  • @trans - I know all about WW2. First point - the BSP soundtrack to the film is brilliant. Second, I'm from Nothern Ireland and haven't enough words here to describe how much extreme nationalism - blue and green, no difference to me - fucks up the place. There has been some growing up as we have seen, but the fascists on the edges still run their drugs, dodgy fuel, bombs and shootings as they try to get rich, fuck up the environment and care for no one but themselves. Happy New Year!

  • Stirkes me there's a lot of growing up required below. Just forget nationalism - of any sort - and realise that war is a very, very, silly thing indeed.

  • @MrMurphyisacat See your point. But we`re not rabid nationalists. The Germans, Japanese, and Italians were, though. BSP stood firm, and alone, in the Med, with enormous sacrifices. Malta wanted to remain free, and the men of BSP made it happen. Greek independence from fascist rule, where civilians were hanged from streetlamps. Enabled by BSP. Food to starving Britain, supplies to Russia across the wastes. D-Day landings, and victory in the desert. The senior service. Worthy BSP.

  • Go home and wait for your white feather withnielandi.

  • I notice the simillarity between this and 'The Great Skua' but I'm really not complaining, it was one of my favorite tracks on DYLRM!

  • Funny when you look at the fashionably-named "witnnielandi's" page. Pink Floyd in Pompeii. All possible through the Royal Navy. A navy ranged against the combined, and centralized, power of Italy and Germany. A navy that defeated them both in the Med, with enormous losses, and allowed British and US troops to liberate Italy. Can you imagine Mussolini welcoming Pink Floyd? Your ignorance makes you look foolish.

To the 1000s of British sailors "Who have no known grave but the sea".

  • @transonicbuoy1 Fashionably named! Hahahaha guess i should thank you for makeing me laugh. I notice you leave me a hate filled comment so you must be British but do you even live here? Britan has no future because its people cant remember its past and do you really think anyone still trusts the British establisment mainstream media let alone reads the Guardian? Hahaha

  • This is super song, super movie. You're the best. Thank you very much for Your playing on The Opener Festival in Gdynia

  • ar fheabhas

  • came here randomly.

thankfully is a good song. love it.

  • Ashamed to be English? Even though Englishmen fought, and died, for a free and prosperous Europe? By the million? To defeat murderous Naziism? In fighters, in bombers, across deserts and plains? In 1815 and 1914 and 1939. Good men - and now Europe and the world enjoy the rewards. Democracy and a free market. In the Med, across the Indian and Pacific Oceans, the freezing North Sea: the ghosts of British Sea Power.

  • @transonicbuoy1 I dont agree. The people of Britain today do not give a fuck about free market and Democracy and yet you're comment suggest's it even exists in Britain or the world today. Europe is very divided at becomeing the new soviet European union and the only thing Britain has going for it is the profit made from BAE selling arms to oppressive regimes. I will never be there soldier and die in a pointless war of ideology for a corrupt British establishment.

  • @withnielandi No BSP fan can take you seriously - you can't write proper English. And wash your mouth out, we don't like foul words/people here. Maybe you should meet my old friend in northern England. A real old gent who saw his mates burnt and mutiliated on British WW2 ships. A navy that freed the Med, helped to save the Greeks, and saved UK from starvation. Ships that took Private Ryan to Normandy, that allowed the liberation of Holland and others. A navy which allowed a free market. BSP.

  • @transonicbuoy1 Cant write proper English? The truth is a bitter pill to swollow it seems. I dont need acceptance from a BSP fan to express my view. You seem to think I dont have any feelings towards young men who lost there lives in war that did not end all wars when my own family fought for what seemed like our freedom but are we really free? "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act" George Orwell

  • @withnielandi But you'll live in their country off of their benefits like a tramp. Now stop being a depressed little faggot and shut the fuck up. If you don't like your life then kill your self quick time son.

  • @transonicbuoy1 Well said. We must stress, however, that it is 'British' Sea Power, and not just English; we would never have been the power we were without the ingenuity of Scottish engineering, take the carronade for example, nor should we forget the hardiness and determination of Welsh miners, and the many sacrifices made by the Irish and their Ulster officers. Equally, as with all nations, our past is not spotless, and we must remain vigilant to oppression and slavery. God save the Queen.

  • some ppl can just make magic! this makes me have happy days!!!

  • what's all the anger about? i can't understand it. i'm english and have irish ancestory, but this music is not about division (as far as i can see it) why the fuck are we bringing politics into it?

  • @wakokid2 500 yrs pal, and if u ever lived in an oppressed state u know wat im talkin about, i dont like to be negative

  • MOGWAY+SIGUR ROS+BLACK EMPEROR

  • @Yamaka1985

    Do you mean Mogwai?

  • @futurejessica yes :D do you agree?

  • Just for your information, this song is called "No Man Is An Archipelago" and is from the album "Man of Aran". Beautiful song, cheers!

