The Whore of Revelation is Rome. It is not Jerusalem, which will be the city that Jesus will return to rule and reign over. (Even though Jerusalem is in a state of unbelief and apostasy now) Mystery Babylon will be burned and left desolate, This is Rome. 1st. Peter 5;13 as Peter revealed. Jerusalem will be the capitol of all the earth during the 1,000 year reign of Christ.

I thought the whore was Rome also, but Scripture doesn't seem to affirm this... the "great city" is mentioned in Revelation 18:16 and 11:8, it's Jerusalem in 11:8. Also the fact that Revelation 18:24 says the blood of the saints and prophets was found in her, that's Jerusalem--cannot be any other. (Luke 13:34). Also, check out Isaiah 47, it matches up with Revelation 18:7-9... it's Jerusalem as far as I can tell. I realized all suppositions that it was Rome were unfounded.

@droptozro Well there is no question that Jerusalem is often mentioned in both New and Old testaments as being both the City of the Great King and the Joy of the whole earth in psalm 48, and as a city in apostasy and unbelief in Luke 13;34. But Jerusalem is not the same city described in Revelation 13,17, and 18 as Mystery Babylon. (nor actually mentioned in Rev. 11;8) Mystery Babylon will be forever burned and destroyed. Jerusalem will be restored. This is consistent throughout the Bible.

I agree that Jerusalem will be restored--agree with pretty much everything you stated, I'm seriously still trying to figure this one out. I at first gulped this down so easily thinking it was the RCC--but, I need an answer to Revelation 18:24... it clearly says the "blood of the...prophets was found in her"---how could that possibly be Rome? If you could explain this from that position I could look into it--I just don't see how that can be any city but Jerusalem.

I think most of this confusion resulting form claims that Jerusalem is the "Mystery Babylon" instead of Rome and the RCC is coming from our "friends" in Rome, because the Word of God so aptly identifies them as the Whore. Though Jerusalem did shed the blood of saints, so has Rome where Paul and Peter were martyred. Some claim Rome has murdered MILLIONS. Rome has been the center of western civilization since then, Jerusalem was virtually in ruins until recently. Jerusalem just doesn't fit.

I agree with this statement completely, but that does not fit the prophecy from Revelation 17:8. The issue is, can we know for certainty when Revelation was written?  Because if it was truly written after 70AD... then I believe this perfectly fits Jerusalem, they were, are not, and will be(the beast behind it). If it were Rome at that time, then they would still "be" a power. That doesn't fit.

@droptozro Most biblical historians see to place the writing of Revelation by John on Patmos Island at about 90 A.D, which would be in the aftermath of the horrible destruction of Jerusalem. But imagine this for moment. This is sort of exciting as a "place your bets" interpretation contest. If we are living in the end of this era, and Mystery Babylon will be REVEALED (as in a Revelation) We are ALL going to SEE just exactly WHO Mystery Babylon is! My bet is on Rome and the Vatican. Haha yeah. I spoke about this issue with my fellowship today, got some good answers and responses to my questions. They're still looking into it, but some may have answers-for one, the "prophets" doesn't HAVE to mean the OT prophets-it could mean the new ones(Eph 4:11). I got an answer for the fact that the "beast" behind it could still be either one--since the beast is what "isn't" not the city(Rev 17:11). Rome definitely fits the platter, I just don't want to be hasty. God bless
