The Soviet Union had to impose extremely hard and willful discipline to overcome the Fascist invasion to which their country was subject. The Nazis hated the Russians as subhumans and pursued an extermination-type campaign in Russia. The United States was not subject to anywhere near the same savagery that the Nazis inflicted on Russia. Compared to the casualties on the Russian front, the US took moderately few.

The point is that the winner writes the history. Russians arrived in Berlin before any other allies troopers.
So they wrote that WE defeated the Nazi Germany, but that's not true. In fact, it was the only major aggressive move of the red army during WW2.

I'm sure, that without help from the US (both financial and military), Germany could invade UK in a few months (they could already screw British with bombardments of London) and then all their forces were going to come to the eastern front.
Whats obvious is that Germany was a super-power. Neither US, nor Soviet Union, could defeat Germans alone.
Now the technological advances in both countries are nothing innovative, but a copy of Germans technology (Rocket, Nuclear energy, Submarines ).

OK, I've touched up on my books a bit more. Stalin wanted to make Russia a greater industrial nation, doing it in as little as ten years. Doing it so fast took the lives of millions. So, the Russians didn't like Stalin that much after that. But when Hitler broke the pact, the Russians thought that Hitler was better at first. They learned quickly he wasn't. They turned back to Stalin and under his courageous leadership he led Russia to victory. Although some of his policies weren't so great.
