I already have an iPad and have this app, but should I get this camera? When I went skiing I saw lots of people wearing theses on there heads! So anyway, should I get this?
@ThaReaIFake The GoPro is a great camera for action sports and underwater shots, The camera case is durable, and lots of different mounting brackets are available so you can attach it to just about anything. If you're doing drama or comedy and want good audio and the ability to zoom in and out, you would be better off with a traditional video camera. I use both, with the GoPro being used for motorcycle and water shots.
@PelhamBoys I haven't tried it, but people have told me it does, but you need to be sure the phone is running the most current version of the iPhone operating system.
you make great videos, very informative. i have a few questions does i movie have the ability to do slow motion affect and, does this need to be done on an ipad2? will it work on an ipad1?
@hoohoohoblin, I take my hat off to you. It's people like you that make the world rock. I'm going to buy the adapter today. This will be great for when my mates and I are camping and dirt biking. Great work, much appreciated.
@Nareik68 You're welcome! Whenever I learn to do something new or buy a new gadget, I like to put it on my channel for other people to find. I'm glad this video is getting some views. I don't think many people would think that of importing and editing video on the iPad, but it's a great simple portable movie studio, especially if you're on the road and traveling light.
Thanks for your vids. I've used a couple. But I've imported my vids through Itunes. I used MP4 and they aren't showing up in Imovie. They play on the ipad though
@TheHuff109 Make sure you've updated your iPad to the most current version of iOS5 and also be sure that you have the most updated version of iMovie. After I updated to iOS5 I couldn't edit the video in iMovie, and then the next day Apple came out with an update for iMovie that fixed the problem, and I could edit video after that.
@FatRatPr0duction Someone who commented on this video says that you can do it on the iPhone 4 if it has been updated to iOS5 or later. I haven't tried it, but he says it works.
Hey, I have a question. If I import the videos that I shot on my external hard drive can a then connect it via usb to my ipad and then edit it? Or do I have to leave it on the card?
@tristancking You may be able to put the videos into a computer, and then sync your iPad with it to put the video onto the iPad for editing. I haven't tried that yet, so I'm not sure it will work.
I think it's a great app but it's annoying how you can't add visual effect like black and white, sepia, slow down and speed up etc! Do you know of any apps that can add these effects or am I just going to have to export the video and add those effects on a laptop?
@elliexmclean I don't know of any other video editing apps with more features. I looked around the app store but didn't find much. I expect someone will come out with something better soon. Maybe Apple will release a more complex version of iMovie, but I haven't heard any rumors about it.
Thanks for the great video. I can confirm that this works well with both the GoPro Hero 2 & the iphone 4. Just make sure both devices are iOS5 or later. It's a lot easier to edit the videos using iMovie rather than on my Windows Vista laptop. I don't believe that space is an issue either as I will offload my videos onto my external hard drive & delete them off my ipad when I'm done editing. Thanks again, you've made my video editing life much easier!
does it only work if you import using the adapter? i tried importing using the imovie through the app setting on itunes and it doesnt show up when i go to add video in imovie. it shows pics and audio, but the video box is blank, as in i have no options to choose from. please advise...this is all i want to do. so much video, and i may actually edit it using this :)
Just like to say a big thank you for making my Christmas. My wife bought me a go pro 2 , an awesome bit of kit but I was truly disappointed that it wouldn't play on my I pad 2, so after finding this clip I imedieatly downloaded the new software on my pad and I can now play 1080p direct to the pad, an awesome combination. Thank you again!
@BMXRACER1001 I looked around on the Internet in the Apple support forums and found someone who tried plugging the SD card reader into an iPhone 4, and it gave him a message: "This accessory is not supported by iPhone." There is an iMovie App that works on the iPhone 4, so you could shoot video with the phone and edit it with iMovie on the phone.
@hoohoohoblin ya i know but i have a GoPro HD Hero 2 and i just wanted to be able to add my music from itunes onto my youtube videos. Thanks anyway though nice video.
@hoohoohoblin Yes, I just picked the camera accessory up & I can confirm that it works well with the iphone 4 & the GoPro Hero 2. Just use the SD card attachment with the GoPro Hero 2 & use the USB adapter with the iphone 4. Just be aware that the Apple devices need to be updated to iOS 5 or later. Also, I noticed that the connectors can be a bit fussy sometimes. Just make sure you don't have a case getting in your way & if you have a problem, just re-insert the adapter a few times firmly.
@Note2ybk I've only done videos a few minutes long. It should be fine with longer videos, but if you're shooting in HD, the iPad will run out of memory pretty fast. I really wish Apple would make an iPad with 200 GB of memory. If they can make a little tiny iPod with 160GB of space, they could definitely squeeze a lot more memory into an iPad.
@Pitchy143 I read a review at MacWorld where the reviewer tried running iMovie on the original iPad. He says it worked, but it got a little sluggish with more complicated editing. The iPad 2 has double the processing power and double the RAM of the original iPad. iMovie is only 5 bucks, so it would be a cheap experiment to see how it works for you.
@isee3birds You're welcome. I didn't know about the converter either, but I went to the store to buy a GoPro and look at an iPad, and the Apple sales lady showed me the SD and USB converter set and sold me an iPad.
@DrenthMaurice I checked the Apple forums and it looks like there's no slow motion on the iPad version of iMovie. It's really basic. It's great for putting clips together and adding titles, sound effects and music, but it doesn't do anything fancy. I'm surprised it can't do slow motion.
@skateorsnow911 It was in 720p. My GoPro shoots in 720p, and I haven't tried 1080p on the iPad, but if you scroll down the comments on this video, there is a guy who says he has done 1080p in iMovie on the iPad, and it works great.
Thanks for posting this. As a GoPro + iPad video noob, I found it helpful. It's worth noting to make sure that Location Services are turned on for iMovie, or the app won't read the videos in your library. To enable Location Services, go to the home screen / Settings (gear icon) / Location Services / make sure iMovie is set to "ON"
Thanks so much for sharing this info. I just got a GoPro HERO2 vidcam and was on the fence about getting an iPad2 because I was unsure file transfers between the two were possible. Info on your video showed me IT WAS so... I bought the iPad2 without worrys. I tried it and you were correct! File transfers (both HD 720p and 1080p files) to the iPad2 (running iOS5) were flawless and readily useable for editing with iMovie. Thanks again.
@LinoSacman You're welcome. I'm glad I could help. People just assume the iPad has no USB or SD card slots, so you can't import video into it, so I wanted to show how to do it.
Thank you so much for this video. It sealed the deal for me on my iPad. The gopro is not the easiest format to edit with. This will work great for me. Thanks again. Charlie
@KayakSolitude It may have to do with the video file you are starting out with. The GoPro video is 720p hd in MP4 format. I'm not sure how the iPad does with other video formats. The video we shoot with the built-in iPad camera also looks really good when we edit it with iMovie.
@larrythelookout Thanks, Larry! The iPad works well for making movies and doing animation. My son loves it. I thought I bought it for myself, but I don't get to use it much because he's having so much fun with it.
@davidhowellca Awesome! It works really well once you update to iOS5. I'm shooting 720p HD in MP4 format. It's great for people traveling light, like on a motorcycle, who want to post videos on the road. Check out my other video to see how my son uses the iPad to do Lego animation using a 99-cent app and iMovie. It's great for that as well, and it keeps your kid busy for hours.
