  • did kathy marry a woman?

being a halfl-irish catholic girl, she was probablly raised to think that sex before, during and after marriage was PERVERTED!!

this might be why her subconscious mind looked elsewhere for, er, gratification.

    WHAT DO OTHERS THINK?

  • This arrangement is terribly inappropriate for this song.

  • It is great to see a number of people from the U.S. appreciate the talent that Kathy Kirby had. She had a clarity, quality of diction and tone that transcends nationality. I think she deserves recognition. I do not think she ever really got her true due even in her homeland.

  • fantastic, as much as i like doris, kathy wins hands up

  • She never made it here in the US....our loss. BTW, prefer this version of Secret Love over all others. What a voice!

  • She never made it here in the US....our loss.

  • Ah... Suzi Jari... I knew I'd seen her somewhere before...

  • i dont know if anyone feels like i do, but whenever i watch great artists like kathy kirby, elvis presley, jane russell, etc i get a yearning to be in that era, to go back in time.... those days were the best... yes i have great days now but nothing like in the 60's.

  • This song was played at my grandfathers funeral on the 9th of september.. he was a great man who never regretted anything he done in life and had a great family who loved him and who he loved dearly. R.I.P grampss.. i love you! <3

  • RIP Kathy - only just found out the sad news mainly because we were reminisicing a couple of days ago and your name cropped up - so thought I would google. x

  • @countrygirl641 Check out Kathy Kirby's page on Facebook. All her closest friends share there memories. Great.

  • R I P .Kathy you ar beautiful, gorgeous and a lovely singer.

  • I've heard Dorris Days version which is wonderful. kathy Kirby has a remarkable powerful soprano. However I don't like the arrangement, with it's driving bass line and up tempo quality. Nothing to do with the Kathy though, who has a great voice.

  • Living here in the States, we were deprived unjustly of hearing this beautiful, lovely, majestic voice all those years ago because of the snobbery of American DJ's. So because she never made her mark across the Atlantic, I only heard about her passing for the first time just now. Kathy Kirby would have made a fine contribution to the British Invasion if given the chance. Farewell, dear lady--now you can sing in the highest hills among the golden daffodils.

  • @gladasya10 Thank you. I believe she did appear on the Ed Sullivan Show once. She was offered work in Hollywood, but her manager would not let her sign, as he would have lost control of her. On facebook she has a page Kathy Kirby, where you can chat to her real friends. I have been a fan since 1963.

  • Great voice, great person still miss and Love you.

  • Always remembered you and your wonderous voice. RIP

  • Logging in from Wellington New Zealand. And now my secret love's no secret anymore. RIP Kathy. Another piece of my life's jigsaw has fallen away.

  • @rorigiles In Wellington in 66, always'e seemed very windy ?

  • MAY I THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS TRIBUTE TO KATHY ON YOU TUBE WANTED TO MYSELF BUT DIDNT KNOW HOW, I SAW KATHY IN 1964 IN BLACKPOOL MY HOME TOWN FELL IN LOVE WITH HER THERE AND THEN SHE LOOKED LIKED MARILYN MUNROE BUT WITH THIS INCREDIBLE VOICE, WILL NEVER FORGET HER , SHE DESERVED MORE ACCLAIM TO ME, THANKS AGAIN BOB

  • RIP Kathy you were one of the Best

  • R.I.P. Kathy,never to be forgotten

  • RIP Kathy. Number One.

  • Night night Kathy...The wonderful 60s will never be lost to ourselves and future generations, you were so much a part of the fab decade.RIP

  • Night night Kathy...The wonderful 60s will never be lost to ourselves and future generations, you wre so much a part of the fab decade.RIP

  • Good bye Kathy . thanks for the music . XXXX

  • RIP Kathy

  • Rest in peace my darling. May you sing and thrive with the angels

  • RIP Kathy, thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with the world. God Speed and God Bless. XXXX

  • R.I.P. Kathy

  • please stop rapi**** the old music,

    cherisch it as it is

  • great stuff you can hear every word without a microphone stuck in her face. She has always been my favourite .

    Clutterman

  • What a change to hear the words pronounced so clearly . She will always be my favourite. She did need a microphone stuck in her face to bring a great song to life.

    Clutterman.

  • she is just teriffic

  • I do respect all of y'alls opinions on Doris Day's version. But I swear only Kathy Kirby belted it out like it needed to be, and the music is groovy. I like it.

  • kathy is the tops,a better vocal range than doris day.

  • The music is terrible for this song. She has a nice voice but Doris' voice has a sexy quiver in it when she sings, and it makes it really heartbreakingly romantic.

  • @mreunome But like I have said before I love them both.

  • Music certainly is terrible. It's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones some years before Led Zeppelin. Funny old world, ain't it?

