bridegroom until the institution and the people can love in such a way.
@Jacksonholenativ - Look pal, love, respect and legitimacy within the LDS Church does not mean you allow any person to do as they wish. There are rules and regulations in no matter what organization you name. If someone cannot abide by that simple concept, then it is they that has the problem, not the organization.
@shooster11 It's far more complex than that shooster11 and it's so sad that the Church as an institution is terrified to face the fact that same sex couples who are committed and loving are truly a family and they are part of their families (traditional ones) that love and accept them as part of the whole. Prop 8 was overturned a short time ago and the case will go before the Supreme Court and it is very likely same gender marriage will be a part of the law of the land as it is in Canada, etc.
@Rockymtntruth - Yes, it is far more complicated, but that's not the issue here. Prop 8 simply defines what marriage is, a union between man and a woman. Nothing more, nothing less. If two men or two women want to be recognized legally, let them do so, but what's being fought for in Prop 8 is the official definition of what "marriage" is. The church is not terrified of anything and in fact, has come out and said that same-sex couples should receive equal treatment under the law.
We really don't give legitimacy to what we consider sin. The John C. Bennett's of the world are never given full fellowship unless they repent. Hopefully, no LDS person is treating ANYONE as less than a child of the Most High God.
It would be so cool if people could really KNOW the other side ... those of you who are not mormon and have tried to speak of their doctrine are, for the most part, completely ill informed. You really should learn the truth ... you are misjudging the LDS Church. As for the Mormon contigent ... I am not sure how allowing "gay" couple to wed hurts you in any way. We should allow people to make their own choices it is one of the tenents of the Mormon church ... "free agency".
California Council of Churches and the Episcopalian Bishops of Northern California and LA support the overturn of Prop 8. Briefs were filed in CA Supreme Court.
Many Mormons seem very upset by the anger and hatred directed toward them in the past week. Don't they realize gays are subject to anger and hatred ALL THEIR LIVES? Not just words, but physical attacks with fists and weapons resulting in disability and death? Imagine being Matthew Shepard, tied to a fence and beaten for 6 hours and left to freeze to death. Imagine attending a funeral for a son and having people show up with huge signs saying your son is burning in hell.
Im not upset, I find it sad that the gay community has promoted theyre agenda for years, have asked to be treated with respect, kindness, and understanding, and as soon as people disagree with them on a issue. they get mad, spit on, throw things at people and bully people around. Everyone can be a target of hate, many st8,gay,black, brown and white people have died for no reason. The gay community should show respect for those that disagree with them. Mormons know plenty about persection and hate.
Don't lump all gays together. Not all of them "spit" or "throw things at people" or "bully" people around. More gays have been murdered by an intolerant society in the last 20 years than the entire history of the Mormon Church. They picked on the wrong group this time, and the reverberations will last for generations.
@Prop8Commentary That's so true. It will last for generations especially as society changes dramatically around the Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's general membership sees this reality and has to deal with the growing dissonance until it is intolerable among your average member and among some leaders as well. What then? As Terry Tempest Williams once stated "what happens when our institutions no longer serve us?...What we hear is not what we know."
@omiolo What in the world does your comment have to do with mine? There is no logical connection whatsoever. Any dough head knows that groups are formed by individuals with their own personal beliefs, motives, agendas, etc. Everyone knows that stereotypes are oversimplifications of individuals within groups. That's what my comment is about. Your comment has no logical connection whatsoever to stereotypes or false judgments about a group of people you don't understand. Get a life.
@Prop8Commentary right! How do gays who stand together be lumped together??? You can NOT have it both ways NO matter how you SPIN it or feign IGNORANCE.
@omiolo Powerrodboy claimed all gays "spit" at people, "throw things at people" or "bully" people around. That's a LIE. I told Powerrodboy not lump all gays together like that because not all gays act that way. Then YOU come along saying we deserve to be lumped together because we stand together. That's a TOTALLY DIFFERENT TOPIC. Stop being retarded, Omiolo. You don't defend the Mormon church by telling LIES about people and writing stupid comments that show your ignorance.
@Prop8Commentary Actually powerrodboy claims the "gay community", NOT ALL gays. And he is correct in saying that the gay community does those things. I would enjoy hearing the gay community condemn those things and the ANTIreligious and ANTIfamily gay pride parades and festivals. They are CLEARLY an abomination to ANYTHING Godly in this world.
@omiolo Omiolo, you need to get outside, stop playing so much on the computer, and get a life. PowerRod's comment does NOT distinguish between those who are "gay" and those who are part of a "gay community." That's YOUR projection. Furthermore, not all members of the "gay community" spit on people, bully people, or do the things he accuses them of. I'M a member of the Gay Community, and I have NEVER spit on anyone. It's a LIE, Omiolo. Accept it and move on.
@Prop8Commentary I am pretty sure he used the term "gay community" instead of ALL GAYS. I am pretty sure there were a few gays in Iran that didn't spit on Mormon Christians........
@omiolo You're making assumptions that are NOT supported by Powerguy's original post. He specifically says "gay community" WITHOUT EVER QUALIFYING WHO the "gay community" represents. You're reading his post and making up your own assumptions about what he's saying. Just can it, will you? You're off your rocker. Go do something else and stop wasting peoples' time with your warped posts.
