What does the word at 01:10 and 01:57 mean? Sounds like the German word for a weightlifting bar (Stange). My coach says that in every third sentence (he´s Russian and so are most of our lifters) and now I want to know :P
@shiznick2 Hang on, son. For one, Taranenko holds a world record: highest clean and record lifted in competition, period. Whether you wanna go with the changes in weight class or not, I dont give a shit. Provide some actual basis for your arguement other than speculation and observation (poor at that, actually). You and that other idiot are the reason why weightlifting gets a bad name, people spewing shit out of their mouths cos they think they can and have seen the sport on Youtube.
@Iberian1980 Let us see. You try to provide a counterargument based on observation and in two lifters? How about providing some intelligent logical rebate? Seriously, you and that other fella are not the brightest bulbs huh? FACT IS, a higher bodyweight is a disadvantage because you have to lift one kilo more if you weight more than your opponent i.e thats how Steiner won. Provide me some intelligent reasoning and I will debate with you until then, shut it. And yes, short version, you are wrong.
@centhocklars01 Tremendous disadvantage in what? If anything being at a higher bodyweight is a disadvantage because in the case of lifting the same weight, the lifter with less bodyweight wins. This is why Steiner in the 2008 Olympics had to lift 1 kilo more than Chigishev as otherwise the Russian would have won. Look at WR holders Pisarenko or Taranenko, they are much leaner than Steiner or Rezazadeh. Being a walking tub of fat does not help. Stop talking crap.
@Rogelio22 ur totally wrong mate. for one pisarenko and taranenko dont hold the world records. having more bodyweight gives you more strength to get a bigger clean and jerk. thats why reza always beat chigishev and same with stenier. its because they have a much bigger clean and jerk. dnt get me wrong chigishev is an awesome lifter but he hasnt won because of his weaker clean and jerk, which is cause of his lower body mass
@Rogelio22 Higher weight is an ADVANTAGE. Pretty obvious actually. How often do the 69kg lifters out lift the 85 or 105+ lifters. Never. Chigishev being as lean as he is is impressive. The fact Chigishev is 124kg and Reza was ~164 makes a big difference. You find someone from the 85kg class who is putting up the numbers that Chigishev does. Those 40 kilos mean a lot.
i dont understand why this man just doesnt put on 100 pounds?? he is out weighed by everyone, yet he out pulls EVERYONE. i think if he had more body weight it would help him out alot
I think Vasili could have CJ'd the 272.5 but credit is only for what one actually did do. Pisarenko weighed as much as 30kg less and did 9 kg more. In the snatch, the 85.5kg Vardanian tied him weight for weight---190kg. Is the man who sets 80 world records better than the man who beats all those records with one exceeding lift? I think not. If Vasili had to do a strict press versus Kazmaier, Bill would have embarrassed Vasili.
skirts 365-you maybe right...iread that ivanchenko won a bet by beating talts and alexeyev in the seated military press by doing a strict 160 kilos..however i think patera was the strongest overhead presser of all time...his 535 olympic press in california exhibition has not been approached
@ 0.42 Actually, I thought that I would lift 5kg less in the snatch, maybe 205, but my coach said I could handle 210, and I actually managed that. Snatch is my best exercise, and I remembered how to execute it correctly
@ 1.45 You have to thank the barbell, I don't really believe in this kind of stuff, but it looks great , you conquered this heavy barbell and you gotta thank it. I don't regret anything (yet), I actually did all that I could, my coach expected me to lift 6/6 and I did my best.
i dont agree for SHWs each kg of BW matters they r not gonna pose to flex muscles like bodybuilding.....and chigishev is naturally/genetically very lean he looked like 94kg lifter when he was in 105kg class So difficult to expect this from other SHW
yes, but reza could easily have beaten taranenkos best, i dont think i ever saw him really struggle, he always looked comfortable, even with 263.5. aranenko was a great lifter, but he looked like he was going to kill himself with 265.5 i just think reza was in a league of his own. even his competitors admitted that they only thought of the silver medal. out of 13 major comps, he medalled in all of em and won gold in 11.
Fantastic lifts! No misses, with 210 in the snatch and 250 in the clean and jerk! Chigishev is a great athlete. I wish I could understand what he says in the interview.
Alexeyev was the best at supers ! He looked and lifted like a giant!

And for the record, we are talking about unneeded fat mass, not muscle mass. That is where the debate stemmed from and what I am referring to.

@ARMFlGHT
I saw him wearing a 2012 London shirt at the 2010 EWCs but I really don't know if he will. He'd most likely be the oldest 105+ if he did.

look how high he pulls 210kg in the snatch. I think he could have done more:)
very impressiv lifter. it is fun to see a lean shw! it is not so usual to see lean shw in in the top

chigishev is a snatch specialist putting up 210kg is what rezazadeh did in 04 but unfortunately its about the c&j that determines the winner
prsguitars92 2 years ago
yes he is. but still, he is not a bad c&j;er, to clean 250kg at his bodyweight is mighty impressive.

He didnt expect stiener to nail 258kg overhead :D and lost Gold

chigishev is the best HW per body weight, he is lean as hell for a heavy, yet he consistantly gets silvers and is competitive as hell he is the best.
rking1012 2 years ago 2
Pisarenko was the most lean and strongest SHW ever But u cant compare lifters of different era Doping Controls, training methods etc but both r gr8
rohitf117 2 years ago 2
No! No! You all wrong! The best SHW is Alexeyev. Ever!
