Your LCD cable is plugged in too much or has come unplugged.
Pop off your keyboard (Look for a video explaining how to take apart the laptop/upgrade the ram. After you get the keyboard off of your laptop, you'll see the LCD connector- It's right next to the Status LEDs at the top right.)
Unplug it and check that it is fully plugged in.
I am 100% sure thats what your issue is, no doubt.
I had exactly the same problem, except that it did this from the beginning. How did you solve the problem, if you did so, or did you have to return it ?
I have found that the way to solve it is to delete the Monitor driver in winxp and change it to Plug n Play. For some reason it keeps changing from plug n play to 1078x768 driver.
So once I do this it solves it for a few days.
It's a bit strange that a windows driver affects the screen size of the POST screen but the post screen seems to use the last settings from the operating system.

Mine does this on Linpus and also on Ubuntu. Removing the SD card and then the battery and rebooting seemed to sort it at first.
Now it is stuck like this and won't give me a full size screen - it's going back to Amazon!

I am telling you from experience.

Errrr...No....
Obviously this was the first thing we tried.
Once in windows there is no native resolution option.
Also, notice the bios also boots to this resolution where the right side is unused.

Hey Mate, what did u do to resolve this issue, same thing is happening on mine

I have found doing a Windows XP restore point recovery the best option.

Tried that first thing....doesn't work.

This solution worked for me. Thank you!

For me it was a short term fix....I sent it back to Acer and have received it fixed. They advised me that the Video cable was faulty and replaced it.

Any you think I didn't try the obvious?
justintechnology 3 years ago
I found updating the bios didn't fix it at all.
Full reinstall does seem to fix it 80% of the time for me and XP.
It's interesting that it happens on a Linux version as well as I really thought I had pinpointed the problem.

It seems to be the problem.
I am reluctant to send it for warranty because they probably will just do a system restore and that fixes it short term.
Does yours also POST like that...hope you know what I mean? Does your post screen also show the bottom missing like mine? My video 14seconds in.

Justin

Hi,
Yes I updated the bios but no luck.

Yes I am sure...it happens not just in windows...but from POST...so how can I have changed it.
When in windows...I don't have any option to get it to the correct res anyway as the aspire thinks my screen is smaller
