This song may not correspond only to gay people but to anyone having problems at home. When I was a child my dad used to be an alcoholic who beat my mom and people knew that we didn't have 'normal' lives. I used to get teased at school because I was an easy target to pick at. At home and school, I'd try my best to pretend everything was normal and eventually my mother and I had to run away from all this to lead normal lives.

1991 was a long time ago. the good fight that jimmy & friends fought is over. this is the 21st century where hopefully we have entered an era of acceptance... if you look to media (tv, movies, music, etc.) you will see evidence of this acceptance. the gay youth today are openly so in high school and to their families. the fight fought by those now in their 40s, 50s and 60s is coming to a close. change ur own mind and u will change the world.
