Death is something we all have to face, and it does matter how we deal with the knowledge of the finality of death while we are living adults. Please think about this carefully. I'm an atheist. This means I do not believe in Heaven or an afterlife. That makes this life the only one I will live, and it makes it pretty damn precious to me. If on the other hand, I were a Christian, and believed in Heaven, which is supposed to be much better than this life, then the logical thing to do would be to kill myself and speed my arrival there. After all, Jesus forgives all sins as long as you believe in him.

First, I enjoy living and I don't want to stop living. That's why I don't consider suicide. Although, when I was a Christian, I always wondered to myself, why don't I and all the Christians just kill ourselves? We think we go to paradise when we die, so why not? Surely someone who believes in an afterlife will be more likely to embrace death.
Second, I try to be a good person because it gives me a feeling of satisfaction and fullfillment, which makes me feel good. (continued..)

It seems to me that you haven't faced death in a healthy manner. Death is something we all have to face, and it does matter how we deal with the knowledge of the finality of death while we are living adults. It matters, because we need to make sure we have paved the way or left some kind of a legacy for future generations. After we die, we won't know or matter, anyway. This is why I can't kill another human being. Because, after they die, that's it brother.

Why haven't I killed myself? Because I like life, it's enjoyable. It has its ups and downs but overall it's better than not living. But I guess some people need to worship a god to make life worth living. That is truly scary. Oh and the reason I don't go around raping and murdering is because I'm not an asshole and like to promote survival thanks to billions of years of evolution. Not because I'm afraid of how god is going to punish me for being his flawed creation.

To a Christian death is better than life, because you go to heaven. Why is any Christian alive today? To an atheist this is all there is, there is no eternity, this makes life infinitely more precious than it could ever be to someone who sees this as a 'veil of tears' they must endure before passing through the Gates of Heaven.
