Often times, being quiet can make someone seem "arrogant." I was very quiet in college, and often received the same perception of being arrogant. I just didn't talk much and only slept two hours a night, so I was tired most of the time. When people don't know you, they start manifesting all this nonsense about your identity. Writing is fun though, I minored in English. He should've stuck with Business Information Systems though, it's far more marketable.

Like others with Selective mutism I know what it's like to just exist in a room full of people and feel like a ghost. I spent 9 years of my school life in solitude, simply listening to the conversations happening around me. Truthfully it made me despise others who boasted about drugs. In hindsight, I found out that a lot of people I went to school with were actually afraid of me and thought that I was abused by my parents. To have SM is depressing beyond reason, so in a way I don't blame Cho.

That English teacher is terribly negative and discouraging. She was unusually intrusive with Cho, and in interview she admits she felt that Cho was 'arrogant' (Although I'm sure she was confusing arrogance for social anxiety, as is common). Ironically, if anyone comes on as being arrogant, it's her. But even the narrator here, goes as far as to call Cho, "Self Delusional". Apparently, because he took an optimistic shot at being a writer. It just shows you how negative people are.
