  • Isn't this ironic? Don'tcha think?

  • i miss this show. i wish they would bring it back.

  • when he jumped at the very beginning... i sorta wished he'd land on that chicks foot lol

  • I used to love this damn show as a kid, Wow

  • I always thought that Alanis Morissette was the absolute most dull character on the show and would have expected Christine Mcglade to become famous instead because she had a hell of a lot more charisma and personality. Unfortunately, I guess connections, luck, timing, marketing, and the bad tastes of the general public had a lot to do with it. Also, Christine could have been a lot more sexy than Alanis with the right image consultant.

  • 50 bucks canadian man

  • I take it the budget was $50 a show?

  • What the hell happened to Alanis?! On "You Can't Do That On Television", she was cute as a button. When "You Oughta Know" came out, she looked like (and still does) the demon spawn of Joan Baez and Janis Joplin.

  • @reivenlocke She looks better now than she ever has! And was it just me or was the dad half in the bag in every episode of this show? lol

  • @reivenlocke

And during her brief stint as a teen-pop musician, she had the typical '80s-style Aqua Net fluff in her hair; which she briefly brought back in 2005, during the era of the release of the acoustic version of her 1995 breakthrough, Jagged Little Pill.

  • What a dunderhead

  • Wow. What did I find in this show? Oh yeah... Moose.

  • "It's like slime on your wedding day or a free ride when you're already paid..."

  • Alanis, so sweet ;)

  • aww wow i miss the 80's watching all these good shows on nickelodeon this was like my favorite show lol loved it

  • YOU DUNDERHEAD

  • They should call their group, the "I Don't Know" so everyone who mentions their name gets slimed. Wait. Then nobody would dare mention them at all.

  • That couple creeped me out as a kid. And they still do. Like Married With Children gone uglier.

  • awww the 80's. i miss u

  • @nintendoshoe i agree! the 80's and 90's had some AWESOME shows!,im glad their on youtube now tho!,i love takin walks down memory lane!

  • I like how these Canadian kids say "about", totally cool.

  • @SpoonyBard2564 You mean how we don't add an invisible w to the word like americans do?

Do you pronounce "out" as "owt" too?

  • Alanis didn't look that bad.

    That's the old days.

Some people look good and some don't.

    Not there fault.

    60's were hippies days. xD

  • Wow Alanis went from looking like a boy, to growing up and blossoming into a Woman. She went from flat chested boy looking, to having big natural double d tits. She also has thick thighs, i cant believe how hot she got.

  • that show was awesome u wont find shows like that now i miss it

  • I remember this show. It was pretty subsersive for the conservative 80s and that's why it was so cool!

  • which one is alanis? they all look like ugly guys.

  • @steveparok00 blue shirt ,red pants beside the guy in the ugly yellow shirt that looks like puke

  • shit, I always thought that Alanis WAS Alasdair

  • when tv didnt suck

  • We are making new episodes as You Can't Do That On YouTube or YCDTOYT

  • She really looked butch in this show. I didn't notice that when I was younger.

  • when was this made? this probobly was one of the first shows on nick!

  • I remember this show growing up in the 1980's and early 1990's.

  • When me and my family were in Florida back in 1991 we actually had a tour of the Nickelodeon slime factory and my brother was chosen to try out tasting the green slime and my brother said quite honestly that the green slime tasted a lot like lime.

  • i know this was big in Canada but i loved watching this in /georgia and California!! great stuff now kids arent kids anymore. im thankful this was my time.

  • God this show was awful.. Can't believe I used to love this!!

  • I can't believe I watched this as a kid... what you watch when you live in Canada in the 1980's

  • wtf did i just watch?

  • OMG Alanis looks like a gay boy.

  • @papatoony She's cute. :)

  • Can anyone tell me the name of this show?

  • @rumputuski It's in the title. You Can't Do That on Television.

  • No wonder she hates Dave.

  • 5:31 Rolling Stones, lol.

Bad acting, terrible jokes, this show was great!

  • Brings back old memeries

  • lol.. I was just thinking... That Mark Twain would disagree with the phrase "I don't know" not being a legit answer on the show. >.< He would probably get slimmed a lot. XD

  • *locker jokes scene*

    "Hey, Ross! :D"

    *fumbling heard in the locker*

    "Uh, Ross?"

"Can't.... move! Oh god, HELP!!! SOMEBODY GET THE JAWS OF LIFE!!"

  • Ironic

  • Did "Christine" move on to a PBS show, about being a clown, sidekick to a puppet? And doing a clock thing with her legs?

  • @corvozoppicando: Not "Christine" in Big Comfy Couch (I had young kids at the time-LOL!).

  • They should bring this show back! It was AWESOME!!!!!

  • The Memories!!!!!

  • god i loved this show

  • OMG. What a blast from the past... I remember watching this show growing up

  • This is definitely breaking with tradition.

  • Haha! you can totally tell Alanis is getting ready to be slimed around 2:56. She looks so nervous and looks off stage like, Damn!