@omiolo Since you lump all gays together, then I will use YOUR logic and lump all Mormons together. On Sept 11, 1857, a group of Mormons SLAUGHTERED a wagon company of men, women and CHILDREN at Mountain Meadows, Utah. According to YOUR LOGIC, Omio, because SOME Mormons were bad, then ALL Mormons are bad. That makes your a MURDEROUS, LYING, HYPOCRITICAL, CHRISTIAN-IN-NAME-ONLY HATE-MONGER. Look at your posts, Dork. Christ never taught people to vomit hatred like you do. Get a life.
@Prop8Commentary Actually the Mormon Christians at Mountain Meadows were protecting themselves from the possible massacred promised by the wagon train. Since, many of those threats had been carried out previously, the Mormon Christians involved had very good reasons to believe it would happen again. Secondly, the US had declared war on the Mormons at that time, so attacking a wagon train in war is not uncommon. Nice try though.
@omiolo Omiolo: you need to go check your MORMON sources. This argument is NOT true, even according to LDS scholars. I can't believe I'm even talking to you at this point. The Mormon leaders told the company they would receive safety from the Indians and safe passage, provided they put down their guns and marched out of their camp. On a predetermined cue, the Mormons turned and SLAUGHTERED THEM. They were completely defenseless.
@omiolo Furthermore, NOWHERE did Mormons attack wagon trains during the Utah war in the manner you described. The wagon train was full of people who were NOT part of Buchanan's army. It was a completely, totally, different group. The Mormon leaders, overzealous in their need for revenge from past wrongs, LIED to the travelers by telling them they would be safe, and when the Mormons had all their weapons, they SLAUGHTERED THEM without mercy. That you would try to defend such actions is SICK
@Prop8Commentary "The wagon train was full of people who were NOT part of Buchanan's army."
worse, the wagon train was from Missouri and Arkansas, two places were Mormon Christians had been slaughtered and some in the group bragged about it as they made their threats.
@omiolo Oh, I get it: the Mormons were justified in what they did, right? Are you out of your mind? Did you bother to read how the LDS Church OFFICIALLY APOLOGIZED for the Mountain Meadows massacre? Did you read how the LDS Church NEVER rationalizes the murder of those people the way you are trying to rationalize it? You don't even know what the Mormon Church's position on this matter is, do you! You just spew nonsense in your attempt to defend MURDERERS!!! You're not a real Mormon.
@omiolo Bullshit. Complete and utter Bullshit. Anytime a group of people slaughters another defenseless group of people (esp. if the murdered people were promised safe passage), they would NEVER be justified. I used to think you were just an irritating halfwit who posted junk on youtube. But now it's clear you're a narrow-minded, defensive, murder-justifying fanatic. You claim to be a Mormon, but you clearly do not practice the religion. Christ would never approve of this crap. Leave.
@Prop8Commentary I realize that in your ANTImormon world, PROFANITY is common place. However, we are Mormons and as such we try and keep EVERYTHING we do family oriented. In fact we worship a God who says, "suffer the children to come unto me for such is the kingdom of heaven" Refrain from PROFANITY and VULGARITY when doing ANYTHING associated with Mormons.
@omiolo You call "bullshit" profanity, while you sit there and justify the MURDER of defenseless men, women and children? What's worse, Imo? A swear word, or murdering innocent people? YOUR MORALS ARE TOTALLY MESSED UP. You get all self-righteous because I say "bullshit," while in the same conversation you're constantly rationalizing and justifying MURDER. You call that "family oriented" That's TOTALLY FUCKED UP. You are seriously WARPED, Imo. Seriously Warped.
@Prop8Commentary You were warned and yet you continued in your PROFANITY. Mormon Christian videos will remain family friendly in spite of you. You will be banned. Feel free to return when you can talk and act like an adult.
@solomanspaming I do NOT know of ANY Mormon Christian who said that? Do you? In fact you probably do NOT know any Mormon Christian. Too busy LYING about them.
So is anyone here aware that Joe's myth wrote the "book of commandments"? Its 65 chapters of blasphemy (later renamed the Doctrine and Covenants) telling you exactly how you should live because what Jesus taught ( to love God and do unto others as you'd have them do unto you ) is no longer the right way to live.
Smith Married 11 other mens wives, so he surely didn't do unto others as he wanted them to do unto him. He was no martyr either. A martyr doesn't shoot and kill 2 men trying to flee
@omiolo Do yourself a favor, do me a favor, do everyone else who reads your unbelievably ignorant postings a favor, and just shut up. Stop posting this nonsense. Stop acting self-righteous. Stop trying to defend indefensible actions of Mormon history. Step out of your fantasy world, get a real life (one that's not on a computer), and practice what your Mormon religion preaches. And I'll give you a hint: hateful speech is not a family value, and neither is ignorance.
@omiolo From the LDS website (go read it for yourself): LDS Scholar, Richard Turley, wrote "This month marks the 150th anniversary of a TERRIBLE EPISODE in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On September 11, 1857, some 50 to 60 local militiamen in southern Utah, aided by American Indian allies, MASSACRED about 120 emigrants who were traveling by wagon to California. The HORRIFIC CRIME, which spared only 17 children age six and under..." Go read it and shut up.
because djbearrob, the mormons choose to ignore the racist history, and pretend it didn't exist, because they would have a lot of unconfortable beliefs to explain.
BRIGHAM YOUNG said the following while not busy having sex with is 55 wives (some of them children)
Journal of Discourses
Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African Race? If the White man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so.
And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.
FACT: Mormons were never "required" or "forced" to vote for proposition 8.
FACT: it was the BLACK vote in California that was most responsible for passing Prop 8.(70% of black voters voted to define marriage as being one man-one woman only).I don't notice these protesters starting trouble in THOSE neighborhoods. I wonder why.....?
(...and they always seem to challenge every religion...except the Muslims! Again....I wonder why?)
Abraham is not symbolically my father. Why would I want a father who hears voices and wants to murder his children? Almost as crazy as that Joseph Smith made up shit.
