Not taking away from Rickson's legecy, but, if he would have fought Wanderlai Silva, Ricardo Arona, or any of the Chute Boxe, Brazilian Top Team fighters at that time, he would have been smashed. How does "No Biting" and "No Eye Gouging" only benefit Grappler's? UFC just Showed that these Karate guys where a complete joke without Ground work, it was true when the UFC came out, and Its still true today.

The rules are all in favor of grapplers. When strikers actually start striking you end up with a gracie who doesn't know his own name. A fight is a fight calling something illegal is just an excuse.
The rules are there for a reason, if not Biting and Eye Gouging would also be acceptable. It's a lot harder to Defend against a move that is supposed to be Illegal then a move or technique that is allowed by the Rules.
Yeah, the rules are there, first and foremost to give grapplers the advantage. That was the whole intent behind UFC in the first place, to promote BJJ.