  • wiz khalifa brought me here

  • little richie boy is clearly brain dead!! now iv nothin against t english, live and let live but he seems 2 4get t english bludgeoned half t human race for their greed and power and he talks bout irish taken scrap

  • isnt this song "the great skua"?

  • if there were more bands like british sea power the world would be a happier place

  • @ Chexycat we are certainly good at 'Stealing'. I don't actually think that there is a 'Catalytic' converter in my 'Winniebago'. We certainly are interesting 'characters' and sure there are lots of people living 'illegally' here too. Is British 'propery' different to Property?? I wasn't sure.

If you're going to slag people, LEARN TO FUCKING SPELL YOU COMPLETE SPA!

Great tune, lovely video and wonderful band. ;)

  • @Oceans85 Well said!!

  • also, that eamon22 is an angry little irish man isn't he? has somebody stole his lucky charms? or is he just a dick? I may be scum but I'm proud of it, at least we had an empire! if eamon22's ancestor's actually left the pub once in a while they might have done something on the world scene instead of all running away to america!! i joke of course, i'm very fond of our wee irish cousins, some of my best friends have had drives tarmaced by the irish!! ;-)

  • @richyboy77

    .boring isnt it?

All you want to do is listen to soe ebeautiful music written for a beautiful film about a beautiful part of the World and you have to get some out-dated nationalist weirdo squeeling about the name of the band providing the music...

Im surprised the likes of him have got to grips with technology like youtube seeing as they found concepts such as the 20th century so difficult to deal with

  • @richyboy77 Well excuse me but the Irish have been stealling scrap and liberating car batterys and catalyc converters on a world scene for years, They are very industrious charictors! only an irish family could fit there whole family and business into a whinnie baygoe camper van but they can also double it up and use it as a holiday retreat when the decide they want to inhabit (illegily) on British propery,

  • @chexycat as an irish man i think this video is a great mix of british and irish narratives of song and film. i'm a big fan of b.s.p. but regarding your comments, to paraphrase b.s.p " are we all waving flags now?" ha.! english is a wonderful language. you should learn how to read and write it. or as you might put it "reed an rite it"

  • saw them play last night supporting manics in bournemouth, awesome! this was the song of the night, and thats including manics songs (who i love)!

  • seen these guys perform this track supporting the manics in liverpool uni friday fair play im very impressed with BSP

  • After seeing them last night in Blackburn I finally get it..... Ruddy awesome stuff.

  • christ some uptight people on here! the title refers to the band name not the country of origin of the original documentry and as an irishman fair play to British sea power for a really good re working of the original material.

  • quite amusing reading all the garb about being British etc. Funny how people all gel together when our shores are under attack to defeat an enemy such as The Third Reich but when the dust settles we fight amongst ourselves. I agree the English have done some evil things in the past even to their own people but we must stop blaming innocents for crimes commited hundreds of years ago and even more recent. Politicians enjoy fueling past atrocities as it keeps the uneducated at each others throats

  • BSP perform the full movie with LIVE soundtrack OCT 3rd 2010. In Manchester

  • I've just returned from the Aran Islands an hour ago, the song 'Boy Vertiginous' I was trying to recreate the Basking Shark scene with the rope, no Basking Sharks, but what a place...stunning, as I said on my earlier posts that this is a place to see before you check out of life, and to all the rants I've been reading, go to the Aran Islands and just feel the beauty, Eamon man you're comments are insignifgant compared to the Aran Islands and I was born in Liverpool

  • what has the atlantic and Irish west coast got to do with 'britain' fuck all in my book, and fuck all to the people in the film.

  • @MsJony1234 Spot on.................. they are arrogant talentless art-maggots trying to live off other peoples work talent and integrity. British filth.

  • IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR U BRIT SCUM TO TAKE YOUR FUCKING...... BRITISH...... SHIT OF THIS.

  • @eamon22 Don't generalise Eamon, I'm from Manchester with plenty of family from Ireland and I'm not scum

  • @willdunn29 I'm not generalising pal, I'm being very specific, YOU are scum in my book. putting your 'British' tag on a documentary which I, as many Irish people do, find and believe to be of great national and cultural interest is offensive to me, and without any doubt whatsoever to the vast majority of Irish people. The fact that you are of Irish descent yourself, or indeed consider yourself Irish, and are from Manchester where anyone and his fucking dog knows how we feel about

  • @eamon22 ...and ignorant anyway. The fact is that I know nothing about the documentary, so you might be right that it is wrongly labelled as British.. but NOBODY is going to listen to your opinions if you say that all British are scum. That's like me saying that all Irish are backward, primitive, alcoholic cavemen.. just fucking ridiculous.

  • @willdunn29 British ???? Who be them ??? no such a thing maggot-brain. Anyway I was talking about YOU. Specifically, no generalizations involved. You just don't have any cultural identity, simple as that. You and Mr Patel at the corner and Maggy Thatcher would all be British would you ?/? A word INVENTED for the sole political purpose of the forced integration of my country into an evil imperial empire..... but you don't know that do you Brit ? Ignorant uneducated Brit.

