I'm with you on the two Craven-remakes, I like em much more too. Very gritty, you can see both were made by European directors. No offense, but I don't think American directors would've made them this way, with so much balls and without any compromises. Especially Aja.
Somehow I knew The Descent would be an instant classic of the genre as soon as I saw it. Outstanding.
Fast Five is the guilty pleasure of the year! I never thought I'd like a movie of this franchise so much! 5*s
@LiveFastDiarrhea Yeah, I like the way Europeans see our country, people, society, and it's landscape from a different perspective. I had the same reaction when I saw The Descent. One of those rare movies... Fast 5 surprised the hell out of me. Now I'm curious to see where they take the franchise.
Awesome vid and great choices! If youd like to get your hands on a producers cut of H6 id recommend either trying ebay or any horror convention that might be near you, each conv. has a limited number of copies but they are available!. I just got my copy about 2 weeks ago at a convention, deff recommended!
Pretty awesome selection there, lots of ones that i'd love to watch if I owned like The Lost Boys. I agree about The Last House on the Left remake. To me the remake is superior and goes more in depth than the original did. Plus Wes Craven had to kill of main characters in the original because of time restraints, so i'm glad the remake is the way Wes Craven originally intended for it to be. I'll be watching the Paranormal Activity films this year. My new favorites.
@TheKrazyJason lol yeah iw as gonna get that one and the walking dead then i told myself "dont freak out and get shit on a spur of the moment." im more of a friday fan myself.
Great picks! I recommend checking out Attack the Block for an awesome monster movie. Just came out on bluray today and it is a lot of fun. The characters all have pretty heavy London accents but it's a lot of fun to watch.
Fast Five is a terrific movie and is rumored to be a transitional film to turn the series from street racing into a series of heist films. So, we may be looking at another three or four 'Fast' movies.
@HanzoTh3Razor I'm going to try man, I'm going to try lol. Well, I won't get my panties in a wad and get all strict about it, I'll just watch what I really want to. To be honest, some of those I want to watch a second time rather than others in my stack. One of those being Book Of Shadows. I don't know why, but the more I watch it, the more I like it. I agree with you 200% on I Am Legend. Before that alternate ending, it was just a so-so movie for me. Glad to hear The Descent has good pq!
@TheKrazyJason The best picture winners over the last decade have been quite poor in general I think, but Hurt Locker was just offensively mundane. All that fakey-cam stuff...if people desperately want some sort of conflict realism aesthetic....then Battle of the Algiers is right there, waiting for them.
I loved 30 Days of Night, saw it after you recommendedit. Loved Return of the Living dead. I thought it was a pretty damn scary zombie movie. I want to see the Thing. But I actually hated I am Legend, idk if it was me not being able to take Will Smith serious or if it was the "love story" ending, but I didn't like it. No offense.
@goodfellas1001 No offense taken, I can see how people wouldn't like I Am Legend. I almost fell on that side of the fence myself, but I give PA movies more leeway.
Nice shirt! haha Jason is my favorite, so Halloween I will be watching all of the Friday The 13th movies, besides Part 8-10 and then I will watch all the Halloween's of course! haha But anyway, what you were saying about Friday The 13th Part 3, I agree with you on Jason. The way he walks is very stranger and he has his shoulders hunched up and he walks like Frankenstein but worse. Richard Brooker is for sure the worst Jason there was.
There is a coupon out there on the internet for The Hills have eyes remake. It's 3 dollars off. So if you use it at Wal-mart, you can get it for 7 dollars and some change.
Been making my way through the Alien collection on blu-ray. Special features include interviews with Dan O'Bannon which are pretty interesting. I'll have to check out Return of the Living Dead.
The original Last House on the Left is better then the Remake, the Remake is still pretty good but you can't beat David Hess being a psycho and a rapiest. R.I.P David Hess, one of my favorite actors.
I recently picked up The Crazies and 30 Days of Night on blu ray also. I really enjoyed both those movies. I would say 30 Days of Night was better of the 2.