  • ★★★★★

  • MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE

  • Chiquillada fue la versión Latina de You can't do that on television!!! Ah!! ok!! Alanis Morissette EStrella Muy Famosa salió de este programa, Lucerito, hoy Lucero salió del programa de Chiquilladas.

  • @moriya2k2 I would imagine so she's a famous artist. She took up piano at a young age, too.

  • Was Alanis the only person on that show that made it successful?

  • They could have called themselves the "I Don't Knows" - then whenever they toured, they could get the audience to constantly slime themselves by cheering the band's name, or having lyrics in the song that they, and not the band members, say.

    /trollface. :D

  • Bad hair!

  • the only one i liked on this show was the adult male. The one who made the barf burgers. that skit was hilarious.

  • Can Alanis read music?

  • Loveley lady lumps.

  • Thumbs up If your Canadian and Love this show! I know I am

  • @TheSummerfrench

Thumbs up if this is what got you watching Nickelodeon in the US

  • One of the best shows ever I miss these shows a lot

  • Watching this makes you wonder if this sketch had anything to do with her being a musicician.

  • This was one of the many shows I wasn't allowed to watch as a kid, but did anyway, including Married with Children and the Simpsons.

  • Wow, Alanis sure was a big dyke back then.

  • When I was kid I never laughed at this show and now I watch it as an adult I now know why.

  • @orchote Ummm, so they could breathe.

  • I never understood why they always hung their mouths open like apes when they got watered.

  • 4:33 it's MICHELLE RHEE! Apparently, getting a head start cleaning up the schools (rimshot!).

  • Comment removed

  • What, no Barth Burgers in this clip?

  • I remember watching this as a kid and wondering why, after they'd get slimed, they never said "water" in order to wash it off. Seems like a logical way to clean up.

  • @gyniest Yeah!

  • Yeah christine its aboot love...... Just dickered eh?

  • Throwback! Love it. I remember that background with the triangle dome-window pane things and especially the locker conversations!! I could never remember what this was called, I only remember people saying, "I don't know" and getting slimed. Yes!!

  • the video "Alanis Morissette on Tuesday October 21st" is about you can't do that on television.

  • wait was she a regular on this show? I used to watch this all the time.

  • I used to watch this show and loved it. Thanks for the memories! *Peace*! :)

  • It took me five minutes to figure out which one was Alanis.

  • Ahh, those were the days!

  • This must have been the inspiration for you outta know!

  • For a minute I thought the kid in the green shirt was her.

  • I am like the rest.. I loved the show when I was growing up.. The 80's were great.

That is My childhood years. The Good Old days. Yes, All they had to do was say I don't know and they get slimed or say Water and then they get wet. Funny..

Yes I heard that other kids were creeped out ..I think the show was funny!

  • this show creeped me out as a kid. still does. dude.

  • I was between seven and twelve years old when I used to watch this show. It was my favorite. I am amazed at how many of the scenes came back to me, as if I recently saw them even though it has been over twenty years. This was the first show I watched when my family first got cable. Wonderful memories.

  • HAHAHAHAHA!

  • 2:17 what died on head?

  • This is the most Canadian show I've ever seen in my life

  • @tristan01101 Makes sense seeing it was a Canadian show.

  • @tristan01101 I know what you mean.

  • nice heehhhrrr

  • I used to watch this all the time on Nickelodian. You can go the website to see updates on all the cast members.

  • Kind of odd that they called the kids (at least Alanis, and likely the others, too) by their real names.

  • That looks pretty cool. How old is this show? I've never seen it

  • @canadiananny86 This was a Canadian show. It aired form 1981-1990. I used to love this show as a kid.

  • God bless the Canadians... they brought us YCDTOT and Degrassi High.

  • " I don't know"

  • I had a big crush on Allistar

  • The "recipe" for green slime was not listed. It was spoken while the credits rolled & the theme music played. This was Ross's idea.

  • Wow...the memories

  • You got to wonder where the others are at now form the show when Alanis was on the show.

  • i used to watch this show all the time!!!! i remember trying to get the recipe 4 the slime...they showed it once on the credits, but they scrolled soooo fast...if i only tivo existed back in the 80s!!

  • Dam I miss the 1980's they dont have cool stuff on tv like this anymore.

  • OMG I so feel my age now, I used to Love this so when I was a kid!

  • lol @ 6:52 - Phil Pusey as camera man. wow I used to watch this show when I was 5, amazing to see all these characters stored deep in my memory somewhere!

  • SHE LOOKS LIKE A LITTLE BOY!!!!!! WOW!!! I cant believe she looked like that. LOL at the mick Jagger comment...I loved this show when I was little. SOOO Politically incorrect...love it.

  • check her hair omg a if forgot when the white gurls would where the "stacks" that is fuckin awesome!!!!

  • I did not know Alanis Morissette played on the show....wow

  • Yes fans. That's a young Alanis Morissette, 10 years before she become a huge pop/rock music superstar. and now she's a mommy. to quote Bob Dylan "The times they are a changin",

  • that mick jagger is such a hunk!!!!!!

  • What year was this? Oh wait, I just saw on Wikipedia - 1986. She was 12. How fab is that?!!!

