This fellow clearly knows what he is doing, but the comparison between the straight 8th notes, the "almost straight" 8th notes and the swung 8th notes played on the hi-hat is not valid as he maintains the same tempo for the first two and then slows the tempo down radically when playing the swung beat, making it impossible to understand the difference strictly through this description. My advice? Learn to read notation if you do not already know how.

Hmm...although the 3rd beat in the groove is emphasized with raggae, the defining characteristic that separates a blues shuffle from raggae is there should be no bass drum down beat - rather it's played on the "&" of beat 1. Everything else is built around that structure. Any expert would know this.

e bredda. i am not even a drummer nor have i ever been to drumm lessons bevore. to really show reggae drumming, first get another hi hat. its important that you feel the music. try for an exaple to hit the hi hat more in the middle and only with the tip of the drumstick. and for the rim shot, or rim click try to get different tones by moving your hands to different places on the snare
