  • Nice video, what song is playing from :59-1:24 please?

  • What song did you put at the beginning of this video?

  • You should really trim your fingernails before doing a demo video. If you don't care about yourself then it appears that you aren't serious about anything else you do therefore people might not take any interest. Just a tip. I mean if you can afford pc boards you van afford some fingernail clippers!!

  • fingernails are good for fiddly work.

  • @n8than00 You should really trim your sadistic nature. If you don't care about adding something positive to the conversation, then it appears you aren't serious about becoming a productive human being. Just a tip. I mean, if you can afford the time to criticize the fingernails, you can afford the time to learn some verbal restraint!!

  • it sounds terrible

  • sounds like a crazy drunk baby

  • i bought a few of these, i have piles of old capacitors, im working on throwing different ones in the mix and screwing around with it to make different noises... theyre fun, the first one i built wasnt in an altoids can at all, i used an old voltmeter from radioshack, so the solar panel has protection...

  • hay! its a solar kazoo!

  • lol.... i actually make electric kazoos, when i get done with my next one ill try and post a vid for ya.

  • sounds like you're strangling a cat. But. other than that. very interesting :D

  • god thats annoying

  • Excellent demo. Very concise and apt. But, it would be a problem if I were to use one here in Britain (guess why?). However, probably, a light operated theremin would be all right.

  • Well yes, in the UK you have limited playing opportunities but you do realize I'm based in Glasgow? So it is usable.

  • Wow! I didn't even check that. That's incredible. So, do you use any other theremin when the weather is gloomy? I was just wondering if it is possible to use an optical thermin that does not use solar energy. Say for instance, something that uses tube-lights or incandescent bulbs.

  • Sorry. I just checked one of your links. You have answered all the questions. Awesome stuff!

  • what the hell is the point of that

  • God damn, destroy that thing.

  • wanna whole lotta love yeaaaaoooaaoaoa theremins own!

  • Oh WOW you are ultra-cool. The chicks must be crawling ALL OVER YOU!

Where is your band playing next weekend? The science lab?

  • No we're playing the chess club. Science lab was already booked by another nerd who will be your boss in a few short years :)

  • My boss? Shoot, I really doubt that he is stupid enough to hire the likes of me. He would have to be really desperate for a janitor or a ditch digger!

Besides I am way too busy smoking cigarettes and scratching my ass with a football.

  • hahaha lol...i think marble mad thought u were dissing him >.>

  • ROLF

  • I'm surprised you had enough time away from getting laid, and making money to make this comment.

  • oops I accidentally hit remove instead of reply to that comment.. fortunately you can also read it on the other solar theremin video. It must have been a struggle for him to string so many words together so he may as well get the best use out of it. Bless.

  • I love you.

  • nice , but i prefer the original!

  • omfg dis is liek magic

  • Again, I can name that tune- The Star Trek theme.

  • man this thing rocks!

its like returning to the very base of electronic instruments but a lil from the other side if u get it)))

    cool.

  • HAHA IT SOUNDS FUNNY

  • Lol, you responded to me then deleted both our comments? You are correct however; I am no vampire. Don't know how that's relevant but there is no denying the fact.

  • Nope your comment is still there. It's just been pushed off the first page by other comments. It may also be hidden due to people giving it the thumbs down (I didn't do that btw) but it can be revealed with a simple click.

I'm not explaining the vamp thing. never explain a joke.

  • Okay, yeah you're right it's there now. I'll think about the joke.

  • Sounds like a scary door opening at first - then a crying baby. It's great!

I think the best part of the video is the witty comments by the submitter. :)

  • That is awsome!

  • Pretty cool idea. I take it from the video that the pitch is altered by opening and closing the lid. Any way of controlling the volume?

It'd be need to see someone play something on the Altoid box. The Ether and Aether Project did a rendition of "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. Something like that on this thing'd be awesome...

  • Just cover the speaker with your hand to lower the volume.

  • oh yes when the world runs out of oil, ill turn to my solarpowered altoid theremin for music. even though i have an ipod that runs on electricity with or without oil. =DDD

  • Hey i just recently started my own music channel. I would really appreciate any kind of feedback as to how i can improve my videos and/or music. Please rate and comment! Thanks!!

  • Can you control the dynamics? Can you alter the pitch based on proximity? Then it's not a theremin.

  • Can you cast a shadow? Then you are not a vampire.

  • Best. Comeback. Ever.

Cool vid too. Congrats, dude. :)

  • that is hilarious!!!

  • lol you're great

  • cut youre finger-nails freddy crouger

  • ha ha ha awesome!

  • theee worst noizse ever

  • play Good Vibrations!!!

  • Before anyone posts saying how annoying the sound is, please check out my other vid where I feed the signal through a ring modulator.

Now THAT is an annoying sound.

  • good job but sounds like crap

  • cool innovation but crappy sound bits

  • weird- I have one that I built that uses a regular battery but uses the light to determine pitch. no volume control, but I could just put another sensor in the path to the speaker and it would do that too. I think I might post it if I can find my camera- which I think I left in one of my jets.

  • Sausage fingers..

  • Artist's hands (with which I could crush you):)

  • AWESOME! great job!

  • It's cool, but sounds like shit. I much prefer the moog theremin. Nice clean sound.

  • Very interesting and creative. Nice to see another use for the mint boxes. You don't see very many instruments that can continuously play without batteries. It would be neat if you published techniques on how to play certain notes and such. Great video. Thanks!

  • i like

  • It sounds like an air raid siren. Still, that's pretty amazing.

  • Way to make something so amazing (solar power), so annoying.

  • sounds like star trek for a bit..cool

  • it gets really annoying though

  • thats cool

  • babies need to die =)

  • Excellent. Thanks. Just follow the link in the video info blurb and press the buy it button.

  • i would like a kit... your kinetic horse works greak.. still trying to build it full size...
