To get in to the AOS you have to be with the nz police for over two years still that don't that don't win you a spot you have to sign up into it and if your chosen then well your in. and if thinking i'm talking crap i used to run with a detective and i asked about it cause i was training to get in but then well when you got drugie mates to tell you they would hate you if you joined and would neva hang wit you well i'm kicking my self now damn
The STG has recently starting doing joint training with NZ SAS in MOE (Method of entry) basically learning how to blow doors open and actually storm fully protected buildings. Very cool stuff
does anyone have the clip of an incident back in the 80's i think when a guy went into the queen st sports shop loaded a rifle and went outside, the police turned up with nothing more than there balls and tried to take him down, now that, took balls alright, they surrounded him, even the k9's had a hard time in that incident where one was blasted by the guys shotgun, klap bak!!
AOS are all volunteers from NZ Police. They all do normal police duties along with their AOS training. They are a specialised unit that gets called out to high risk incidents involving armed offenders/ drug raids etc., hence the name. I guess what makes them extra special compared to many of their counterparts is that they are not a dedicated "swat" type unit that spends all their time kicking down doors. Just normal cops, so are not alienated from the people they deal with and not gun ho rambos
Spieghtsandmates is right. They do perform regular duties and are oncall. However not anyone within the Police can just be called up for AOS duties. There are a number of certificates you need to obtain first at the Police College in Porirua. Courses are often funded by the Police Association so anyone serious about serving as AOS doesn't have to fork out too much cash while away from home.
Hey buddy, are you a Res. Officer with the Army? I just joined up at Auck north, have my final fitness/medical on April the 4th. Great videos by the way, I love this country, the boys in blue and our military do a great job and it's very rarely a video does them justice.
us german shepherd loves in the UK are signing a petition for police dogs to get stab vest went out on duty and we will send the petition to 10 downing street.
Cops in NZ get WAYYY too much shit for doing their job. Back in the day if you were a smartarse to a cop youd get a hiding and that would be the end of it. Now they have to worry about being to harsh when arresting someone because a criminal can get him/her in the shit. Theyr a Crim they deserve what they get!
I agree with most of ya statement, they choose to become a cop, not ordered too. Cop when I was a teen booted my ass and drove me to my olds and dad booted too. haha I respect that cop to this day. Now my mate walking home was taken to the ground, bloodied, arrested and forced to go to court. He was never near "the scene" in court was found 100% innocent, judge said an zealous cop. Cost him say 2k in lawyer, time off. Never recieved an appology. Wer'e responsible for our actions, why not cops?
Just say I did that to you, or anyone that will piss and moan at this comment. I and my mates threw you on the ground, your struggling as your thinking what the?? we in ya face abuse/swear/hit/torn shirt, then cuff ya and chuck in a car, finger print, photos, constant verbal/mental abuse, throw in a cell until I think I wanna let ya go. Now what charges would you have me on?? Assault/GBH/kidnapping?? You would expect me/us to do time or at least be made to pay your bills with an appology.
Nah just the normal AOS, but they wear those over suits when they believe they may run into toxic chemicals. Usually wear them when going into suspected P-labs etc, however I believe on that occasion, correct me if I'm wrong, the owner of the house had used toxic chemicals on an attack against his neighbours and they believed he might have more in his house. At 05:14 they wear the same suits when apprehending a wanted P-cook in Chch and put him through the showers.
@KellyJ1199 yep it make a difference different unforms for different situation tp match thier suroundings. You coldnt exactly go raid a house wering floresant yellow could you no cuz you would get spotted

do excuse my ignorance, but the footage at 4:20, why the different uniforms? does the wearing of that colour make them any different?
