All day today at work I was browsing the web for a MacBook Pro. I really, really want one. The only thing that is keeping me back is the 2012 line-up. I'm afraid that if I were to purchase one now (same 13" with SSD), the early 2012 models get announced, which would then result in the current models going down in price.
My 13 inch standard Macbook Pro gets a little noisy and hot when im playing HD videos on youtube. What can i do to fix that? Should i get an SSD, but i dont want to give up space, or upgrade the ram, which is at the standard 4GB?
@TheApplefan4life nothing man, that has nothing to do with hard drive, or ram. it's your graphics processor fans. that happens to me on ichat in full screen, and happens to everyone else as well. you're okay haha but there's no way to avoid it.
I'm confused. So if I choose the 128GB SSD over the standard choice of 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm, I know SSD is totally better but then are you saying that my total Mac storage in the computer will be 128GB?
Can't wait to see what the 2012 models look like. Maybe stock 256gb SSDs, core i7 processors, and maybe if we're lucky, they'll bring back the old nvidia graphics cards, or at least better radeons. Wouldn't mind paying $1400 for the baseline 13" if they had all that and still 5+ hours of battery life. They can even keep the 4gb Ram, I'll just upgrade that on my own! =P

this is damn fast! damn fast! I have a 2011 model mbp with 2.3g i7, i definitely want to buy a ssd, but its too expensive now, a 120GB ssd cost about 200$
I have to ask- you said "not as quick as the MacBook air"- why not? If it has an SSD along with a beefier processor, shouldn't it be a lot quicker? What puts the Air ahead if not an SSD?
Your videos are great. I kind of had my heart set on a 15" but I just can't afford it. Now I'm thinking the 13" isn't that bad after all. I was a bit worried about not having a dedicated graphics card but now I'm wondering if I would miss it. I wouldn't be doing much heavy video editing, just iMovie and light photo editing. I just wish there was a better screen, I mean more pixels. I couldn't afford a SSD right now buying it from Apple but I would want to do so in the future, a self upgrad
After getting a SSD for my desktop, I thought I couldn't use a HDD again. With that said, OSX isn't that slow with a normal HDD, but I'll buy a SSD as soon as possible. I hope I can live with 120gb though, 256gb are WAY too expensive(120gb went down a LOT)
Thanks for the video! :) Please could you do the Black Magic Disk Speed Test on the build to order 128gb SSD you get with this MacBook Pro so we can get an idea of their speed? Thanks :)
so is the macbook pro with ssd faster than the newer macbook air? and do you have any over heating problems when watching youtube videos or playing games? please respond, thanks(:
I dont know what to get im gonna use after effects / photoshop but not like everyday so should u get macbook pro or imac. I would like portable laptop but im wondering if it would be sluggish withoud ssd
I decided to get this and an external drive for storage.. Can you give us some techincal information as in write and read speeds vs this and stock apple 7200 rpm
idk i think id choose capacity over speed because 128 gb is just to damn SMALL...the 256 gb would be just perfect but its just to damn EXPENSIVE.....so id take a nice 320 gb hdd...
I won't be able to purchase a MBP till mid-late August, so should I just wait for the 2012 MBP? I will defiantly be purchasing an SSD and installing it myself.
@wuqqs86 Excellent, glad to hear it! The GPU is more than adequate for HD movies and even heavy-duty gameplay like COD4. The glass screen is very reflective and can be particularly annoying outdoors, but you learn how to tilt the screen at the right angle and its not a major issue. There is no 13" matte screen options from Apple, but you can buy third-party films for the glass.
please reply to me comment, sir. I really would like to know the exact model name of the SSD you have in the video. Please reply.... It would help me to buy the same model without any confusion. Hope you would reply this time.
@DRPHILIPJOHN Apple doesn't tell you what the SSD they are putting in each model so I can't grantee that's exactly what they have in there unless somebody cracks it open and identifies it.
Am I correct in thinking that the SSD will help performance in cases where the RAM is full, as it will begin to store some of that information on the hard drive? Or have I misunderstood?
Hey Detroit, I'm looking to buy my first Mac. I'm planing to get a 13" Macbook Pro. I plan on getting it with a SSD, but how much faster would it boot with the i7?

