  • Love these hometown brothers...they took this song and made it their own!

  • Sweeeeet Holy Afro! This is a pretty cool version! Dig it baby! DIG IT IF YOU'RE ABLE.

  • The kind of song that lovers can dance to.

  • Used to play this over & over (Lakeside's hot remake of The Beatles tune) back in the 80's (on record player then) - gotta get another CD - hint - Tjanel...(other one got lost/stolen later on) - Lakeside - "Fantastic Voyage....LOVE IT !

  • Real Music that touches the heart and Soul! Sing it for me Otis

  • The Beatles would relate to the precision of the sound. What a production! Yeah yeah yeah!

  • ok lauren i heard the song :)

  • At 1:58, that man looks like a goat.

  • this is way cool! what a great band! lakeside

  • seven ppl never had their hand held....or been in love

  • i reallllllly love this song it make me fall in love all over again

  • i lovethis this oldachoole

  • Reminds me of my college days back in Atlanta, GA.

  • Also if my memory serves me properly, the Beatles version was on the b side. I lost the record after a horrible tornado. But to this day I treasure that record very much.

  • Great song and video. In high school a boy I knew had a crush on me since sixth grade. Senior year he gave me this song( a 45 record)as a graduation present. We dated twice and have remained good friends all these years later.

  • My first rock and roll song was this song by the Beatles. I can remember the Ed Sullivan show and hearing this when I was six years old. When I heard this version it brought back such good memories of my Dad lying on the living room floor watching this. He was my age now. DANG!! Love both versions!!!

  • hand-holding, one of my greatest joys in relation

  • As much as I LOVE the Beatles, I NEVER liked this song by them. But Otis and Steven sung the hell out of this song, and I love the whole blues twist on this classic. Thank you for posting this groove, my most favorite of Lakeside's recordings.

  • I love this version!!

  • Thanks to Lakeside and the Beatles; this song made her hold my hand am so grateful............Sing it with me Otis.........! .Well this kills it for me wish this generation will have time to sing such valuable and ethical tunes and dress like these fine brothers:I raise You !!!!

  • Hey rellenoz, you couldn't have put it any better.

  • I meet lakeside in 1981 they were in Chicago, Il Otis told me I have a dimple like him when i heard that i was speechless

  • I saw this 45 in a little music shop when it first came out. Being a huge Beatles fan from the time they "invaded" America, I bought it without hearing a single note. Over the past 45+ years I have collected well over 1000 cover versions of Beatles material. In my opinion it is very difficult to use the soul/R&B treatment on a Beatles song, but Lakeside did just that and with brilliant results. This always ranks in my Top 10 favorites. Outstanding job!

  • You should never remake nor cover someone else's song ... UNLESS you can bring an entirely new musical perspective to it ... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED LAKESIDE ... !!!

  • Like their version.better thn.the Beatles

  • 1 OF THE BEST SLOW DRAG SONGS EVER!!!!

  • OH Wow Wow,,, I am loving this so much.... Thanks for this post

  • This is what made the class of "77" so cool and messed up at the same time. We grew up listening to "good meaningful music" and in later adult years got caught up in the "gang" related music. Don't get me wrong, in both their own ways it was all good. But for us 1970 graduates.........we prefer OLD SCHOOL. It makes more sense and has more meaning. Peace Out

  • this is beautiful.....

  • I loved this song long before I even heard the Beatle's original. Lakeside's version is still the best I've ever heard.

  • What a beautiful remake of a song...and somehow you feel it coming from the artist. This has to be the best remake of any song...EVER.

  • Such a sweet nice version of the original.

  • @GerardFreeman As one who has known Barrington pretty well for 31 years, I can assure you, Barrington Scott Henderson has NEVER attempted to SOUND like a single living soul in his life. His tone, range and agile throat places him in a league of his own. '...trying to sound like' is comical and pure hilarity.'

  • Man, this is just sooo good. You can easily hear how this version affected the writers of "Across the Universe." When Otis hits those high notes, the effect is indescribable.

