  • So is this guy supposed to be like sherlock holmes sort of? I'm just asking but I still wanna see this movie if it's on netflix.

  • This is Way Better then the American Version... God ! I hate that Exotic deep voice... So retarded.

  • chinese love movie

  • Someone who insults people that have difficulty reading a 10+ word sentence in 1 second or less is an ignorant moron. Heard of dyslexia? Attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder? Astigmatism? So, to the top commenters and all others who blanket everything without consideration i'll return the sentiment: Grow a brain. Sincerely, an avid subtitle supporter(thats right).

  • @Maurbel I have both ADHD and dyslexia and I agree with the top two people.... The disorders although difficult to live with do not make me a slow reader... You can read fast and have ADHD and dyslexia... Don't use disabilities to argue your point... Speed reading is an important skill to have. I understand some people have difficulty but the same sentiment applies here. If you cannot run fast don't join the Olympics If the subtitles are too fast for you get a dubbed version or don't watch it.

  • i've been watching movies with subtitles for a long time. As you start watching the movie you forget the subs are even there, you just watch. They can't dub everything. Learn the language or bequiet and get used to subs, it's good for your comprehension skills.

  • movie is dope watch now

  • looks stupid

  • People who complain about subtitles shoudl be sterilized. Grow a brain

  • @carlmark80 directors take great pains to shoot every scene a specific way. i doubt anyone can read and fully take in the cinematography especially in speech heavy scenes. i dont mind subs but i know it DOES take away from the scene where you accept that or not

  • yes it is stupid no matter how you slice it, watching dubbed movies is stupid

  • Why dubbed you asked? Because English language is fucking beautiful.

  • look people, stop complaining that you cant watch movies that are subbed because youre missing the main scenes, just do what everyone else does

    >>READ FASTER<<

unless youre some brain dead moron who can hardly read and has to pause throughout the whole movie just to read the subtitles

  • @SirBlue3719 People complaining about shit like that are mainly American, same ones that go to different countries expecting everyone there to speak English...Quiet pathetic lol.

  • Comment removed

  • hopefully appears heavy rain is in the film

  • Wow, awesome! I love subbed. I mean, after awhile you get to the point where you're looking at the whole screen while reading the subs, thus not missing a thing. But dub isn't so bad, so long as the voice actors are good and fitting.

  • this shit looks cool as hell...and dubbed movies is a sign of poor taste and upbringing (perfect example: dragon ball)...

  • 1:34 priceless

  • where's Ziyi Zhang!?!?!

  • Majora's Mask at 0:22!

  • Check out the UK trailer - it is much better!!

Can't link to it so search "Detective Dee - Cine Asia Official Trailer"

  • Now I know why this flick swept all the top spots the HK Film Awards this year. Tsui Hark! This and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan are going to be favourties.

  • this movie was.............AAAAHHHHHH-mazing.

  • lameeee trailer!

  • I started watched this just now... I'm 4 minutes into the movie: why the fuck would the Ummayad ambassador speak spanish?

  • isn't it pathetic

  • I am watching now....not bad...the story line is quite interesting !!!i love it

  • i watched this movie. yesterday, it was awesome movie. the White faced guy, was awesome with all the equipment.

Andy lau was kinda cool, and the girl was beautifull. it was sad that the white faced guy/ and the girl died.... i wished they lived long and happy.

  • @ChrisACChris Yes! They were my favourite characters! Glad that someone will say the same thing.

  • @ChrisACChris

Don't spoil films by telling people what happens!

  • @Lucidghost u can always ignore my comment.

  • @ChrisACChris

How was I to know you'd put a spoiler at the end of your comment?

I'd already read it before realising, the rest of your comment is just about how much you liked it and then right at the end a massive spoiler...I was reading peoples comments for positive reviews, because I'm lloking forward to it.

  • the white faced guy is fcking batman he had grenades, climbing axes, helicopter shurikens, a dao, a dagger, Ninja skills and a batmobile horse

  • @Myaiga

    HAHAHHAAHA SO TRUE !

