@gaianfreak this video is to show that not only dogs can do tricks,but that cats can do dog tricks too.i hope you don't mean that cats are dumb or stupid because they're not.
That's a rather harsh judgment, especially when you don't know my relationship with Moriah. He was well-loved and cared for by the family...and will be missed.
About cat-dog intelligence, does size of the brain really contribute entirely to intelligent capability? Complexity is definantly important too. Also, Ive noticed that polydactylic cats seem to be quite smart. Or maybe this is just a stereotype.
physical size of brains isn't a reliable indicator of intelligence. An African Grey parrot has a much smaller brain in size than most dogs, yet is much more intelligent. Recent studies have shown that cats "think" differently than dogs. Much training success stems from the animal's desire to please--this desire is much greater in dogs than in cats. With cats not only do you have to teach them the behavior, but also convince them they want to do it
Actually, brain size can be a decent intelligence indicator, but only if you look at it as a percent of the body size & weight. I don't know any parrots the size of a dog... or vice versa. (^_^)
@jaredmt Erm, sorry to bust your bubble, but there are dogs out there bred just for hunting. Dogs are more intelligent, cats are more feral. Dogs have utility and make nice companions, while cats are only kept for companionship.
One of my cats has a dog like mind, because he plays fetch, isn't scared of water and he bashed his head on the wooden altar so hard that he saw black dots, and all he did was try to hit them with his paws.
Actually you can teach cats tricks - but they are really stubborn. One of our cats I taught to touch a door knob before I will open it for him. He just does it automatically now.
that is awesome... what do you mean dog brains?... like are you saying dogs are smart or stupid? I have a male cat from Alaska same color , if you shave him he will be 1/3 that size proving there not fat... just too much fur....
Dude, apparently you lack the brains... thus such a moronic comment. (for CAT Owner) I LOVE YOUR CAT! Mine (BABYKINS) just plays fetch 5%, and the rest is sleep and eat..Hahaha
IF you think the Balinese cat is awesome because of its brains, wait till you pet one! They're also extremely affectionate. Hell, mine won't leave me alone.
Stop treating that cat like an animal! It's degrading!! (Just kidding, he seems to be having fun, but it's oddly shocking to see cats behave that way).
If you've ever owned a cat, you know it's not that simple. They have tones of voice, facial expressions, moods and attitudes. It's hard to think they're just like other animals. Research has shown their brains are similar to human brains, whereas dog brains are NOT.
my cat stands up with no help (food) the other day he stand and did the captain morgen salute. plus he has a very good memory plus he lay's like a dead frog belly up.
I loved your video! Smart cat! My cat says, "Mama" if you want to take a look. I also have other videos of her with my son. She wakes him up every morning and has learned some commands.
Hello: What type of cat do you have?? I will be adopting a longhaired sealpoint siamese mix this week? Aren't Balinese and Longhaired Siamese almost the same looking?? thanks. Debra
I've heard of circus animals (such as elephants) being severly mistreated while training, but you can't conclude that cats aren't as easily trained as dogs, any trained cat *must* have suffered. I've never heard anything about cat training remotely implying that.
That is so awesome!!!! My mother said cats were too stupid and couldn't learn tricks like dogs, she's the stupid one, cause your cat obviously understands the commands. Love your cat, he's very cute. <3
Arthur Jones, the multi-millionaire inventor of Nautilus weight training equipment, is a someone who has dealt with a variety of animals all his life. In fact he produced and hosted a TV show called "Wild Cargo". Mr. Jones often said, "The average house cat is ten times as smart as the average dog." And... you don't argue with Mr. Jones!

Kewl D:!!
XxCerebratexX 3 years ago 2
dogs arent proven to be smarter. they are just more interested in human commands where as cats are more interested in killing anything that moves
watching a mouse get hunted down is way more fun than watching a dog do tricks like shaking hands IMO

@buzzhawk Sorry to buRst your bubble......cats are more intelligent if not equally.
Check out what cats can do by watching these videos:
1) Bianca: the cat who uses towel to dry her face;
2) Nora the piano cat;
3) Maru the box-sliding cat;
4) Gizmo the cat who flushes toilet;
.......

@xingsheng1 Dogs can do the same, it's just that there aren't as many vids to show it. Cats are way more popular, that's all.
