Kelly, I never got to meet you, but I miss you a lot. You'd been dead for years when I was born. Fortunately, your songs were alive, as they still are, like in this wonderful video.
I think that might just be my favourite photo of Luke Kelly. I'd love to know what he's thinking ! The song is fantastic too. The best singer i ever heard.
thats the only album I have of the origional dubliners kelly will u post the names of a few albums with luke in them please. That would be very much appreciated.
cheers kelly its great that you keep such a talent alive for people who have never heard his music. what a legacy the man has left. folk will enjoy his music for years to come
The Dubliners Irelands Prodigal sons,The Dubliners irish Rover,The Dubliners 20 Original Greatest Hits vol 2, the Dubliners The Masters,The Dubliners Special Collection, The Dubliners Live At The royal Albert Hall,The Dubliners Their Greatest Hits, .....
The classic Dubliners line-up of Ciaran, Barney, Ronnie, Luke and John made some great lps together. I managed to get them all on vinyl via ebay for next to nothing. My personal recommendations are 'Finnegan's Wake', 'More of the Hard Stuff', 'Live at the Albert Hall' and 'At Home With the Dubliners'. You can't really go wrong though, they're all awesome.
yes i know that now lol i sent that comment when i honestly did not know a thing about irish music and i thought luke and the dubliners were two different acts! lol nah nah luke kellys the best irish singer ever
Thats a fair point, but I think other band members such as barney, john sheehan and ronnie drew were all equally as important in making the dubliners such a fantastic group.
Well done, thanks for sharing this, a good account of this song. I'm a Glaswegian and my family oddly enough were Calton weavers (and shoemakers) living in the Glasgow Calton who got themselves caught up in all that naughty revolutionary nonsense of 1820. ;-)
certainly so! goin to folk festival soon in west midlands, england (dnt no if u know it) cant wait maybe there wil b people there like luke ... but i doubt it
must agree! i always end up a litle disapointed wen they dont sound as strong as luke.. r there many interviews of with luke on the performer dvd? or is it just like a whole concert with him in? went to O'Donoghues last year on my 18th .. was amazing!
Theres a little talking before each song (from diff people) on the performer, deffo worth buying though,(plz god a performer 2 will be released) havnt actually been to O'Donoghues yet, did ya visit lukes grave?
no i must say i didnt.. i hav seen pistures of it though. i would be so sad to visit it. my boyfreind isnt realy into his music but we've agreed our first kid wil b called luke if a boy! have you visited it?
I confess I don't get the profound meaning of this song... Can someone explain me what's it about?
Chomuno 4 months ago
@Chomuno From what I can tell..... Nancy somehow managed to trick him into spending his money....
Or something...
I'm still trying to figure it out exactly, but something along those liens I think.