  • oh thanks, you jogged my memory. Yes I heard it on the radio but never knew who they were. I think I heard 2 or 3 Lakeside songs I really liked but never saw them once.

  • Most people dont know that this song was made by the Beatles first.

  • @thecoolbro1

So what? The Beatles took Black music re-worked and came to America and called it the British Invasion. The creators and the originators are simply re claiming their heritage.

  • I saw the Beatles live TWICE. Paul six times.

I am an ol white country singer.

But, when I want to sing this song I crank up my system and I sing along

TO THIS VIDEO --- OFTEN. It pushes my phrasing practise.

MMMMMM One of the top versions of this ever recorded.

    Thanks for posting this. REALLY.

    Ronnie C. SeCoy

  • @charles43110 this got much airplay in 81

  • Im 26 yo n I KNOW gud music! These brothas was getting down back n tha days! Sumtime I wish I hadve been a part of that era. Man people aint doin it like this no mo!

  • Best remake, timeless!

  • @A297MAN104 This is the bootleg version. The original song was cut with Barrington Henderson. See the Youtube version posted by nyseamex to hear the superior vocals of Bo Henderson. This Otis person is weak by comparison by far. Listen...you be the judge. Barrington's tones and highs are so much sweeter and dynamic!

  • That was not the original, this video is the real deal. Otis left the group and Lakeside redone it with a new singer in Otis place years later. The original comes from the Lakeside album "Your Wish Is My Command" ...Barrington was trying to sound like Otis. @daToinado

  • Excellent....great arrangement and version of this classic Beatles song.....Dave

  • Awsome

  • When word become feelings by way of art, and emotions come a message to the one you may love. If you can't say it let Lakeside do it.

  • I told my 14 yr old son that when he can sing to a woman like Mark Wood does at 2:58, then he has officially become a MAN! LOL

  • I love you Lakeside!!! You guys are freakin stellar!!! I'm a white girl from South Georgia and North Florida that grew up listening to you. I wish you still made new music, but with the shit they call music now, please! Yall sang that shit! For real!!! Love you Lakeside!!!!!

  • EXCELLENT, nuff said...

  • This song brings back sweet memories of my one and only true love. I wil love him for ever

  • this is such a bad-ass song.

  • This is such a great CREATIVE remake unlike anything we see today.

So many memories from High School days.

    Fabulous!

  • Music at its finest - a class act for sure!

  • otis stokes killed this shit!

  • truth be said, this r and b version is much better than the beatles version.

  • @tunmishe absolutely the best version, ever.

  • Yes Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was a kid when I first heard this and I LOVED it. I knew nothing of the Beatle's. I was a Black kid in the ghetto. Anyway, I heard Beatles version as a teen and I was like "Why are they singing that? It doesn't even sound good." It took me while to put 2 and 2 together and realise that it was their song, and Lakeside remade it. Now, I love the Beatles and can appreciate their original recording AND appreciate this luscious remake. They're like 2 different songs that are both brilliant.

  • @rellenoz Amen to that! I understand where u are coming from

  • @rellenoz Nobody did it better than them!!! I love it. thanks for posting one of my favorite songs. Now I gotta here One Way sing Something in The Pastl

  • They did justice for this song. The Beatles shoulda let them make it. This is the original for me!!! Luv Lakeside!

  • The Beatles would be very proud of this remake of their classic song!

  • to anyone who lived in dover delaware at the time this song was out and hung at the square club you know this was the shhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiii oops

  • I agree

  • Beautiful song, amazing voice, great band YES..

    大好きなレイクサイドのカバーの域をはるかに超えた一曲、キター!!!

    渋谷のタワーレコードで初めて聞いたあの頃を思い出すね~。

    Lakeside forever(^^♪

  • Wow, I haven't seen this since like 82'

  • There will never be music likes it's been in the 70's and 80's originality awsome will never ever be this great pure music! glad to been in that time now, we are in the 21st century no originality, gone but not forgotten....

  • I'll let you hold my hand and fix you something good to eat :-)

  • Amazing that they took a fast song and slowed it down with soul! I love this version. I wonder does Lakeside look back and laugh at their hairstyles then??!!!! This is a great and underrated group. I heard them in concert and they put on a show!

