That's a really good question rell127. To understand what's happening now (the problem(s)), and to attach a "cause" to it, is paramount to solving "the problem". I sincerly believe the focal point dates all the way back to Woodrow Wilson's era. In 1913, the Federal Reserve Act was passed creating our nation's 3rd central bank. In that same year, the 16th Amendment was passed (the Federal Income Tax). You can trace everything that's occurred up until now back to those two very significant events.

Both Thomas Jefferson & Andrew Jackson successfully eliminated the nation's first 2 central banks. They both recognized the extreme hazard of having a central bank - a private bank that literally controls the money supply of the nation. Since 1913, the dollar has lost most of its original value. It's worth about 4 cents now compared to its value in 1913. Up until 1971, the dollar's value was based on precious metals (gold, silver) & was exchangable for those metals.

In 1971, under mounting international pressure to drain our nation's gold supply and a desire to be able to throw off the spending constraints imposed on our government by a currency based on precious metals, the Bretton Woods agreement was reached (via the U.N) that transformed our money into a completely fiat money system ("funny money" not backed by anything). That proves to be another very critical event - another piece of the puzzle that helps to explain our current economic problems.

What Bretton Woods allowed the Federal Reserve Bank ("the Fed") and the federal gov't to do was to print money, at will, with NO CONSTRAINTS whatsoever. So, the government was allowed to borrow an inexhaustable supply of money from the Fed -- money created out of thin air -- and our Federal Income Taxes go solely to pay the interest to the private, for-profit central bank -- the Fed -- for the use of that "funny" money. So why is that important? Because it's basically a central banking scam.

You can think of Bretton Woods as the agreement that let the genie out of the bottle.

You'd spend your way into unparalleled luxury. You'd become a king. The sky's the limit. This is what's happened with the Federal Gov't.

We're currently sitting at about $10 trillion dollars in national debt (which doesn't include all the other long-term, future (increasing) debt obligations that the gov't has incurred such as Medicare and Social Security). What are the ramifications and result of having all of that debt [and it continues to increase exponentially with the Wall St. and bankster bailouts that we're seeing right now]? The result is INFLATION and DEVALUATION of the dollar. That produces a lower standard of living.

So, our nation is becoming impoverished. Our middle class is being diminished rapidly into the lower class. The disparity between the upper class and the lower and middle classes becomes greater and greater as more and more wealth is drained from the bottom of the pyramid up to the top of the pyramid to support all of this ever-increasing government largesse. Look at the stock market right now. It's a draining of wealth up to the top (the banksters and "Wall Streeters") - the people in POWER.

The government is spending way too much money and keeps increasing its size. We're seeing this especailly right now where Obama promises to "create" a couple of MILLION government jobs! Where is that money going to come from to fund it? You guessed it - the Federal Reserve Bank. But who's paying the interest on that HUGE new debt? Us.

Now, how does the private, for profit Federal Reserve Bank get its profits? From interest they receive from the Treasury to pay towards the national debt. How do the banksters actually get paid? Via the U.S. Treasury's Federal Income Tax (amongst a myriad of other excise taxes, tariffs, etc.). So, you might ask, won't they have to raise taxes to pay for this? Yes, they will, but they're going to do it covertly through INFLATION (the hidden "inflation tax") which decreases your purchasing power.

They're also going to do it by raising Income Taxes on individuals with incomes over $250,000 per year. Sounds good on its face right? But that's actually a tiny percentage of the total population and does even put a dent in reducing the outstanding debt obligaitons (the national debt). So who's to blame for all of this? It's BOTH parties. They're controlled by the same masters.

I double checked the math on various ideas like this on, and the energy that can be harvested from these sources is a tiny fraction of the immense quantity of energy we get from oil.

As to solar panels producing more energy than takes to make them, I'm not convinced. The data that proves this comes from the manufacturers and they don't share their methodology or their data. Independent studies show them at negative or barely break even.

We can argue about this, but if you really want to convince me, (I hope you can), then show me the math. I love math. Simply prove what you're telling me.

Your system was built using very cheap energy sources. If PV were used to provide the energy to make your PV, the cost would be significantly higher.

Some of the unrealized technologies in PV are really exciting. I hope it's possible to bring some of the cheaper alternatives into commercial production.

As to the oil industry, they'll barely exist in 30 years.
