@quizpubbob That fool's name was "John Lennon". He wrote as a joke about shameless braggarts, but realized that he couldn't sing it himself without a buncha critics & fans missing the joke & accusing him of being a genuine egomaniac. As a RINGO song, though, it worked perfectly.
Written by John Lennon, plus George Harrison and John play Guitars on this, making it the closest the Beatles came to playing on the same song, No Paul.
Ringo, George and John all played on this track - the nearest thing there was to a Beatles reunion after 1970. In fact, there are bona fide tracks by "The Beatles" which have fewer Beatles playing on them! Yesterday, Within You Without You, Julia, The Ballad Of John And Yoko, to name but a few. And there are lots of Beatles tracks where one Beatle is missing - Dear Prudence, Back In The USSR, I Me Mine, Because, and many others.
When I was in the Air Force and a party animal, we all sat around stoned one night and starting talking about the one person we would like to party with.
I said "Ringo". They looked at me rather strangely at first but said "yeah".
..Is it me.. or does he look like Pete Townshend? From the The Who...

Everything just clicked together in the early '70's song wise for Ringo, and this one is a brilliant example.

In my view, 'I'm The Greatest' IS a Beatles song!

@GerryMATW Paul just smiled at them and gave each one of them the finger....lol
They didn't want him on the track. Believe it or not.