  • I remember this joint. Best version of this song ever made... I've heard Lakeside several times. In concert these brothers THROWDOWN!!!!

  • yes indeed. this is dedicated to Lorrie Jean. this was her JAM.

  • my all time favorite LOVE SONG.

  • When I bought this 45 back in the day I damn near wore the grooves out on the thing.

  • I visit this video. I can't help myself. It is so beautiful. Lawdy I feel a shout comin' on.

  • This song has been on my playlist since it came out I was curious to see if it was on you tube .

  • bravo bravo magnifico

  • my favorite song, great music that whats up.

  • WOW!!!!!!!

    Great cover, luv it....

  • WOW!! it's so amazing how these Gentlemen are all just standing around & "SINGING" without running around like a chicken without a head & we are only hearing (real) MUSIC. now this is MUSIC!!

  • Wow, great version of a classic....

  • When I first heard this song I asked my brother, who was that group?... Man It took

my breath away. If I ever get married again. This version will be played somewhere

    at our Wedding... LoL

  • heart felt and beautiful Are there any real men out there anymore

  • Beautiful Song.......

  • Proud and happy to say, Amazing masterful talented musical groups from the "Gem City", Dayton, Ohio! The Ohio Players, Zapp featuring Roger, Heatwave, Slave, Sun, Shirley Murdock, Steve Arrington, Mel'sa Morgan and of course, Lakeside

  • THIS IS WHAT A GROUP SOUNDS LIKE!!!!!!!

  • NOW THIS IS THE ORIGINAL CUT WHERE HE SAIDS" SING WITH ME OTIS". MANY DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS ONE AND THE REMAKE WHERE HE SAIDS" SING WITH ME BROTHA".

  • @ccalll1 I think I've had heard 3 difference version of this( Lakeside's versions)

  • THIS IS WHAT REAL TALENT IS, OLD SCHOOL DID THE DAMN THANG!!! I loved this group, they were good, good & good. Their performance was so powerful that if you attended a concert & after it was over, the joy you felt to be in the same building with people. Just great. Big ups to old school music & talent, there is nothing that compares to it.

  • (Heart) results_____ where has the music gone??

  • To me this is the best kind of remake. You don't simply make a copy of the original. That's just lazy and disrespectful to the original artist. To take an admired song and do an interpretation that shows the song in a completely different light, yet sounds good too, makes it interesting and worthy of the original. Best of all, it 's not a competition- each can be admired on their own merits.

  • @emmettk ...and it gives the original song more value. If you're gonna do an interpretation of a song, do it justice. Lakeside did it justice. You can't get T-Pain to do "Computer Love" and have such value. For true.

  • @emmettk I agree. Much like D'angelo did with Prince's "She Always In My Hair." He did it with his own flavor yet it was really good and funky. He paid homage to Prince.

  • THIS SONG STILL GIVES ME CHILLS! I REMEMBER THE 1ST TIME I HEARD IT! I WAS 12 YRS OLD! IT WAS 1982!! I THOUGHT IT WAS A BANGER THEN AND I STILL THINK SO TODAY! A PURE CLASSIC

  • @mdobbs1970 I so agree with you. I was the same age when this hit. It truly stands the test of time.

  • look like they took a page out of the Temptations Book!~ Looking so sharp!

  • Amazing version of an amazing song. I still have the 45 from when this was released. JPG&R would be proud.

  • WOW!!! standing ovation. wat a tune bad & mad!!!

  • YES...YES YESS!!! REAL SINGING..REAL MUSICIANS..REAL HOOKS...BRIDGES....HARMONIES! WHT THE HELL IS GOING ON THESE DAYS!???

  • @Misaaq13 100% agree.

  • @Misaaq13 Every generation says the same thing, but let me tell you...John Legend, Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars...we be aiight.

  • @NoPawn The artists you mentioned are pretty average compared to past artists. In the 60s and 70s we had 100s of top notch artists. The airwaves were saturated with real musicans and vocalists. The artist of today are nothing in comparison.

