lmao - "no special brownies here"

    you tell that dill! lol.

  • How is the climate where you live? I live in Norway and we have a long winter. Do these bloom again when summer arrives? Or?

  • @WildChildftw Hi there. Yes, these bloom again when summer arrives. Even areas that have heavy winter snow can grow an herb garden. Have fun with it!

  • Greetings Jason, im becomming a chef in denmark, really enjoy it.

I really wanna thank you for doing these vids, help for my inspiration alot.

  • @ustad66611 Thank you so much! Good luck to you!

  • @Dano78229

    Thanks for the comment!

  • so i went to home depot the other day to buy some basil seeds but theres so many different kinds like sweet, etc...which one do you recommend?

  • Sweet basil is very nice.

  • What's your favourite herb?

Mines personally corriander. Just tastes delicious.

  • I love coriander (cilantro). We use it quite a bit. Basil is great as well, and I use fresh chives for many things. We often use the thyme for our chicken dishes. I guess I like them all!

  • if you are into herb gardening you should visit herbgardeningadvices!!!!

  • @HerbGardeningAdvices

Sounds good! Hope you have some information on your channel soon!

  • Hmm very interesting!! I am planning to grow a few of my own vegetables next Spring/Summer. I'll have to add herbs to the list!!

  • hahah ...your videos are becoming like the food networks ....smooth producing !!!

shoot.................you should have won the prize money as the next food network star !

  • Wow, thanks so much for the kind comment! That really means a lot to us as we do work very hard on them. All the best to you. ~ Jason

  • I grow some inside ....I also have the same bulbs around all my fish tanks ...and I keep some plants around them.

great video chef, I would like to see more of this type of theme -_- good to learn where food comes from !

  • I live on the second floor of an apartment building. Is there any way I can grow a small herb garden on my patio?

  • Absolutely! Get a few planter boxes and plant any herbs you like! They are very hardy. Enjoy! Jason

  • I just recently found you by looking for a fish taco recipe and I'm so glad I did! Now I'm a subscriber! I have thought of growing an herb garden for years now but have never gotten around to it. This definitely gives me some inspiration. Thanks!

  • Thank you and have fun with your garden! You'll save a ton of money. Those fresh herbs are expensive in the markets! Cheers, Jason

  • Cool, i'ma try that indoor garden too, if i can find it.

You can use rosemary to keep deers away from your garden too... that is if you have deers in your area.

  • Great tip about rosemary! Yes, we do have deer around here. Thanks! Jason

  • I am thinking of one of those indoor herb garden, Williams - Sonoma sells. Since the summers a cool where I live and well winter is 8 months long. I like the videos very much, eating out here is expensive and really poorly prepared. I would pain you to see how they serve pasta here.

  • Cool! I haven't seen the Williams-Sonoma one. I'm glad you like the videos. Cooking with fresh herbs makes your food taste better and is so easy to do. Let me know how your new indoor garden works out when you get it. Take care! Jason

  • Love the fresh herbs... But only some can survive in the hot AZ desert. However, it is common to see rosemary as huge shrubs all over Phoenix. When planting cilantro, can you let it go to seed to harvest the coriander without sacrificing the plant?

  • I see rosemary used in that fashion here in the California deserts.

I have always planted cilantro from a container. It takes off pretty quick, and I use it pretty quick and then it's gone. I have read that you can let it go to seed and it will come back. It likes cool temps with sun. Maybe you can try growing it in AZ in the fall?

  • Great tips Jason! It would be a wonderful video if you made a video on what herbs really work well together many thanks!

  • Thanks for the suggestion. Good idea! Jason

  • I got Dill, Red Basil, Large Leaf Basil and Parsley in mine. Is it true I have to get rid of the flowers from the Basil or they'll die? I actually want to expand the garden, but herb plants are hard to get here. The garden's really handy.