I made the goal of watching 31 movies in 31 days this year. So far I'm at 19 so I'm a little off pace. Thats also not counting the movies I recently bought. I'm probably closer to 40 movies now. I picked up the Scream 5 film set, Halloween 2 remake and Friday the 13th 1, 2 & 3, House of Wax/13 Ghosts double feature blu-ray
@davisp508 You can do it!! Btw, I saw that Scream set at Walmart. 20.00. That's a solid deal. I think I just might have to pick that up, even though I'm already up to my ears in horror movies to watch.
@TheKrazyJason yes I can!! yea, I picked up Scream for $19.99 on Amazon so it was a great deal! The only thing I hated was it didn't come with the slipcover :'(
Halloween 1 & 2 (original), Night of the Creeps, The Gate, Friday the 13th parts 4, 6, 7, 8, Hellraiser 1,2,3, The Changeling, The exorcist, My Bloody Valentine (original), Hammer horror film classics, Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things, The Thing, Return of the living dead 1,2,3.............
Krazy, have to agree with you on 30 Days of Night, only recently added it to the collection. PQ is fucking stunning on it. An example to all other studios when it comes to giving their films the hi-def treatment. Definitely a must for new adopters to blu ray.
@GingerSnapsFast Very true. I need to do a solid solo review of it. I'm a big fan of the director Joe Berlinger. At the time of it's release, it was just a big disappointment because it wasn't like the first one. I'm glad he didn't take it in that direction, it would have just turned into a series like Paranormal Activity where every sequel is pretty much the same. Not knocking those movies, I'm just saying...
Hey Punk, i'd be happy to. I got it from eBay about 5 years ago. It's really bad quality. Not sure if there is better copies out there. It is watchable in a way. I was disappointed though when I received it. I can make a few copies any way. No big deal.
I picked up the Friday the 13th box set and did a marathon this past week, and I have to agree with you about part three. Something about that old 3D process just makes the PQ extremely grainy and murky. And yeah, Jason was more of a bumbling goof in the early entries. CJ Graham and Kane Hodder gave the best performances with that character, IMO.
@Ninkyo893 Yeah, there was just something very off putting about that Jason to me. I really hate to say it, but it was just a really lame performance. It's amazing what people like Kane Hodder can do with no dialogue and a mask on. F13th marathon!! Very cool. I love marathons.
@HorrorMovie408 Ok dude, I just went to the site and someone is offering a 5 disc set for 25.00 shipped. It looks SWEET. There's even art on the discs and bonus material. Very cool. If I enjoy the producers cut, that's the one I'll be going for. It's anamorphic widescreen, and they claim the pq is excellent.
@TheKrazyJason ok dude if you pick up that 5 disc of Halloween 6 producers cut you got to let me know what the 4 other disc are besides the movie. I've never seen that I only got the single disc edition.
Halloween 6 producers cut you can probably find on ISell.com or ioffer.com I love watching Hell Night w/Linda Blair on Halloween. That movie should get a better release.
@TheKrazyJason in my opinion Hell Night is a must have. I guarantee you will enjoy it. Plus it has Linda Blair in her hay day. I guarantee it will be in your Halloween movie stack every year. Pick it up when u can. I mean o thought you would dig trick or treat when I sent it to you I think you'll enjoy hell night as well.
I like your new term for bad PQ "ass" haha. The Hills Have Eyes on blu-ray for $10, if I didnt own the dvd I might pay that... but common Wal-mart with slave labor cant you price that shit at $5. Almost bought Near Dark a few times, but figured it would sit on my shelf for 2 years before I watched it. The part where u talk about watching a non horror film in between your marathon of horror films… I got the feeling you made that up as you were talking. Either way thanks for the shout outt.
@theFLICKpick Yeah 10.00 at Wally is redic. They're selling The Others for 10 as well. Foolish. Made it up as I was talking, lol. You'll never know for sure.
@TheKrazyJason Personally I wasn't impressed with it. I liked the first one much better, but I thought the ending of the 2nd one was great.I got mine at Big Lots for $3 as well so I definitely think it was worth $3.