I would like to run photoshop on it, but that would probably be the most intensive program that I'd run more or less.
I've noticed that the i5 and i7 dont show much difference in the early benchmarks, thoughts on why its worth going w the i7? The differences in all the tests seem purely negligible.
@saberous33 I don't think you need that much RAM on the 13" Pro, you can make better use of that RAM in more powerful systems. You can always upgrade that pretty easily later if you wish. Photoshop is not a demand app, you don't need that much RAM. The differences are fairly incremental fro i5 to i7, but certain apps can use that power more effectively, and the better GPUs will also make a big difference in gaming.
@DetroitBORG Thanks for the response! I'd certainly rather go w the 15 as portability isn't exactly paramount for me (more of just an aesthetic thing) since the 15 has the quad core and the option for high res, and discreet graphics. It's just that I can't really afford the leap in price right now. It's basically $1449 13" (w ssd) or $1999 15" (w 500gb 7200 and high res) - can't really do the xtra 550 (plus tax) :( ... im sure i'd be happy w the 13 tho! i really want an ssd
@MegaHowtotutorials For me the SSD makes a bigger impact for day to day use, but the bigger CPU is better for heavy duty processing like video rendering. I don't need the large disc drive that comes with the i7 either, you might!
Does the MacBook pro with the ssd get hot? I am thinking of buying a MacBook air for my photography but am now thinking of new MacBook pro 13 with ssd instead. Any in site would be very helpful
@kpeshin1 It still has a dedicated graphics processor, but it's better integrated with the CPU so although the GPU is weaker than the 320M, it's about as powerful.
@Avelarius11 They will come down eventually. If you really want, you can buy the SSD later and upgrade yourself, pretty easily done, lots of YouTube videos on it.
You can enter a couple of commands in terminal to perminently set your MBP for an instant ("unsafe") sleep. Sleep will be instant, and you'll save 4GB of ram in your case.
I love it :) I can't wait to get mine next month. By any chance is it better to use Microsoft Office if you already have iWork? Will SSD work even faster if you have more GB?
There is always some latency. The light from the screen takes 8.33x10^-10 seconds to reach your eyes if there is minimum distance of distinct vision(25 cm) between your eyes and the screen. So you will only see the action on the screen 8.33e-10 seconds after it occurs. That latency cannot be eliminated by the fancy fruit company too :p
Apple uses Toshiba SSD. As far as I know, Apple silently upgraded their SSDs, same from Toshiba but with different model number in 2009, increased the read/write speed from 170/75MB/s to 240/200MB/s. The current SSDs used in new MBP 2011 actually starts to be used in MBP late 2009. Apple has NOT changed the model, still THNS128GG8BBAA as the model number.
@bronze5420 Yes the current 2011 MBP have a read/write speed of 240/200mb/s using Apple's stock SSD. And the link speed in my new macbook pro i7 2.2 shows 6GB/s, which means it is ALREADY SATA III. This means, if I buy the soon released OCZ Vertex 3 Pro, full read/write speed of 550/500 MB/s can be achieved in the new MBP. By the time, application will be opened before you click it! :)))
Hey, great video first of all!
How do you manage to put all of those apps and files on just 128gb of storage?
Do you make movies and other projects on external hard drives?

It's basically $1449 13" (w ssd) or $1999 15" (w 500gb 7200 and high res) - can't really do the xtra 550 (plus tax) :( ... im sure i'd be happy w the 13 tho! i really want an ssd

@MegaHowtotutorials Get the i7, you'll love it just the same and you get a great CPU.
DetroitBORG 11 months ago
@MegaHowtotutorials For me the SSD makes a bigger impact for day to day use, but the bigger CPU is better for heavy duty processing like video rendering. I don't need the large disc drive that comes with the i7 either, you might!

Also your very smart wise man for getting a Mac, I need a Mac mini so bad

Does the MacBook pro with the ssd get hot? I am thinking of buying a MacBook air for my photography but am now thinking of new MacBook pro 13 with ssd instead. Any in site would be very helpful
Quinihio 11 months ago
@Quinihio The MacBook Pro can heat up under load, usually Flash will do it, or rendering a large HD video.

Hi, I want to ask you whether you suspect overheating issues with your MacBook Pro 13" 2011?
24crossman24 11 months ago
@24crossman24 No problems, most of the time I have a hard time getting it to that level of stress.

Does the removal of the graphic card effect gaming purposes? Like COD4 does it play well on the MacBook pro?
kpeshin1 11 months ago
@kpeshin1 It still has a dedicated graphics processor, but it's better integrated with the CPU so although the GPU is weaker than the 320M, it's about as powerful.

I would take the upgrade if i wouldn't think the prices for SSD are to high :D
Avelarius11 11 months ago
@Avelarius11 They will come down eventually. If you really want, you can buy the SSD later and upgrade yourself, pretty easily done, lots of YouTube videos on it.
DetroitBORG 11 months ago
Is the customized SSD on your new MacBook Pro as same as offered in MacBook air late 2010?
alan170892 11 months ago
@alan170892 No, they are very different SSDs.

I like how u show us everything best video ever
Btw how do u make ur MacBook load sooooo damn quick
aznyook1 11 months ago
@aznyook1 I didn't do anything, that's the SSD.
DetroitBORG 11 months ago
Forty five seconds or so for a complete restart.
You can enter a couple of commands in terminal to perminently set your MBP for an instant ("unsafe") sleep. Sleep will be instant, and you'll save 4GB of ram in your case.

How much did this cost?
Technoboy7779 11 months ago
@Technoboy7779 About $1,500

I love it :) I can't wait to get mine next month. By any chance is it better to use Microsoft Office if you already have iWork? Will SSD work even faster if you have more GB?
Thank you.
CasualLuxuries 11 months ago
@CasualLuxuries the amount of gb do not change the performance.
JonatanLovhaug 11 months ago
@CasualLuxuries The size of the SSD won't effect performance. I like iWork better except for Numbers, Excel is simply an amazing piece of software.

There is always some latency. The light from the screen takes 8.33x10^-10 seconds to reach your eyes if there is minimum distance of distinct vision(25 cm) between your eyes and the screen. So you will only see the action on the screen 8.33e-10 seconds after it occurs. That latency cannot be eliminated by the fancy fruit company too :p

do you know the manufacturer of the apple ssd's?
bronze5420 1 year ago
@bronze5420
GizmoCasper 11 months ago
@GizmoCasper wait, so the current 2011 MBP have a read/write speed of 240/200mb/s? and idea as to when apple will start using sata 3 ssd?
bronze5420 11 months ago
@bronze5420 Yes the current 2011 MBP have a read/write speed of 240/200mb/s using Apple's stock SSD. And the link speed in my new macbook pro i7 2.2 shows 6GB/s, which means it is ALREADY SATA III. This means, if I buy the soon released OCZ Vertex 3 Pro, full read/write speed of 550/500 MB/s can be achieved in the new MBP. By the time, application will be opened before you click it! :)))