  • @mreunome SORRY BUT KATHYS RANGE OF VOICE AND LOOKS JUST IS THE BEST TO ME

  • @mreunome Disagree with that - one of the most brill arrangements of the 60s IMHO

  • Kathy was my hearthrob as a teenager,i thought i loved her, couldnt sleep at night just thinking of her,she was beautifull, was a great singer and she just came over as the girl next door type of girl, still love her to be honest but i had better not let the wife know..lol!!

  • the best ever version of "secret love" thankyou kathy xxxx

  • Check out a clip of Suzi Jary playing Kathy Kirby in the Kathy Kirby Show tour. If you search Suzi Jary as Kathy Kirby you will find it!!

  • I recall seeing her when I was young, I loved her voice , her lips, everything. She is something special!

  • @drachir6 I agree She was and still is something special.

    Dave

  • Great performance. She was nicknamed Kathy Curvy - and for very good reason!

  • probably the best to come out of britain , not many can compare to this song

    just great

  • Kathy had everything, a real star. Makes the so called celebs today appear even more talentles.

  • @TheDavidjoy Thank you for your comment. Kathy likes these video's, and she is still the Lady she has always been. And at 70 can still carry a song.

Have you read what topguncoops wrote! makes you sick we all would dream of going out with Kathy, and his Father did just that.... Lucky so and so! Ha!

  • i was brought up listening to 50's and 60's music as a kid by my folks and this is one of my alltime fav songs............ boy could kathy kirby sing shame we dont get singers of that calibre today

  • my dad went out with her when he was 20 in north london haringay hes now 70

  • @topguncoops Lucky so and so. Most of us could only dream of going out with Kathy. She also is 70.

He could have brought her to Enfield where I lived it is not that far from Harringey.

Good Luck to him. And all the best to you.

Thank you for sharing that. Maybe you he could tell us what is she really like.

    Dave Mac

  • @topguncoops ... how sweet x

  • @rebeccabromell Hi Thanks for the comment. Where ih Australia are you? My sister lives in Perth, I lived there for 7 years 1968-1975.

    Dave

  • hi i sang this recently for an audition for sky one, hope it brings me luck xxx

  • @whileweareaway

I wish you the very best of luck on your audition. Just listened to your Mum singing, it was just great, wonderful voice..

    Dave

  • @59DAVEMAC hi, it was his mum (the singer) who went for the audition, thanks for the comments, its confusing as i sneak on my sons account ha ha xx

  • @whileweareaway if you sang like that, you got job

  • @redredreds100 thanx i never heard back from sky ones talent show, i will keep tryong though

  • allow me to vomit. thank you.

  • @caniplaydrumsforyou

This sort of comment is not wanted. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE VIDEO DO NOT WATCH IT......

    Dave

  • @59DAVEMAC well said dave

  • @caniplaydrumsforyou What a dick you are

  • just brilliant loved her singing in the sixties and hearing it once more just brings it all home how good the music were then and how it now...

  • Wonder whatever happened to her trying to marry another girl in the 80's, (I think it was - maybe 70's?). I know that she was dressed as a guy at the time. Check it out in old newspapers. My guess is that due to all the harassment by guys, she preferred girls?

  • Love this version of the song. It certainly has the power behind it the lady had.

One of the first 'records' i ever bought. Sometimes I can be so old fashioned but hey ho ................ its life. Read other notes re KK and hope she is ok, truth be known ... she cant be much older than myself .................. certainly not an 'old lady'. TC KK xx

  • kathy i loved you then and i love you now.

  • One of the greatest female singers of all time.

  • Sadly KKs Website has no working contact. I have tried several times. I hope that by some miracle this gets through and I can have a contact from the website. I have so many memories to share. about this Megastar!

  • @vaslav030547 Works for me

  • "Me also Kathy. You!!! From your ver first entrance into my life."

  • Wow, Kathy does a superb job with this song! Love it! Thanks to Brian for sharing and to 59DAVEMAC for posting it!

  • Just amazing a true legend

  • Well must add my comments to this arguement. Yes Doris Day was a good singer but her version was a bit sugary sweet, Kathy Kirby however still sang it as a love song but wow did she really want to shout it from the highest hill! Sorry all you doris lovers but Kathy does it for me every time.Genuine emotion and angst.

  • Great and freshest version of this song.

  • No one can sing "Secret Love" as well as Doris Day did in "Calamity Jane". It was a love song and that is the way Doris sang it. This up tempo performance can't compare to the feeling that Doris Day put into her performance. Fantastic!

  • Kathy Kirby remains the sexiest looking female singer this country ever had.

  • So say we all...

    Dave

  • @philsinatra damn right your are mate, these girls were girls and not like stick insects.Great comment.

  • I also have a lot of affection for Doris' version, but have to admit that this ingenious catchy arrangement has my foot tapping every time. I love the backing singers with the 'wah oo wah' bits!

  • Miss Kirby could as well - but it would only be imitated.

But Doris Day could not sing "Secret Love" as well as Miss Kirby ;)

  • I've noticed over the years that people tend to prefer the first version of a song. Doris Day's "Secret Love" won an Oscar. My husband and I fell in love with Doris' version of "Secret Love'..it's unlikely anyone will ever change our feelings about her or the original song. I don't know why anyone would want to.