  • @PatsBooks That's kind of like saying there are better bands than Lakeside, which there are, and I love me some Lakeside (especially this song). And the artists I mention would not disagree with you, especially since it is those artists that have inspired them. But they are real musicians and vocalists too, and they will give you quality stuff. I love what they are putting out, and there are others out there that are giving you good stuff that you don't even have to look too hard for.

  • @Misaaq13 Everybody just want a quick buck, they don't care what it sounds like. Just take the one line they can manage to pull off without messing up, repeat it over and over again to the same beat - pow. Instant song.

  • 1 person does not know good music.

  • I first heard this when I was a teenager, about 13 years old. It was an album, no such thing as CDs back then. I've searched for this version for years. The other version is ok but not as good as this one. Thanks Boss for posting this.

  • wooohooo Lakeside covers the Beatle's !!~ ahh sweet.. I should post this on me blog!!~~

  • i just want to agree with hardhittndougs comment 100%

  • NOW THIS IS THE JAM!

  • As good as they looked in that video, they didn't have to sing. All they had to do was just stand there! But I am glad that someone posted the original Lakeside version.

  • Oh My Gosh, Lakeside made this song their own. No one would ever know this is the song by the Beattles. Beautiful is not the word for this song. Thanks Lakeside for re-doing.

  • kala12335able luv luv luv

  • This is my jam! Wow, what talent ... I mean they got skillz ~ can sing, play instruments, and they got style & class. Too bad I can't say the same for many of today's artists.

  • I wonder how The Bealtles liked this rendition

  • @bagley232 Of course, John Lennon was dead by then, but, yeah, would've loved to hear Paul's, George's, and Ringo's, reaction to it!

  • THIS IS WHEN AUTHENTIC SINGING AND PERFORMING WAS THE THING! ...not like the crap you hear nowdays..

  • @99830459 So true these were real musicians, singers and song writers.

  • Look at those tight afros and colorful microphones. Whoa! Lakeside was the shiznit and so is this "original" video. LOVE IT!!

  • @LadiUneek - Lakeside is coming to the BANY - Albany, GA this labor day weekend 2010

  • @Sapphireblue959. Oh wow! Thanx for the heads up. Wish I had known in advance. Would love to see Cameo and Morris Day and the Time too. I won't be able to make it, and I see they still have floor seats available. DANG!!

  • You are right TheMr, I don't know why they don't. because their music was popular in the 70's and 80's, and also some of their music are being played on some movies of today such as "Johnson's Family Reunion".

But this is my first time on youtube that I have ever seen Lakeside period, I just heard their music a lot they made my favorite jam back when I was in high school "Fantastic Voyage".

  • ITS CRAZY NOBODY IN GENERATION KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT LAKESIDE

  • i love this i wish we could go back 2 them days

  • This song reminds me of a man I met on Valentines' Day 1981 I still think of him when I hear it.

  • Great Version, one of my favorite groups

  • This is how this song was meant to be sung, Thanks to The Beatles for writing the lyrics, big ups to Lakeside for arranging and producing this song the way it should have been done. Sing it with me Otis. Nothing like the orginal baby. Crank this one up.

  • I LOVE IT!!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this video and song. I love this entire album. I was in High School when it came out and I had the priviledge of meeting them and touching Otis Stokes's hand. He's the second singer. My heart still skips a beat whenever I see a pic of him. Otis if you're out there and still single, contact me, I'm all grown up now...Smile. But Seriously. Love U.

  • My Homeboy's!!!!

  • "Sing It With Me Otis." Love this version. This is the original Lakeside version. The Beatles were the original writers and singers. What Lakeside did with it is so amazing. Beautiful. I have all their albums. Real Talent, Real Singers, and Musicians.

  • @hardhittndoug Thanks you for a very well-written expression of my very thoughts about Lakeside and what they did with this song! :) Original. Beautiful. Amazing! I'd run out of adjectives trying to adequately describing my feelings.

  • @tc1261 I thank you for the kind words.
