Yngwie was actually playing in pain in this gig. He had sliced his left index finger on a guitar string and used super glue to bandage it. He also pissed off the soundman during soundcheck which resulted in the low mix. he still conquered L.A. despite what evrybody else says and thinks.
Very cool! Check out my artist/virtuoso guitarist Marc Eric. He played on one of Graham Bonnet's albums and has just released a new CD which includes a cover of "Lights Out" (Michael Schenker)
yngwie had a fight and insulted the sound engnieering guy before goin on stage that day...and so the guy lowered the guitar volume as a consequence to teach yngwie a lesson...
thats why u must never mess with the sound engineer guy
let Me just say that Blackmore is God, but Yngwie & Vai are fun too....Vai is just too out there for a rock band (although my prog side digs his stuff )......& Yngwie has to cram every note into every phrase he plays.....
but they're both still genius........................
@Metalgod668 I agree.. I hate the fact that Vai had to add his Vai-Isms. His playing simply doesn't go with this style of music. I would have wanted my money back if I had gone to this gig thinking Malmsteen was there, then seeing Mr Ruins Every Song He Covers...
It's funny seeing Yngwie in this setting. He was kind of unknown back then but he still stuck out from the rest of the band. It's no wonder they parted ways!
I just recently heard some interview w/ ex members of Alcatrazz and the bassist was bitching how Yngwies' playing confused HIS OWN playing as a bassist. Malmsteen MADE alcatrazz you ex bass-playing dingleberry not YOU.. These guys are barely hanging on to their careers and Malmsteen's a legend with countless fans/endoresements. Btw, Vai is great, but Alcatrazz was hella better with Yngwie..Vai kinda ruined it.
Well, what can be said about that : Bonnet is struggling in high notes.. as usual. And Yngwie is doing his "mini Blackmore" shredding as usual...very good indeed....
I don't remember seeing a jacket like that on Adrian. and how would you know about the other guys fasion ware. Go back to watching the pet boys shop or what ever it is. And stay off these kind of sites.
The Rock Palace was the first time that I saw Yngwie and Alcatrazz waaaay back in 1983. This brings back a lot of memories. I was just starting to play in a band and I remember going over to the drummer's house and seeing this on his television. He was one of the few who had a vcr back then. Remember those top loaders? I remember him taping the Rock Palace every week. Great show. Thanks to whomever posted this!!!
Rock Palace was a great show; never missed it. They had Ronnie James Dio, Les Paul with Jeff Beck, Ultravox, Night Ranger. Great stuff when I was in high school.
Too bad Graham Bonnet was having an off night. I could have hit some of those notes.
Yngwie Malmsteen is great guitarist.

@Aku666Torres Can you imagine being in a straightforward rock band and suddenly Yngwie is your guitarist? Talk about a baptism by fire!

Graham Bonnet's voice spoke for itself....He wasn't changing his look & while not a visual fit, the music is the key element...

Yngwie - Vandenberg wants his jacket back.
Graham - the Pet Shop Boys called. They want your whole outfit back.
Jan - 70's porn just rang - they'll be needing that facial hair back now.

yeah. He's good in spots. I think he writes vocals a little too high for his range.

There is and always has been something faintly ridiculous about Mr Bonnet - and not just the crap notes he pulls here.
