Thanks, ignore the stupid comments, its a really informative video - you tell us everything we need to know, with the emphasis in the right places - in 2 minutes!
(It would be great remade with better lighting, and voice added in afterwards).
I am growing a lemon tree from seed. Someone gave it me for trading tomato seeds from my garden fresh tomato I harvested. I'll have fresh lemons in 10 years.
Good vid kid! I watched your avocado vids...I have 3 trees now all over 2 feet tall took about 6 to 7 months...and I have a about 12 more seeds on the way!
Same here, I didn't go through all the trouble of cutting the seed, just put six seeds in a pot, put it on a bright window sill and it's growing like crazy.......but I read that it needs to be pollinated to grow the fruit, so you need to put it outside, or buy the pollinator and swipe it on the leaves for indoor use.........
i used my nails, no need to cut anything just carefully run your nail through the pointy tip of the seed and then peel, also i left the inner brow shell on, doesn't seem to make much difference in how fast the root forms
@MsRF111 you cut down the side, wherever you can get your knife in without damaging the inner part, then peel. you can also use your fingernails if u lt the seeds dry completely.
DONT DRY THE SEEDS, it will lower the viability substantially. all you need to do is peel the layer of skin like stuff off, and stick it in a damp, dark place for a few weeks. 2 or 3. i just bought random peat pellets, got those damp, stuck some peeled seeds in, and left it in a closed plastic container in my wardrobe untill it grows cotyledon leaves. then i move it to sunlight. no need to remove the brown part of the seed. but do not let it dry out, take it out of the fruit
@MsRF111 no need to cut it, just use your fingernails to remove the outer layer of the skin-type surface and plant in a damp medium in a dark place untill cotyledon leaves (the first 2) develop. then move to sun. dont move to sun before that or it wont develop a strong root system.
I have been trying to grow bush/rough lemon from seed and they are now 6yrs old. How do I tell if they still viable. And if still viable seeds should anything be done differently ?Due to the age of the seeds now ?
@Thehowtogrowguy - how do you provide a pollinator? Does this mean that lemon seeds all grow into female plants? How can you tell male from female plants? I'm real garden challenged....

To put the whole cutting to rest, if the outer and inner shell are removed it would germinate quicker.
Its really a question of preference and how good you are with a knife.