Could very well be mistaken about the history. But, the monetary intervention into California's politics by the LDS Church should mandate the loss of its tax-free status.
We should all "love" everyone but that does not include ignoring the rights of others.
Including parents to raise their children how they choose, or to push their beliefs and sexual practices upon them at ages as young as 5 years old this is indoctrination and is selfishness to push forward their agenda of same-sex marriage. They can not procreate so instead they indoctrinate.
Say Yes On 8 and protect the right of Mormon men to forcibly marry prepubescent girls! Say YES to pedophilia! Say Yes to Magic Underwear! Ladies, Say Yes! Your sister-wives will thank you! Protect plural marriage! Thank you Mormons for donating 75% of the money for Yes on 8! I can't wait to pick out a nice 10 year old girl (or three) on Nov. 5th!
I am mormon and I truly do get that family is the one of the many basis of the church, but @ my church they make it seem that if prop 8 passes that children will cease to come from heaven and everything will go wrong me being a gay individual rationalize as i know that not everyone will suddenly turn gay and having children will be a thing of the past rather time will just move and and be as the present, but i'm so confused as some members greet me with"no homo"rather than hi brother[insert name]
Do people really call you "no homo" in your congregation? If they do, I truly am sorry. Of course children will still come from heaven, and of course people will not suddenly turn gay, and it certainly won't make gay people evil, but does not mean that the definition of marriage should change?
your not mormon... you were x-communicated as soon as you decided you were gay. You know better than this. No LDS person says babies wont come from heaven. Thanks for acknowledging Gay is a choice though... this is why it is not violating anybodies civil rights. You cant protect people's choices in the US Constitution, as explained by the US Supreme Court.
huh?? Sorry I cant muddle through the nonsense. Did you have a point? The US Supreme Court says Gay is a behavior... i agree with them. A behavior doesnt qualify for anything. What does that have to do with my constitutional right to freedom of religion and freedom to assemble and free speech?
You rambling off anti-mormom bias does nothing for your cause.
In the 1880s, Mormons screamed "persecution" when their non-traditional form of marriage was attacked on political grounds. Now they are turning the tables and attempting, through politics, to deny anyone else the right to marry in ways other than the current church marriage system
Actually, they were screaming persecution due to the extermination order that was passed in the state of Missouri making it legal to kill a Mormon. But who are they to complain about being raped, murdered, and driven from place to place.
Do a little research before posting stuff kiddo ;)
Mormon individuals make fantastic neighbors. But you've gotten a pretty good taste of how arrogant and pushy their temple square organization really is. They effectively try and succeed in owning and controlling everything in utah including the national guard. And they are using their obscene power and money to push Californians around.
Nice video. Family is very important to us all. That is why you should vote no on 8. Prop 8 will harm gay and lesbian families. Why do you want to do that? Those families will still exist, but Prop 8 will make the children lose there inheritances, lose their only remaining parent when the other one dies, and generally feel shame because their parents aren't "married".
It will have no affect on heterosexual families other than to make some bigoted parents uncomfortable.
We are pro-family. That's truth. Look to the positive. That's what we strive to do. We believe in a marriage between a husband and a wife. It's balance. It's truth. Truth is truth. Focus on the positive.
gays and lesbians are pro-family too. Their families may include their partners and adopted/natural born children.
Why do you want to breakup those families? Why do you feel it is your business to insert yourself in other people's families? Is it because they might be different than your own?
Please why is it that Mormons are so anti gay?Is it because they think anyone who has dark skin ancestors must have been cursed?Maybe its because the native Americans are Jews even though DNA disproves this?Or maybe its because any church who thinks only some people have equal rights is not a truly Christian church.I can not believe any one who truly understands the constitution of the USA would be for creating more oppressive laws.
First off, you better go to the yes on 8 site and look at all the churches who are for this bill. Voting yes on Prop 8 is the ultimate act of love. In the long run, you people will stop trying to use everyoen else to make yourselves feel better about your poor choices. It will hopefully make you people take responsibility for your poor choices and quit blaming your daddy for not giving you enough hugs when you were younger. It will help you quit blaming others for your misery.
Voting yes is the ultimate act of hatred for your fellow human beings.
Blaming your daddy? What are you from the early 1900s spouting some long ago belief that homosexuality is caused because daddy didn't hug you? Please... get a clue.
Blaming others? That's what these religious wingnuts are doing -- blaming gays for their shortcomings and misery.
Mormons, who are financing this proposition, once opposed interracial marriages.
"Had I anything to do with the negro, I would confine them by strict law to their own species...
(Joseph Smith, Jr. History of the Church)
"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot."
"Then they were killed and kicked out of missouri for wanting the state to be a FREE and not a SLAVE state."
How's that for a blatant lie. You were kicked out of missouri for 1) joseph smith's prophecies that jackson county is where god had told them to establish Zion thus scaring the local population that mormons were up to no good; 2) the purchasing vasts amount of land; 3) insular actions like only doing business with other mormons and voting in blocs.
kicked out of missouri because the church leaders were sealing livestock and other things from the neighbors and giving them as gifts to the innocent members of their communities.. and these innocents were getting caught with stolen property.. Of course the leaders would steal wives.. they kept them for themselves.