  • @Myaiga LOL, we chinese ppl have almost everything. ^_^

  • I like deng chao-pei dong lai

  • @zhongtiandao Me too! In my opinion, a very interesting character indeed... =)

  • check out the video i made (on my plain page) out of this extraordinary film :) i hope you guys would like it

  • 0:20 : I think they mean "hold up" not "uphold"

  • Good, but if you're looking forward to it's detective plot it might be a little disappointing, after all it's not all about detective, it's a new kind that try to mix detective story, martial art, and fantasy plot into one. But I think it's very good, if you're a big fan of martial art/ kung-fu movie then you must buy it. Cause this is probably a milestone of it's kind so far. The director is a really genius, many scenes, moves are just pleasant ,stunning to see, very creative.

  • Hej I wanna buy this movie on BluRay can someone tell me if this movie is worth it, I mean is it good, I'm not really big fan of Tsui Hark's movies, someone please answer. Thank You!!!!

  • kung-fu version of sherlock holmes only with more fire?:D

  • @bobbykens yes at least no whitewashing like those hollywood movies. now asian movies are on par with them

  • i have a question: how can a concubine become an Empress and where did Empress Wu learn all the essential knowledge to rule a kingdom? i was just wondering...

  • @presa1200 How about the skills to survive the brutal strife among hundreds of concubines. Ruling a kingdom doesn't need knowledge, check out leaders in our world.

  • @wintercocooo oic, so that's how she framed other concubines for the desire of power even she had to kill her own daughter as well? that's sad

  • @presa1200 That was basically her conclusion, not something learned from others. Plus Empress Wu was a real person in history, and please read some history before comment.

  • @manchumuq yes i know Empress Wu existed during the Tang Dynasty and i was talking about the real person in history, not based on this movie. yeah i did read some history before comment so i don't think i said something wrong in this case.

  • @presa1200 well, maybe because she's accompanying with the emperor for too long, that sometimes the emperor will talk about the issue that happened in the kingdom, and she was very smart to learn it. You know cause the old emperor in China could have like 3,000 girls, and only one of them could become the queen, so they must cheat on or frame each other to win the game, it's just like a strict political game of female version. So the queen who win this was always good at policy and very smart.

  • @germing yeah like the old saying "survival of the fittest", i guess it same applies to politics. Carina Lau really suits this character. i noticed you're from taiwan can you understand Cantonese as well?

  • @presa1200 and indeed, she was really good at ruling the kingdom, on the history book said the Tang dynasty was even more richer under her ruling. What a genius.

  • @germing indeed, that's why i hate it when people say women can't rule. who gave birth to them and brought them up as a child? of course i don't refer to all women but some of them really have exceptional intelligence.

  • @germing i have a question, was Justice Bao an officer from the Tang dynasty as well?

  • @presa1200 well, I can't speak Cantonese, but I think it's not hard if I stayed in Hong Kong for more than 1 year and practice it. And Justice Bao was not an officer from Tang dynasty, he was in Song dynasty which was right after the Tang dynasty. But the Tang Dynasty was much more prosperous than Song dynasty. That the Japanese, Korean began to send people to China to learn Chinese culture and words. You can see the Japanese geisha has the same style of make up as this female emperor.

  • @germing it's amazing, they really spent time in historical costume studies before making the movie. oic, i didn't know that because i thought Justice Bao's official costume bears a resemblance to Tang dynasty. but when i looked carefully into it, there are differences between the both.

  • @presa1200 oops, I forgot that the Korea was a part of Tang dynasty...(But the Korean don't like people to refer this that they were part of China) Tang dynasty marked a time which many races in Asia began to mix up together for the first time, especially people from the central Asia and north Asia( including part of the Russia). They began to mix into the Chinese and learn the Chinese culture.

