About cat-dog intelligence, does size of the brain really contribute entirely to intelligent capability? Complexity is definantly important too. Also, Ive noticed that polydactylic cats seem to be quite smart. Or maybe this is just a stereotype.

With cats not only do you have to teach them the behavior, but also convince them they want to do it

Actually, brain size can be a decent intelligence indicator, but only if you look at it as a percent of the body size & weight. I don't know any parrots the size of a dog... or vice versa. (^_^)

dogs arent proven to be smarter. they are just more interested in human commands where as cats are more interested in killing anything that moves

watching a mouse get hunted down is way more fun than watching a dog do tricks like shaking hands IMO

@jaredmt Erm, sorry to bust your bubble, but there are dogs out there bred just for hunting. Dogs are more intelligent, cats are more feral. Dogs have utility and make nice companions, while cats are only kept for companionship.

Actually you can teach cats tricks - but they are really stubborn. One of our cats I taught to touch a door knob before I will open it for him. He just does it automatically now.

I've heard of circus animals (such as elephants) being severly mistreated while training, but you can't conclude that cats aren't as easily trained as dogs, any trained cat *must* have suffered. I've never heard anything about cat training remotely implying that.