  • @bengraven thought that was the guy from full house, who inspired that song

  • Comment removed

  • The father looked like Edger from MIB

  • the parents look frightening. esp the dad!

  • MAN I F@#KN' MISS THE 80'S AKA MY CHILDHOOD !!!

  • I've always wonder what the slime tasted like.

  • Isn't it ironic, don't you think?

  • omg she still has the same voice but not the same look ...

  • All this time and I never knew this show was Canadian. I was just a kid when I used to watch this and was too young to pick up on the accents.

  • @bzurvalec me too.

  • @bzurvalec So was Mr. Wizard. It always bugged me in that show when the kids said "out" like "oat".

  • @xxoxia "So was Mr. Wizard. It always bugged me in that show when the kids said 'out' like 'oat'."

You watch your mouth when you talk about Mr. Wizard. It's because of him that today I'm an analytical chemist. (And by "analytical chemist" I mean "mall cop.")

  • Wow... This is why the internet is so great. I haven't seen this show since i was 4 or 5 but I remember it like it was yesterday watching this. Crazy!

  • @BoroConnoisseur Same here!....check out Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, and Mr Wizard! Mr wizard died a few years ago at 89 yrs old....crazy stuff

  • @BoroConnoisseur Same here!....check out Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, and Mr Wizard! Mr wizard died a few years ago at 89 yrs old....crazy stuff

  • You dunderhead.

  • What year is this? I'll guess 1984 or 1985.

  • funny how they had to sit there and take it...couldn't jump up and run away

  • lol allistar singing "never surrender" by cory heart at the end ....classic

  • LOL!! Alanis Morissette?!?!? You ought ta' know!!!!

  • are all her songs about Allistar then?

  • she's cute :)

  • i finally remember who that dad reminds me of....homer simpson

  • @mbenzsl2000 No no, the dad is totally the guy from Men in Black.

  • Waaaay before Alanis scares the hell out of Men with You Oughta Know lol :)

  • They spelled her name wrong in the credits...I used to watch this all the time, I remember the commercial for bubble tape...6 feet of bubblegum for YOU, not them. Good days.

  • this show was done in Ottawa...my hometown...and i'm fiercely proud and loyal to this show!!

  • Wow, I didn't even notice these horrendously thick Canadian accents when I was a kid! What is that all aboot?

  • @illDiology I never notice that so many of the Nick shows back then weren't made in America!!! Nick and PBS ruled my TV back then

  • @illDiology ahaha...i was going to say the same thing

  • @illDiology you must be American. I seriously can't tell the diff between US and Canadian accents. Apart from the latter saying "ey" a lot.

  • @JiminyKracker we really all dont say eh. well... not as much as you think.

  • @PlayStatiowned lol I know. Just using a stereotype I got from the Simpsons

  • They need to bring back shows like this .

  • I don't remember this show

  • I remember this show. crazy but the locker scenes were the best!

  • I want that Polo shirt.

  • I really really miss the Slime AND THIS CLASSIC SHOW. Don't know why they got rid of the Slime such classic all you have to say..... "i don't know". slime!

  • Are these Canadians or Yoopers?...that was a joke....they sound like Yoopers.

  • Alanis came in for like a year right after they broke up the "Holy Trinity" of Moose, Kevin, and Lisa. The show was just a shadow of what it was, but Alanis had a presence even then, though you could tell she was like a fish out of water on the show.

  • I watched this all the time on Nickelodeon, and it taught me how to speak with a Canadian accent! :)

  • Ahhh.....so many memories from long ago! Used to watch this all the time growing up.

  • My mom never let me watch this groing up when i was little

  • turns out "You Outta Know" was about Alister.

  • I was 15-years old in 1978 when it first aired on the CTV network in Canada. None of my friends watched this show. The only kids who did where social outcasts, shut-ins, or home-school freaks.

  • @AndyBoy63, I was 2 years old in 1978 and obviously too young watch YCDTOT. But when I got older I became a huge fan of the show.

  • @AndyBoy63 What did you do? Smoke pot imported from Texas?

  • @ivegotamagicstix

I'm not sure that I understand your inference. Actually I do Beatles covers.

  • The real crime is that Canadian Tax-payers paid to produce this rubbish. Is it any wonder that all of our stars leave Canada for the US as quickly as possible?

  • @AndyBoy63 - many people think this show is great - especially for: thinking-outside-the-box, most of the adults' characters and acting were great, dark and subversive content and highly distinct style. the show had themes and content that are tv-taboo today. and as for why our stars leave for the US - umm - maybe it's because LA and NY are the long-established hubs for the film industry with populations that rival our entire countries'!?? PERHAPS? don't judge the show based on these celeb clips

  • @AndyBoy63 Hey Andy let's see you do something thta generates almost 200,00 hits on youtube 23 years later

  • @johnmaylivesv

Funny you should mention that. My YouTube Channel of my Beatles covers

( youtube.com/user/AndyBoy63 ) has received more than 250,000 hits in just the past 2 years - and I achieved that without having to pander to 'Canadian content' rules of the CRTC in order to receive Government of Canada and Provincial funding ; )

  • @AndyBoy63 Like I said get back to us in 23 years