I live in San Francisco, and most of the people here are gay and assume that I am interested in them. Also, I hear the gay parents who adopt kids tell them that its "normal" to be attacted to the same sex.
Fjr those who are hurt by this video titled to Prop8, I am sorry, It's message is made to celebrate the family. We believe that God has a
plan, for us to be families and that is the greatest joy we will have. I testify I learned this lesson the hard way. God loves us all, we are his family.
God created Adam and Eve. Noah " go ye and replenish the earth." We believe that God's plan of the family has not changed HOwever we believe we all are his children and he loves us all. He is not far he is listening, are you're?
My happiest memory was when I married my partner of 6 years. We vowed to GOD that we would be together until death do us part. I'm Gay, I'm Christian, and I'm voting NO on 8
Oh, you mean like the Scandinavian Countries or France or England, Japan... All Societies rise and fall anyway. Its just how the cycle works. All of the current super powers will cycle out eventually and be replaced. You could as well say "why do most advanced societies with education and civil rights accept homosexuality?" Or you could say, "why is it that the most anti-homo societies produce the most terrorists?" Silly questions but if you want to think about them you can.
Gevasrenaissance, some of us know enough history to know what you are talking about even if natureboywonder does not. Some people just prefer to be ignorant rather than to know the truth.

At this very moment, someone is saying, Brother Andersen, you dont understand. You cant feel what I have felt. It is too difficult to change.
You are correct; I dont fully understand. But there is One who does. He knows. He has felt your pain. He has declared, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.

