its not laziness its wanting to use an application that is intuitive.
why mess about for hours doing something the hard way when you can get the same or better results the easy way. it's human nature we all want the easiest solution to any problem.
instead of meaningless icons (until you learn them)like max Lightwave has clickable buttons with the name of the tool in english so there's no mistaking what tool you are selecting. for that reason alone it is much easier to use.
lightwave does have a nack for crashing, but it has to do with its origins (amiga) and newteks reluctance to re-write the code from groung up. LW on the amiga was pretty much rock solid due to the amiga's true multi-tasking nature (unlike the windows)LW runs way better on x64 LW is amongst the first 3d apps available on personal computers. And was the best for many years. in fact, LW and 3ds (which was called Low-end) got soo good the High-end maya had to drop it price just to hold its status
It's called 'HD instance', it lets you clone an object (i.e. a soldier you've already made) at miminal memory cost. Sort of a cheap and dirty crowd simulator.
I am an intern architect and I am always interested in 3d. I tried maya, formz as modeling and rendering tools, not mention I use auto cad, revit and adt in daily basics but let me be honest after a long day in the offfice using all the software I mentioned to create constructions documents, it feels so good to open my mac and play around with lightwave, then my creative part really comes out of myself.
Actually Blender does have a game engine. Any of them will take time to learn and animate. Blender is free and extremely powerful once you learn to use it.
Of the three you mentioned there I would personally say Lightwave. Max is really quirky and Blender just doesn't sit well with me. You might want to consider Maya though. I feel it is superior to the three you mentioned. Modeling in Maya is awesome, and animation and physics and rendering (with pixar renderman) is fantastic.
There's nothing "tight" about it. Nearly all of the better animators Ive worked with are self taught. Talent is always welcome. William Vaughan has posted dozens of great LW tutorials online. Get the Learning Edition and teach yourself. Get a decent reel together you can find work or at least intern.
max is a DOG the interface is way too cumbersome....
by the time you find the tool you want in max among the menus within menus within menus brothers menus sister...... you've finished you model and rendered it in lighwave.
seriously, working with max or maya is like trying to access system menus in windows vista with all their "user friendly" interface, which in fact only takes longer. Classic view is always best. And that's why I choose lightwave.
Sounds great, I am just learning Lightwave. Did some stuff in MAX and Maya, but I never got comfortable with those programs. Still there isn't an end all be all 3D app, it's more personal taste and your requirements.
Then again, Lightwave is really really cheap in comparision with most complete 3D packages. And it's even more powerfull when used in tandem with Luxology's Modo.
And last but not least, the Amiga roots, I still remember a bit of the reviews of Lightwave in the Amiga magazines.

This mini-documentary would have been much more enjoyable if they had backed off on the music track about 10db! Very poorly mixed.

Lightwave vs. blender 3d vs. 3ds max vs. milkshape
which ones the easiest and fastest to learn, model, animate? also which ones have a game engine? i hate blender 3d and 3ds max and i know they dont.

Every good 3D prog is hard to learn when you learn out of your own...

Lightwave is an amazing software, and I thing is the Best.
Is easy to use, the modeling system is also easy and the animation is powerful than before.
The best thing I found in Lightwave is the Render, F9, FPrime and Kray.
The radiosity with these renders is fast and High Quality.
And the morph system is amazing.
I think Lightwave is the best thing for beginners and professionals.

Well there are too many fuckwads who think they can get into 3D graphics when they just suck ass and don't know it.

Keep at it. Create a demo reel and send it off to some production studios. You never know what you could get yourself into.

Yes, it's "tight" and a dog-eat-dog-world hell it is to be sure. However, discipline and dedication will get you everywhere. Focus. ;)

So true...also you learn lightwave 10 times faster.
Look out in this year...there will be the Lightwave Core revolution.
With the possibility to adapt to the most important production workflows in 3d sector.