  • Update to my comments 8 months ago. According to her website Kathy's illness is now serious. May God grant her a speedy recovery.

  • ...Nah, I MUCH prefer Doris on this song.

  • I agree she really does have a powerfull voice and sings it with lots of energy, great singer great song.

  • In my opinion, Kathy Kirby and Alma Cogan were the best singers ever to come from these shores. Just phenomenal. ;-)

  • You are so right. Thank You

    Regards Dave

  • That's OK. I was just voicing what a lot of people would be thinking if they had any kind of musical ear. ;-)

  • I was six when Kathy Kirby was singing on the telly, she was brilliant, me Mam said she wore far too much lipstick...I think any mother or wife would have said that looking back. Now, blimey, Kathy Kirby, I can even imagine the smells coming from the record player...not in a ooer kind of way, just you had to stick your head in close to get the surround sound effect. Kathy Kirby, the first woman singer I really liked (fell in love with) on the telly in the sixities

  • If this is the original recording, it could be improved, her voice and orchestra is enough all the extraneous stuff is distracting.

  • Ditto

  • Leaves Doris Day's version standing. I'm surprised there's no Ready Steady Go or Thank Your Lucky Stars clips of this.

  • Never fails to take me bk to my childhood, what a voice

  • What a voice.

  • ...her Voice is phenomenal(!) - very respectable - all Time, thanks Dave, Best Wishes and Happy New Year!

    ...francois

  • Thank You Francois,

Hope you had a nice Christmas, and very Best Wishes for the New Year to you and your family.

    Dave..

  • I love love this song as well, she was gorgeous. you can read about her on wikipedia, all the best Kathy.X

  • i love this song,

  • Brilliant track - the big production showcases Kathy's voice perfectly. Will watch out for the show!

  • Gosh this takes me back like only music can.

    Nice work. Thanks.

  • Hi,

Thank You for your comment. Kathy has seen all my video's of her. Also Graham Smith who produced the Kathy Kirby Story 'Secret Love', which is on tour around Britain NOW!

James Harman Kathy's Manager has also seen them and has congratulated me on them. I have been a Kathy Kirby fan since the 60's.

At the moment she is unwell.

Check out all 7 video's of Kathy, love to hear your comments on them.

    Best Regards Dave..

  • This is my alltime favourite song. I still get goosebumps when I listen to it. Don't get that with anyone else. Sorry to hear Kathy's unwell at this time. Hope its nothing serious.

I , too, have been a fan since the Sixties.

  • It's been almost 50 years now that I was sitting at the radio and listened to the Saturday Top 20 of British Forces Network.

And I remember very well Kathy Kirby with here crystal clear and powerful voice. I think she was in the British charts for several weeks with this song.

What a great singer and what a poor management around her. Too bad all this.

  • Thanks for the comments. Yes she was a powerful singer and a great person, And still a Star now as she was then.

    Regards Dave

  • STAR

  • the beautiful cathy. so many thank you's

  • Thank You, I am glad you enjoyed it.

    Regards Dave

  • What a great voice she had and maybe still has and it's so sad that we haven't seen or heard her sing for 25 years and more. I have just finished ready her bio by James Harmer and it made for very sad reading. I was pleased that Paul and Linda McCartney helped her out financially but disappointed that Cliff Richard wouldn't help her despite claiming to have christian values. I feel Kathy was too trusting of the men in her life, especially Bert Ambrose who used her money to pay his gambling debts.

  • Thank you. Yes I tend to agree with you on the men in her life.

    Dave..

  • fab voice in the sixties--my aunty lala used to sing this on a saturday night at our parties--i was only six and now i am the wrong side of 40 and i find myself doing the same thing-lol

    Cheers for posting it -memories

  • Thank you for your nice comments. Glad you enjoyed it.

    Regards Dave..

  • truely fabulous voice.

  • Thanks. I have been a fan of hers along time.

    Dave

  • I was instantly fascinated by first time right after I heard this amazing song. Miss Kirby has so great voice and all hers beautiful songs are time and again a pleasant surprise !

    ..♥♪♫♥♪♫...♥♪♫♥♫

  • awsome tune...well done for putting it on here.KEEP THE FAITH.

  • What's the point of putting Doris Day and that other bird Suzi Jari (who I've never heard) of on here? It just causes confusion.

  • Doris Day had a hit with this song. Suzi Jari is the Star of The Kathy Kirby Story, Secret Love. And looks like it will be a hit again by Suzi. For your information...

  • Because they have a similar talent. That "other bird" Suzi is making the Kirby story her very own. 2009 will be her year.

  • Thanks,

I wish Suzi all the best for the New Year.

I am so glad to hear that the Show as been a great success. Good Luck to all.

    Regards Dave

  • Great stuff Dave. This clip has now been linked to the "Secret Love" show site and I am sure will be enjoyed by many.
