...but only because Tails snapped his neck as a result of that crash landing into the capsule. They had to bring in a stunt double to pose for the ending screen.
@darkangelsv1 Thank you! Well, there's a reason I (and a lot of others) found this video through that article page, after all. I'm surprised I have 27 thumbs-up for just reciting the trope title, though.
The thing about SA is that the life total can actually go up to 127, rather than 99. I ran through one set of 128 lives, then got this run on the second set before falling below 99.
On Dreamcast, you can stand on the edge of the hotel switch and just nip the closest ring that spawns, scoring 2 effortless rings per second until you have as many rings as you want. On GameCube that doesn't work (because the switch is further away), unless...you have a lightning shield. Only Tails and Knuckles are capable of generating lightning shields in the adventure field.
With Knuckles, just keep digging any place you can dig.
With Tails, there are certain plants you can destroy with a tail spin, and sometimes they leave items behind. These are in limited supply, though, so if you exhaust that supply you'll have to change area then come back to make them respawn.
You sure are good with these blind runs, huh? I never knew that Sonic would completely cheat just to stay a maximum distance behind Tails! Now I know, thanks to you. Again.
Discounting times that take advantage of non-standard controllers capable of generating faster lateral speeds than a standard Dreamcast controller ever can, yes it is.
They emit a larger voltage on the analog signal than official DC controllers are specced to do, but still a voltage that's in spec for the system's ADC, so you get the equivalent of something like 150% of full tilt in a direction on an official controller.
It's a disc that's been scratched to hell; even running it through a CD scratch remover several times hadn't helped. No idea why it worked this time, but the important part is that it did.
Ah, good old SA1. I still play that to this day, given my Dreamcast will let me. Over the years it's become prone to resetting randomly; no idea why. Was it the disc itself or the Dreamcast that refused to boot?
This just proves that Tails didn't win shit. Sonic was just tossing the dog a bone. He could keep up with a cheating Tails.

Considering that this is basically the whole purpose of the SA Tails levels, you don't sound very convincing.