We then are allowed to choose: will we repent, or will we pull the shades down over our open window into heaven?
Alma warned, Do not endeavor to excuse yourself in the least point. When we pull the shades down, we stop believing that spiritual voice inviting us to change. We pray but we listen less. Our prayers lack that faith that leads to repentance
omiolo 2 years ago
How do we decide where our repentance should be focused? When a loved one or friend suggests things we need to change, the natural man in us sometimes pops up his head and responds, Oh, you think I should change? Well, let me tell you about some of your problems. A better approach is to humbly petition the Lord: Father, what wouldst Thou have me do? The answers come. We feel the changes we need to make. The Lord tells us in our mind and in our heart
omiolo 2 years ago
For most, repentance is more a journey than a one-time event. It is not easy. To change is difficult. It requires running into the wind, swimming upstream. Jesus said, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me. Repentance is turning away from some things, such as dishonesty, pride, anger, and impure thoughts, and turning toward other things, such as kindness, unselfishness, patience, and spirituality. It is re-turning toward God.
omiolo 2 years ago
Some listening today may need a mighty change [of] heart to confront serious sins. The help of a priesthood leader might be necessary. For most, repenting is quiet and quite private, daily seeking the Lords help to make needed changes.

What a marvelous privilege for each of us to turn away from our sins and to come unto Christ.
Jacksonholenativ 2 years ago
@Jacksonholenativ - Look pal, love, respect and legitimacy within the LDS Church does not mean you allow any person to do as they wish. There are rules and regulations in no matter what organization you name. If someone cannot abide by that simple concept, then it is they that has the problem, not the organization.
shooster11 1 year ago
@shooster11 It's far more complex than that shooster11 and it's so sad that the Church as an institution is terrified to face the fact that same sex couples who are committed and loving are truly a family and they are part of their families (traditional ones) that love and accept them as part of the whole. Prop 8 was overturned a short time ago and the case will go before the Supreme Court and it is very likely same gender marriage will be a part of the law of the land as it is in Canada, etc.
Rockymtntruth 1 year ago
@Rockymtntruth - Yes, it is far more complicated, but that's not the issue here. Prop 8 simply defines what marriage is, a union between man and a woman. Nothing more, nothing less. If two men or two women want to be recognized legally, let them do so, but what's being fought for in Prop 8 is the official definition of what "marriage" is. The church is not terrified of anything and in fact, has come out and said that same-sex couples should receive equal treatment under the law.
shooster11 1 year ago
@Jacksonholenativ "legitimacy within the LDS Church"
We really don't give legitimacy to what we consider sin. The John C. Bennett's of the world are never given full fellowship unless they repent. Hopefully, no LDS person is treating ANYONE as less than a child of the Most High God.

