scott walker is a legend. so sad hes still now nearly a half century so unpopular for most people. this guy is on one level with bob dylan and the beatles or joy division. a real great musican an songwriter. im so glad I get into his music 2 years ago. as far as i know he's not gay, but i did read that he was in a long term relationship but doesn't want to get married or live with them as he needs his personal space, but they're life partners just not a husband/wife or whatever in a traditional sense

Engel's "MUSICAL GENIUS" is stranded in time; somewhere in a 1970 Bayswater loft. The pompous tedium of 'The Drift' may work "in a room full of tone deaf cretins" but devotees of his perfectly formed 60's masterworks may weep... or giggle.

The interview I referred to was a comment on his current lifestyle not what he was in his heyday. Then his womanising was well documented - even in his own lyrics. Also the director of his DVD documentary told the audience at its London premier that he had spoken to Scott's 'life partner'. Thats a very odd term if it is meant to refer to a female as it is usually reserved for people in same sex relationships. Hence the suggestion that he now prefers male friends.

Did a quick surf and didn't find any other evidence of "Scotran"(!) But I did find other stuff. All these years I had Scott Engel down as the very Nordic-looking son of US German immigrants; the sensitive pop poet who, while beautifully androgynous, had an eye for busty continental birds. Well, that's one possibility. Another is that he's a Jewish homosexual named Scotran! Mind you, that zither on "Boy Child" is VERY "Fiddler on the Roof"!

I have to admit that I'm rather more a fan of his bass guitar work with Emperor, especially on the vertiginously cheery "Night of the Graveyard Souls". That song in combination with my prescription donkey downers has often averted bloodshed. His solo work is far too disco for me but two of my good friends, Napoleon and Mohammed, who are permanent residents at my hospital, swear by his dulcet tones.
