This is the first of a long, long line of BMW CS coupes that remained in production through 1997. The 8-series coupe was its last development, introduced in 1989. In 1962 it started with the old 3.2-liter ohv V8. By the time production ended in 1997, there was a 375-bhp 5.6-liter V12 at the top of the engine lineup. The 1990-91 US Market recession and high prices forced BMW to discontinue this long-standing line of sporty coupes, though BMW brought back the 6-series circa 2006.