  • Hello! I'm glad you also enjoy your herb garden. Here are basil tips. According to the National Gardening Association, "Pinch the tip from the center shoot of basil after it has grown for 6 weeks to force side growth and prevent early flowering. If flower stalks develop, simply snip them off. Basil is programmed to initiate flowering when it has six pairs of leaves on a stalk. For maximum production per plant, cut it back to two leaves per stem, and dont let it grow past four pairs."

  • My wife has an herb garden in our back yard. We love having fresh herbs for our food! It's great! Thanks for the fantastic videos & tips!

  • You're so welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video. What kind of herbs do you have growing?

  • We have a few different things, but my favorite is the Rosemary! It smells so good & can be used in so many dishes! We also have basil & parsley.

  • Sounds wonderful!

  • watch the rosemary it likes to take over too

  • Unfortunately it never survives our cold winters in the California mountains. We have to replant it every year. I wish it would survive, as I love the scent and the taste!

  • Five Stars!!

  • Nothing like having a herb garden, think i might set one up soon :)

  • They really are great to have around, and so easy to take care of!

  • 'erbs

  • I like the rosemary with my steaks when I cook them :p

  • Is it possible to grow herbs inside an apartment?

  • Yes! Use an indoor herb garden. My brother bought me the AeroGarden 6 Elite. I'm going to try it out this winter and I'll post a video on our progress.

  • cool garden! thanks!

  • You're welcome!

  • Where do you get the seeds for the herbs? How long does it take for them all to grow?

  • You can buy seeds at any home improvement or gardening center. I prefer to buy the herbs that have already been started in pots since our summers are shorter than most in California. Herbs are almost like weeds; they grow quickly!

  • Ive got a good collection of herbs including lemon grass which is great in stir frys

  • Oh, lemon grass is great! I might have to add that to our garden. We have a great recipe for marinated olives that uses lemon grass as the main ingredient. Thanks for the idea! Jason

  • I am in Virginia, can I start herbs in early August?

  • I don't see why not! Just plant them in the cooler evening hours and give them a good soak. Most should come back every year.

  • Hmmm. An idea!

  • Great video Jason i got a small one in my house lol mines basil great for anything.

  • Basil is awesome. One of our favorites! Cheers, Jason

  • nice thats amazing

  • Thanks! Nothing beats fresh home-grown organic herbs.

  • ya got that right!

  • Growing a personal armory of herbs is a really great idea. I guess it's true that growing herbs saves money and is fresher, but I mainly like it because I'm lazy. It's nice knowing that you have herbs on hand; it helps with improvisation.

Only problem is that, here in Canada, it can get too cold in the winter...

By the way, you have a beautiful back garden, Jason. Very, very lush and green. I often accidentally kill living things in my care. Hahaha!

    Cheers,

    Dustin

  • Hi Dustin, Here in the California mountains, we also get quite a bit of snow. Luckily most of our herbs, except for basil, rosemary and cilantro, come back every year! We are going to test out a new indoor herb garden that my brother gave me for my birthday this year. I'll let you know how it works.

    Take care,

    Jason

  • Cool. Thanks. I must say though, your relatives are good at giving gifts. A herb garden kit sounds so much better than pairs of festive birthday socks... :P

(I joke; I love my family)

    Cheers,

    Dustin

  • Aw, socks are great too! LOL. It was very generous of my brother. I can't wait to try it out.

  • Great herb garden,

unfortunately im in the same situation as Dustin in Canada, way too cold in the winter, but ill take a look at the indoor garden for sure,

    thanks for the video

  • I agree -- I couldn't live without my herb garden. Free, organic herbs anytime I want =]

  • Isn't it great just to go out to the yard and grab what you need? I wouldn't trade it for anything. Especially when our local market sells fresh herbs with the roots on for $4-5 each!

  • what about in the winter?

  • Great question! Then the indoor herb garden comes into play. My brother just got me one, so I'll post a video on how it works later this year. Cheers, Jason

  • nice idea! thanks
