@aishas i kinda agree. sometimes i think its more lyrical and not just one relentless scale and arpeggio after another. still, i like both of them in different ways
Is piece alot more difficult than Saint-Saen's Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso? Because I am learning it right now and I want to learn this piece next.
@rapter9800 It really depends on your reaction to the music. I've played the Saint Saens and looked at this piece and completely freaked. The music really looked quite ridiculous so I ended up doing the Sarasate Carmen instead ^^ haha but I would say that yes, this is piece is by far wayy more difficult though you may find the difficulty much different than I. All of us violinists are different :)
Well practiced, no doubt, he can play and is utterly brilliant in technique and tone. But I like Sergey Khachatryan MUCH better in terms of musicality and passion, - and own style of interpreting the music. Here after all it still is a brilliant show of of skills, but with Khachatryan it becoms vital music making.

I don't like, sorry.
For technique, he is so much more secure and precise than Ray, and sound, much fatter. But what Ray has, is his special charm. No one else in this competition has. He is not only playing violin but also touching everyone, including himself. This guy, Ilian, has kind of good sound, but lacks of variety of color. He can not have this through practising, it is talent.
He sounds great in this video, but it was incredible live! The first round and the semifinal are always done in the Auditorium of the Brussels Conservatorium and you can feel the tension on the air! Great performance!!!
The seguedilla section of the Fantasy had--after the opening phrases--a little hint of that dangerously flirtatious Carmen we all know from the opera, but all too often these days I feel that, instead of the music on the stand, every solo violinist is actually playing the 1812 Overture in his or her head. Andy Roddick, anybody?
The violin and its literature are so much richer...
I love everything about this guy's playing. From his tone and approach to the the weird little faces he makes and wild deportment, I am completely convinced.

He deserved to win this competition. I can't understand, for the life of me, why ray chen won. But, then that's politics.

@jason101other i thought the same, ......but i dun get the 'politics'......i mean, why is ray chen more politically correct?
