You don't need drugs to appreciate Pink Floyd. I hate when people say The Wall movie can only be understood on drugs. However, when smoking weed I a song like this seems slower and it gives off a really good vibe. So you don't need to be high when listening but it could add something extra.

I was 8 years old when I first got this album and this song quickly became my favourite. There are guitar and Synth techniques used here which became the foundation of techno-experimental bands and influenced a whole new genre of music. As for the whole drug thing, I will admit to listening to this while high during the rebellious teenage years and although the sensation of heightened consciousness or experiencing something 'mighty' one should realize that all drugs do is alter reality !

Weed has made me learn to slow down and appreciate music a lot more... That said no you don't need drugs to enjoy this music, but if you choose to do them, Lets just say that between the echoes of the simultaneous solo you can almost hear Gilmour singing along in pitch to his solo. Craps crazy when your mega stoned. Crank the volume, dim the lights, and float away whether your completely smacked on something or perfectly sober. Pink Floyd is true artistic brilliance.

It's like riding a playing a seventh gen game system on a general tv, or like doing it with a condom...while they are both still enjoyable experiences, it could and will definetly better if you get an HDTV or don't use a condom,respectively.
