@sahueso666 yes, the best, the verry verry best!.......bigger better..............MORE MORE MORE .........."he's better than him".......tribal ritual/spirituality.money, talent greed..........false......listen to the birds sing.........free jazz.
After listening to this, I see that for many, past and present, that it's / it was, more important to sound different than to sound good. Self-indulgent cacophonous nonsense. I appreciate that Zappa was trying to experiment and go to "new" places, but for him to have received the accolades he has to date, is simply absurd. The truly-gifted George Duke and Ian Underwood finally wised-up and found their proper channels after this silliness chapter in their musical lives.
There was something raw and charismatic about this first Mothers of Invention that later versions didn't have though the music later may have been more mature.
@Mikdeelo Good idea. Have soft like Acid 4.0, record live from YT or download this tune (appears on Ahead of Their Times album), cut it, do some EQ, save as mp3 and put in your cell.
"There isn’t anything weird about my music. Weird is a skeleton in the closet, wearing a rubber mask with warts all over its nose, and all that kind of shit. That’s not what I do. The thing that makes my music unusual is that people only hear one kind of music all the time over the radio. It’s wallpaper to their lives. Audile wallpaper. There’s one acceptable beat and there are three acceptable chord progressions. There are five acceptable words: baby, love, tears, yat yat."
why can't more people understand the audio is just as, if not more important than the video? if i had something to show, i would definitely want it to be enjoyable, not just out there. for those of you on youtube who have something to show us, please take the time and would make it worth uploading! thank u TooleMan87 for such contribution! it beats wasting time shoveling through shit. =)
@pedalla I always thought hippies were a little more politically driven than that. You paint a worse picture of them than I do. Sorry no faces for you.
First time I heard Mothers of invention I was like "whats going on here" I was surprised, I mean, before that I heard music I could not understand quite well, but these new sounds they just pierced into my mind in such a deep and frightening way... after hearing their music again, I reallized I was standing in front of a gigantic, well thought, complicated and masterfull work of art... I still can't listen to their music withouth feeling a chill running through my body
@ZeppelinRules There may be someone or two out there and perhaps they will show up on Youtube....BUT No one will string notes, beats and pauses together like FZ. It was and is no more.
Make no mistake...what you hear here and in any FZ performance is FRANK. He made good and brilliant musicians better.
Zappa's die-hard, hardcore, loyal followers are definitely a very tight circle amongst themselves. I totally missed the boat when it comes to Zappa. His compositions are definitely layered, complex, thought-out, schizophrenic, and as an artist, I give him props for his insanely genius creativity, but the art that he created, the music itself, does nothing for me in terms of "entertaining" me.
@TheGringoLoco I agree. They were something like Jethro Tull. The genius of the individual parts never came close to superceding the potential of the whole.
Mother Mary and Joseph!!! I didn't know this existed, and I've never heard it. I'm a fan since almost back this far, saw FZ three times in the mid seventies, but I love the King Kong era stuff. Pardon my ignorance, but does this piece have a name? I'm not going to get much else done today. I've already watched it three times.
Zappa was an incredibly arrogant self-absorbed genius who produced some of the most sophisticated music of his or any other time. To have seen him in concert (or in this live footage) is to see the workings of a highly disciplined composer/conductor/performer... One of a kind.
@1949frrichard I saw Zappa and I must say that it was the tightest most well-rehearsed show I have ever seen. Further the sound system was crisp and the lows were tight and not messy sounding. This was in the early 1980's and the sound system was better than anything you would hear in a pop or rock show today. He ran a VERY tight ship.
Esto no tiene precio!!!. Que solida era esta magnifica banda, liderada por el artista mas grande del siglo XX y de toda la historia, Frank Vincent Zappa. R.I.P.
@nepalnt21 At the beginning, it does sound like he very briefly wanders into part of the melody from the opening Promenade from Pictures at an Exhibition. It's so short I can't tell if it's a coincidence or an intention 'musical quote.'
The coolest thing about this band is that they will always be way ahead of their time. The Mothers came from another galaxy and crashed landed on Earth. I was born 3 years before Zappa's death and knowing that I lived while he was still alive is worth being thankful for, it's the closest I'll ever get to the man. Every day I read more about him, learn another song, and try to get into his mind. I've been taking on his personality and beliefs because of this.
@spacehopperballs No problem it's just this whole knocking other musicians on youtube(most of the time to get thumbs up) get's on my tits. Both the Beatles and Zappa had a huge influence on modern music. But to say the Beatles were a PR stunt is a bit far IMO, they were as radical as the Mothers in Britain the only difference is that through good management they got mainstream commercial success. Apologies for the rant. :)
@spacehopperballs you dont know a thing about the beatles, in your ignorance and closed mind you think they were a PR stunt... but thats what they look like when you think your taste in music is the only truth... so childish (what you stated is like saying zappa is just a crazy man making noise and trying to be weird)
So ladies 'n' gennelmen, at this point in our plot, the three talented members of the Mothers have quit the band to form their own group, with a lot of discipline.
What is really great about this video is all of the Bunk and Ian footage. As well as the 'Social Commentary' cues that Frank has Ray doing, as well as everyone else. Definate gem that exists in this universe thanks to TooleMan87 and YouTube!
The theme stated first at 3:01 is "Sleeping In a Jar" sped up from the album version. Zappa almost always performed his songs differently than they appeared on record
@themitchies That's a little harsh. First of all The Beatles released their first single in 1963, few years before Zappa was Zappa. I'm sure The Beatles had some influence on Zappa as well, he covered "I am the Walrus" and he also did a Beatles medley during a show if I remember correctly. He also played "I am the Walrus" during his BBC One Hour radio guest host appearance.
I don't think enough credit can go towards Zappa, Beatles, and Pink Floyd.