Mormons know plenty about persection and hate.
powerrodboy001 3 years ago
Don't lump all gays together. Not all of them "spit" or "throw things at people" or "bully" people around. More gays have been murdered by an intolerant society in the last 20 years than the entire history of the Mormon Church. They picked on the wrong group this time, and the reverberations will last for generations.
Prop8Commentary 3 years ago
@Prop8Commentary That's so true. It will last for generations especially as society changes dramatically around the Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's general membership sees this reality and has to deal with the growing dissonance until it is intolerable among your average member and among some leaders as well. What then? As Terry Tempest Williams once stated "what happens when our institutions no longer serve us?...What we hear is not what we know."

Go do something else and stop wasting peoples' time with your warped posts.
Prop8Commentary 1 year ago
Get a life.
Prop8Commentary 1 year ago
@Prop8Commentary Actually the Mormon Christians at Mountain Meadows were protecting themselves from the possible massacred promised by the wagon train. Since, many of those threats had been carried out previously, the Mormon Christians involved had very good reasons to believe it would happen again. Secondly, the US had declared war on the Mormons at that time, so attacking a wagon train in war is not uncommon. Nice try though.
omiolo 1 year ago
@omiolo Omiolo: you need to go check your MORMON sources. This argument is NOT true, even according to LDS scholars. I can't believe I'm even talking to you at this point. The Mormon leaders told the company they would receive safety from the Indians and safe passage, provided they put down their guns and marched out of their camp. On a predetermined cue, the Mormons turned and SLAUGHTERED THEM. They were completely defenseless.
Prop8Commentary 1 year ago
@omiolo Furthermore, NOWHERE did Mormons attack wagon trains during the Utah war in the manner you described. The wagon train was full of people who were NOT part of Buchanan's army. It was a completely, totally, different group. The Mormon leaders, overzealous in their need for revenge from past wrongs, LIED to the travelers by telling them they would be safe, and when the Mormons had all their weapons, they SLAUGHTERED THEM without mercy. That you would try to defend such actions is SICK
Prop8Commentary 1 year ago
@Prop8Commentary "The wagon train was full of people who were NOT part of Buchanan's army."
worse, the wagon train was from Missouri and Arkansas, two places were Mormon Christians had been slaughtered and some in the group bragged about it as they made their threats.

Barak Obama's parents could not have gotten married in nearly one third of the states in the US until the court re-defined marriage in 1967.
Barak Obama's father would not have been allowed into the mormon clergy before 1978.
Why are so many mormons ignorant of their "church" and the history of racism in it?

Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African Race? If the White man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so.

2 NEPHI 5:21
And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are against Gay Marriage.
The Knight's of Columbus, the Catholic group, gave millions also.
over 50 percent of Latinos voted against Gay Marriage.
70 percent of African-Americans voted against Gay marriage.
It is their right and belief and right to vote the way they want.

5th!

I am mormon and I truly do get that family is the one of the many basis of the church, but @ my church they make it seem that if prop 8 passes that children will cease to come from heaven and everything will go wrong me being a gay individual rationalize as i know that not everyone will suddenly turn gay and having children will be a thing of the past rather time will just move and and be as the present, but i'm so confused as some members greet me with"no homo"rather than hi brother[insert name]
crackerheadjack 3 years ago
crackerheadjack,
Do people really call you "no homo" in your congregation? If they do, I truly am sorry. Of course children will still come from heaven, and of course people will not suddenly turn gay, and it certainly won't make gay people evil, but does not mean that the definition of marriage should change?
brendasuzee 3 years ago
your not mormon... you were x-communicated as soon as you decided you were gay. You know better than this. No LDS person says babies wont come from heaven. Thanks for acknowledging Gay is a choice though... this is why it is not violating anybodies civil rights. You cant protect people's choices in the US Constitution, as explained by the US Supreme Court.
jxwhit8 3 years ago
Being a member of a made up cult is a choice. Not being gay.
brandyspearsca 3 years ago
huh?? Sorry I cant muddle through the nonsense. Did you have a point? The US Supreme Court says Gay is a behavior... i agree with them. A behavior doesnt qualify for anything. What does that have to do with my constitutional right to freedom of religion and freedom to assemble and free speech?
You rambling off anti-mormom bias does nothing for your cause.
jxwhit8 3 years ago
In the 1880s, Mormons screamed "persecution" when their non-traditional form of marriage was attacked on political grounds. Now they are turning the tables and attempting, through politics, to deny anyone else the right to marry in ways other than the current church marriage system
brandyspearsca 3 years ago
Mormons have rejeceted polygamy and embraced traditional marriage. And so should the gay community.
Your arguements and anti-mormon rhetoric is so weak and mundane.
jxwhit8 3 years ago 2
Mormons stopped polygamy so Utah could join the Union. The US refused to allow Utah to be a state until the "church" doctrine was changed.
It doesn't change the fact that polygamy is condoned in the early versions of the mormon "scriptures" that were "found" in New York.
Gay people are trying to do just that - embrace marriage.
If you really want "traditional marriage" go back a few centuries to when only marriages in the Catholic Church were valid.
Learn history dude!
Djbearrob 3 years ago
Actually, they were screaming persecution due to the extermination order that was passed in the state of Missouri making it legal to kill a Mormon. But who are they to complain about being raped, murdered, and driven from place to place.
Do a little research before posting stuff kiddo ;)
joeshawaii 3 years ago

