  • I know they're expensive, but the question is where do I get one?

  • @AmtrakSurfliner768 I have no idea. They are no longer made and I was lucky enough to find this complete set on ebay, so I think that is your best bet. Just keep checking and they occassionally show up.

  • Love the wig wag headlamps!!

  • Thank you very much!!!

    Are you a model railroader?

  • You can say that.....I just went crazy buying trees, airbrush, foam blocks, bridges etc....my little man is excited. We're building in the garage. I'll send pics of the progress when I get a chance.

  • Awesome!!! Yeah, I love building and making stuff like that. All those details really pop out and make a layout look real.

  • I always come back and watch your Surferliner vids every once in awhile they're so great! How did you light the cars though as I'm considering interior detailing and lighting my Superliners?

  • Thank you very much, I really appreciate that. I'd like to apologize though, because I've been working a little bit at a time on this set, so I haven't made any new videos of it for a long time.

Anyways, in regards to your question, they actually all came lighted from the factory, so I cannot take credit for that (although I'd like too! =) ).

However, I'm not sure, but do you think the new lighting kits for the new Superliner's would work?

  • i cant send videos but i can send you pics of them, by the way whare did you find your locomotives

  • Yeah, if you can send some pics I'd like to see them, but I meant to post the videos here on YouTube.

I get my loco's from a couple different places. One of my all-time favorite places is Arnies Trains in Westminister, CA, then Milepost 38 in Anaheim Hills, and of course I look for some deals on-line too.

  • i know what you meen i looked for them and couldent find them so i took some old superliner cars and turned them in to surfliners and they turnd out HOT!

  • Wow, that's really cool!!! Especially since they are actually doing that with the prototypes now. I've seen quite a few Superliners painted in Surfliner colors.

Lets see some vids of them!

  • Just want to ask is this an HO Pacific Surfliner? I have the Engine, but I can't find where to buy the Surfliner Passenger Cars?

Can you tell me where I can buy them?

  • Hi there! Yes, this is an HO scale surfliner! These cars are Overland brass models that I got as a set on ebay. I got it from Red Canyon Trains, but I have not seen them again. But if you go to unionstationproducts(.)com you will find some Amtrak California cars that you could make into Surfliner's. They take a lot of work and need to be built, but they could a be pretty good substitution.

  • Is there any way to get the powers that be to make a plastic version of these cars

  • I wish!!! Actually, you can suggest models to Walthers and Kato on their websites and I know that lots of people have recommended these models at different times, so you could try doing that too.

However, if you go to unionstationproducts(.)com, they make some Amtrak California cars that you could assemble and paint to look like the Surfliners. They take a lot of work (my brother has a set) but they look pretty good. Not great, but good.

  • u r correct....they do look pretty good. just got to tint the windows up and at least theyd be something

  • Yeah, we still haven't built my brothers set yet! LOL!!

  • Hey,

I have multiple steamers but none were purchased at the same time. Is there anyway I can set them up with 1 DCC code that would allow me to do a synchronized double header?

  • Yes. If you put the trains on the program track you can give them the same address. If you still have trouble with them running together you have to adjust the speed curves on each loco so that they run at the same pace.

But, the very first thing is, have you tried putting your desired loco's into a consist?

  • well I have run them in a double headed train ad I haven't switched to DCC yet but i was wondering if it was worth it. Now I'm going to look into it further but thanks for the help. Happy railroading and get some steam power.

  • No problem, and trust me its totally worth it! The amount of control you gain and the simplicity of the setup is much nicer. Plus, once you add sound, you'll never look back!

For the most part, you just put the trains on the track and if you want to run a double header, you just put them in a consist, so that they keep their individual address but run together.

The computer can make small adjustments to get the trains to run together. Changing the speed curves is a last resort.

  • You need to make the tractor move forward

  • I tried to reason with the guy in the yellow hat, but he refused!!! LOL!!!

  • Do You Get To Control The Horn?

  • Yep, that's function #2. With DCC sound you can control all sounds from the bell and horn, to brakes, engine rev, and other stuff too.

  • AWESOME THX!!!!

  • No problem man, let me know if you have any other questions. FYI, I'm pretty good about responding though, so asked once is usually sufficient. LOL!!!! Just wanted to bust your chops bud!

  • Ok Thank You Cool! Im 11 And Im Really Into Model Railroads So Thx!

  • No worries bud, I was just teasing you. Like I said though, if you have any questions just let me know and if I can't answer it I'll point you in the direction of someone who can.

  • O HAHA Thx

  • great train and great layout, awesome photography work too :) i'm a bit jealous because the trains i had on my old HO set always used to derail!

  • Ha ha thank you very much! Beleive me, I've had to face plenty of derailments myself, LOL!!! Fortunately only one serious one with the Surfliner set (DOAH!!!!!!!!). But not all that bad, just about made me scream though!! Ha ha! Anyways, the credit for the track work belongs to my friends that built this layout, but thank you very much for your comments.

  • you're welcome! i used to hear a lot of talk about these HO scale trains derailing, it got so bad that i had to upgrade to my O-27 set when i was about 6 years old... right now most of my models and tracks are in my basement gathering dust 0x) i think once i get my own house, i'll end up building my own set somewhere

  • Yeah, I think a lot of that trouble came with all the track before really getting into the flextrak stuff. Unless you hand laid all your track, the other small sections made a lot of joints and naturally a lot more opportunities for derailments.

I wish we had basements here in California, I'd build a huge layout! If you get a chance to dust of your models be sure to put some vids on here of them, I know I'd like to see them!

  • what store do u get amtrak?

  • This one I found on ebay from a store called Red Canyon Trains. The other Amtrak's that I have I've gotten from Arnies trains in Westminster, CA.

  • Does that Surfliner come in N scale?

  • As a matter of fact there was a company that was making these cars in N scale for a while that I found on ebay. I don't remember the name, but it's out there!

  • how much did that cost and what scale is thaT? z, n? idk these things but looks cool!

  • Thanks for watching! It's HO scale and it costs more than you probably want to know.

  • So were did you find the surfliner cars?

  • They were made by Overland, but I found them on ebay from a couple that used to have a model train store named "Red Canyon Trains."

  • DANG!!! Compleat with the alternateing ditch lights and all!!! Very nice. 5 stars!

  • Thank you!

  • Welcome

  • HOLY SHIT THATS NICE!

  • Ha Ha! Thanks man!!

  • I agree 100% with you Brian. This thing is unbolevable.
