When this camera was first launched and a video camera was a new technology, my dad was among the first people to get and it cost $1104.82 and now it only costs $198.87!!
i use to have the same video camera but it was a model down from the one you were just showing. It also required a docking station if thats the real name im not sure, but i found that the docking station was pointless for them to add to the sony video camera, because theres less mucking around with it if the ports are already in the camera!
but now ive got a new handy cam sony DCR-DVD610 which doesnt require one and is much much easier!
i have a DCR-SR200... it's the exact same as you execpt i have 40 Gb of hard drive space ans my lense cap opens automaticly :O and some butons aren't at the sameplace
hi JeffBT - how do you recommend I get Windows Movie Maker to work? I have the Sony hard disc Handycam camcorder DCR-SR55. Windows Movie Maker won't allow me to import video clips, it says 'the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer'.
i have this camera its really nice but im having trouble uploading my videos from this camera to my labtop it works on my mom labtop but when i upload it the videos are unknown but on my moms labtop the videos work fine please help
nice, i asked my parents for that camera for Christmas. and yes it is worth it, my freind has one and his videos are awesome quality, but he dosnt have internet so he cant upload them.
slightly different, just picked one up. The only thing is if you want to edit your vids, because it records in mpeg 2 you have to convert to avi or something for windows moviemaker
how do you make those boxes on vids wich says where the video is from/owner :P i want to write like PlaystationXboxer on all my new vids :P please help!
I have this camera and have done a bunch of music video stuff with it. I use 'Vegas Movie Studio' for the editing software, but I used virtualdub once too. It's great. What he didn't say about it was that the internal mic's are really pretty good quality and they are stereo mic's. It records in stereo.
What format are the files in once uploaded to the computer? What programs can be used for editing? Will I need to join movie and sound files..like the Enviro I have now...will I have to convert the files in order to upload anywhere.
I hate camcorder reviews. They almost never put footage taken with the camera in the review, which would be helpful alongside their "hey, I'm trying to sound like a news anchor" voice.
i'm most probably buying this camcorder very soon...
but i have 2 questions, 1 is that i read a review saying it only shoots in a widescreen pan mode... is this true or does that person just not know how to change recording modes? haha
and also just a little thing i've noticed, is that i've see what looks like two different images of this camera. theres one that looks like yours, and then theres an image of it that has a kind of waved block shape on the side, whats going on there?
Does this camcorder have a viewfinder? You know, the thing you look in like on a disposable camera. Because this camera would be perfect if it did, therefore I am using it for recording skateboarding action!
okay, looked it up. It's 1/6" sensor, which is relatively small. This is the area where the image is focused (ie, like a 16mm film vs. 8mm home movie camera), and all the pixels are crammed into this small focus space. Think my Sony HC96 has 1/3" and that's why I kept coming back to it. The physics/math of the tiny sensor to relationship of lens allows a cheap camera to have a large zoom optical lens. A bit misleading, but something to consider when you are looking for a camcorder.
you mean like when you import it in like Adobe Premiere Pro? i get that issue too. i end up importing it in Adobe Premiere Elements and export the audio.
The price ain't too bad for that camera. I really need to invest in a new camera. I'm currently using a Canon Elura 100 miniDV camera with a non-functional firewire port. The video quality is pretty good, but it sucks that I can't transfer videos via firewire.
I like the idea of that lens cover. I have a professional video camera and not only do I some times forget the lens cover, but it even falls off(a lot).
I also like the touch screen feature that's really nice. Good Vid.