StupidBigot 3 years ago
We are pro-family. That's truth. Look to the positive. That's what we strive to do. We believe in a marriage between a husband and a wife. It's balance. It's truth. Truth is truth. Focus on the positive.
sandman142 3 years ago
gays and lesbians are pro-family too. Their families may include their partners and adopted/natural born children.
Why do you want to breakup those families? Why do you feel it is your business to insert yourself in other people's families? Is it because they might be different than your own?
cryan71 3 years ago
Please why is it that Mormons are so anti gay?Is it because they think anyone who has dark skin ancestors must have been cursed?Maybe its because the native Americans are Jews even though DNA disproves this?Or maybe its because any church who thinks only some people have equal rights is not a truly Christian church.I can not believe any one who truly understands the constitution of the USA would be for creating more oppressive laws.
blastapore 3 years ago
First off, you better go to the yes on 8 site and look at all the churches who are for this bill. Voting yes on Prop 8 is the ultimate act of love. In the long run, you people will stop trying to use everyoen else to make yourselves feel better about your poor choices. It will hopefully make you people take responsibility for your poor choices and quit blaming your daddy for not giving you enough hugs when you were younger. It will help you quit blaming others for your misery.
gypjet 3 years ago
Take your meds!

Funny how mormons are now racists, when they were killed and kicked out of missouri for wanting the state to be a FREE and not a SLAVE state.
Who were the slave supporters the NON RACIST BAPTISTS.
Hows that for irony?
As far as interracial marriage goes, an act of congress legalized it 1964 civil rights act.
If you want to legalize gay marriage produce another act from congress.
Why don't you do this? You don't have the votes.
Hmmm your attacks on mormons are clearer
sadskippy 3 years ago
"Then they were killed and kicked out of missouri for wanting the state to be a FREE and not a SLAVE state."
How's that for a blatant lie. You were kicked out of missouri for 1) joseph smith's prophecies that jackson county is where god had told them to establish Zion thus scaring the local population that mormons were up to no good; 2) the purchasing vasts amount of land; 3) insular actions like only doing business with other mormons and voting in blocs.
cryan71 3 years ago
kicked out of missouri because the church leaders were sealing livestock and other things from the neighbors and giving them as gifts to the innocent members of their communities.. and these innocents were getting caught with stolen property.. Of course the leaders would steal wives.. they kept them for themselves.

Here is the big secret that Mormons don't want you to know:
Utah has a higher than average spousal abuse rate.

These are the mormon family values.

gevasrenaissance 3 years ago
Oh, you mean like the Scandinavian Countries or France or England, Japan... All Societies rise and fall anyway. Its just how the cycle works. All of the current super powers will cycle out eventually and be replaced. You could as well say "why do most advanced societies with education and civil rights accept homosexuality?" Or you could say, "why is it that the most anti-homo societies produce the most terrorists?" Silly questions but if you want to think about them you can.