  • @willdunn29 @willdunn29 about our national identity and the word 'British' being mixed up with it, only makes your ignorant self-seeking and serving stupidity all the worse. Take it down you offensive little art-maggot. Squirm around in your own shit and leave us out of it.

  • @eamon22 I think you need to find somewhere else to vent your offensive and ignorant GENERALISATIONS. Obviously in your desperation to seek national identity, you have forgotten that insulting people on a MUSIC FORUM (no I personally did not put a 'British' tag on anything and therefore are not scum) is both immature and pointless. When you are old enough (presumably in some years) I advise you to take your opinions to a more appropriate platform... where they will be denounced as racist and

  • @willdunn29 Racism..... pertains to RACE. This is about POLITICS and IGNORANCE little Brit maggot. There is no such thing as Britain, fool ! Where is it. The Scots sure as hell have no part in it ! Where is it's national football team ? What passport says BRITAIN on it ??? You are a retard. British, as an adjective simply means uneducated and striving, lost in a sunken squalid imperial dream. Pathetic....

  • @eamon22 "What passport says BRITAIN on it ???" Mine says The united kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Your move.

  • saw them preform this live last year with the film on a big screen in the background athe jersey film festival, they were superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have the dvd and it has a follow up many years later... very fascinating... beautiful island

    Dia duit

  • I just watched the whole film. Tough breed these people. The whole film with the original music is incredible. Watch six men fight to land a Basking Shark for two days and nights for the oil for their lamps. Incredible documentary.....Mind blowing people. Casts a giant shadow on the so called Welfare State. They had two feet two hands and a brain on a lump of rock in the stormy Atlantic. Europe is dieing. Welfare is killing it off.

  • Well, it might be interesting to know what an 80+ thought of the film etc. at the time and how they are now etc etc...

  • A really great band, nice accompany to a very hostile environment, the Aran Islands get some of the worst weather in Northern Europe, the men who put their lives at risk for the daily catch is truly remarkable, great little film.

    Go raibth Erin

  • Superb. Takes the piss out of being atmospheric big time. Does anyone know if the child/ren is still alive?

  • The past year, I listened only this. THAT'S MUSIC.

  • total respect to true musicans and artists

  • Never really listened to BSP but this is awesome, for fans of Explosions in the Sky, and this Will Destroy You. Top notch.

  • in ireland they are called the aran islands just for clarification purposes. great video and soundtrack!

  • A beautiful melody and video . Their music is unigue and special. BSP are so underrated in spite of their enormous talent ! My respect to a Great band !

  • Great music.

    Great band.

  • great skua with a twang, i love it

  • The isle of Arran is spelt as such. Why is this called Aran with one R?

  • Because the Isle of Aran is spelled with one "r." You're thinking of a different place. It's about the one in Ireland.

  • happy to be playing with these guys soon - met em once and they're a lovely bunch x

  • @dandylion911 why?

  • Yeah, great skua?

Because I had that song already and when I picked this cd up I was confused.

Great though, I used it for a video on my page.

  • I swear this is The Great Skua

  • I've never been able to get into BSP's music, but they are a band that I've always respected for coming up with original ideas and concepts. This is a pretty cool video though, and very pretty music. Bravo.

  • This is a brilliant concept from BSP

totally awesome from start tae finish and the movie as well is an eye-opener

Well done lads Folk is alive and kicking

    can't wait for Morecambe library.

  • such a great powerful combination of the unforgiving power of the sea....and the great powerful vibrations of British Sea Power....I will be watching this ever so loudly at 3:30am in me house here in Tejas...thank you BSP!!

  • HOLY SHIT! SO IMMENSE

  • Amazing! Cant wait for BFI. Is it the end of the film? If so I hope its not a spoiler...probably should have waited.

  • It's near the end, but not the end end. Don't worry about spoilers, it's going to be awesome!

  • yay! not long now!

  • the comments seem to dismiss the visual stuff going on in the film, without a soundtrack. the true grit of the people shines through, and always respecting nature.

  • who gives a shit?

  • Can´t wait for da release of da DVD . Saw movie as a young boy . & now + music = WOW !

  • Stunning, can't wait to see the full film/soundtrack!

  • Simply awesome!!! Bring on the Big Chill festival!!! :D

  • I heard that they were doing this but I thought that it would be something completely new, this is called "Great Skua" where it appears on the latest album. I think its a slightly different version though. The film is awesome though and the music does suit it really well. BSP are amazing

  • It's a 76 minute film so I'm sure there the rest of the pieces will be new compositions.

They are playing it live in the BFI next month which would be unbelievable to see.

    BSP are amazing.

  • Thanks yeah I have since found that out. Theres a video on here of them apparently playing it live already, along with the film, and that all sounds new. have a look its really great

  • I think that would be Irish sea power.

    great film.

  • Just awesome.

  • Simply stunning.

  • These guys remind me of Savage Republic with that grand sound.

  • Wow.

  • great!