  • @germing China used to be one of the civilized nation in history that's why it caught the attention of many western powers. the silk road alone speaks volumes about global trading between China and middle eastern countries. China also used to send some prominent admirals to the South east asia (the malay archipelago) for diplomacy purposes. yes you're right, i don't think Korean and Japanese would call themselves as Chinese but definitely they were originated from the mainland.

  • @presa1200 oops, = =" I think they were a Seignior country(Is this a right word?Means they had to give something to China) to Qing dynasty. Not directly part of Tang Dynasty. Anyway, their language still contained lot of part from Chinese. Are you a Korean? I think my words might irritate some... = ="

  • @germing no not at all LOL. i'm a Chinese from Malaysia. historical movies like this are one of my favorite

  • @presa1200 hm... That's right. According to the news, they made 5,000 costumes in this movie. Have you watched it? It's good, probably a milestone of it's kind( kung-fu movie/ martial art movies) imao... Oh I gotta go, I have course to take. See you next time, if you have questions you can keep replying, but I have to reply at the night, anyway, good bye~

  • @germing yeah as usual, big budget productions like this one can't really skip the most crucial part in film making. sometimes i prefer Asian made movies because there's no whitewashing like those in hollywoods movies. yes see u next time and take care.

  • I love this movie. really exciting

  • Han for the win :)

  • *people tell you to

  • Dont you hate when people you to watch anime and foreign movies in their original language with subs rather then going with dubbed ones.

Make me wanna smack their faces and yell "Fook off, i dont like to read sub and i certainly dont like you"

or is it just me =o/

  • @billon86 Wow. Such anger XD It'd probably be best that you don't tell them that. I mean, if you're never going to watch a foreign movie with those people, no need to make a big fuss about it, right? I mean, it's your preference and your freedom, so I don't understand why people need to debate about it.

  • i so love this movie, coz i found donglai, he is so handsome and adorable!

  • @MsClaireAN Me too! :D I immediatly took a liking to him despite his tempremental behavior...And I liked how there didn't seem to be any discrimination (that we saw) about him being really pale and having white hair. And he's captain of the guards so I figure he's respected :) But I got super sad when...well, you know towards the end. I don't want to spoil it for people :P

  • @Sanriko you're right. I was sad as well, to the extent that i almost didn't want to watch the end part. however, that was his role. he was really fascinating though.

  • Good movie, Hark can still do it. Great cast, great action sequences from Sammo, wise use of the cgi.

  • there's a character called "Donkey Wang" in this film.

  • @matenzo lol he's serious about this guys. There really is a character named that. I lol'd at this when i saw the movie.

  • @matenzo Donkey wang or donkey kong lol.

  • so sad

  • Now preorder DVD & Blu-ray with english subtitle from SensAsian, Use Google search SensAsian

  • what a let down. too heavy on CG

  • is this movie with english dubbing !!! available

  • @uuuoii123

I hope not. cant you read? original is always original. Cant understand why people want to see movies dubbed. Thats stupid.

  • @TheMrPcp

so they could understand better !

  • @TheMrPcp I agree 100%

  • @TheMrPcp because some companies don't properly translate the languages.

  • @TheMrPcp

your the one who is dumb people who want to see them dubbed have trouble reading the subtitles and cannot understand the language and what is wrong with dubbing anyway you can always watch in the original language if you want its an option multiple sound tracks are great.

  • @TheMrPcp Not really. I love to watch a movie subbed but there are times when I don't feel like watching a movie not in my original tongue. And so I watch it dubbed.

Besides, I use dubbed version to user people into likeing foreign movies. Its not supid

  • @TheMrPcp Is it so stupid to want to just watch a movie, WITHOUT having to look at the bottom of the screen the entire time, thus missing damn near most of the movie? I think not....

  • @TheMrPcp Whats not to understand? People don't want to spend the entire Movie reading instead of watching! If we wanted to read then we would read a book. We watch movies cause we want to WATCH a MOVIE not Read a Movie...

  • This is one of the best movies hong kong can ever produce, dont download this watch it at the cinemas while you can!

  • @mastersenk this is the worse hk movie ever

  • @majii12345
