  • good series don't have a million seasons, just 1 or 2

  • @wallienator27 ... fail

  • After reading "With The Old Breed", though the various branches did squabble with each other, they all had a profound respect for each other that seems to have been lost on this selfish generation.

Fighting about which branch is better and especially rubbing your fucking Iraq/Afghanistan tours of duty in others faces goes against everything these brave men fought for.

I doubt any of them today would gloat about their actions to others, they did what they had to, not to impress you fucks.

  • @drizzt4418

on the contrary,a Marine will never let himself be passed off a soldier. This started in 1918 because of Pershing's mistake to lump together soldiers and Marines within the AEF into one force with one uniform. This also included taking away the Marine's EGA's. What followed was almost a century of a fight for a seperate Marine identity, and that once action is the reason every Marine thinks he is superior. Regardless of generation, calling a Marine a soldier is always a deep insult

  • @drizzt4418

The Marines of the 19th century lived for 90yrs in the shadow of us army defeats. 120 Marines was all that stood between the burning of Washington in 1812. They repelled 3 british attacks and finally the brits just went around them and at that time the us army simply left the Marines' flanks...that and the battle of 1st bull run was the first time the USMC felt a defeat that was out of their control and the us army could be rightfully blaimed....this is older than our century.

  • "Only the dead, have seen the end of war" -Plato

  • @coffeeandsoup "War doesn't determine who is right, only who is left,"

  • This particular trailer led me to beleive that this series was going to be a proper rated-R realistic recreation; A chilling display of the horror of the Pacific.

I was dissapointed in the PG-13 representation, of the horror that is so well documented. The acting was good, but it ought to have been far more graphic.

  • @centurion180ad I just finished watching the Pacific and I have to admit I was pretty shocked about the Okinawa stuff, ie. The baby's mother with the dynamite. I have a layman's understanding of the last part of the Pacific War. That sequence, basically fighting like animals in a sea of mud and body parts, to me was pretty horrifying. The great thing about these series that Hanks, Speilberg etc produce is that they make us want to know more.

  • 101st wouldnt have lasted long in the pacific

their first resistance was during market garden and they couldnt even handle a couple german tanks

  • @Sturmmann I disagree the war was just as hard in holland, belgium .etc. as the war in the pacific, would the men who fought in the pacific be able to cope with the cold in the battle of the bulge? no one knows, and the 101st were legends. they were both two very different wars...

  • @Sturmmann German resistance was fierce and very stiff during operation market garden. The allies came up against SS panzer units in that campaign.. it was by no means an easy fight, so you are very wrong to attempt to down play the carnage in that part of the war. Infact, you do quite a dis-service to all those fought in that campaign by suggesting it was of no consequence. I'm sure anyone who was present at that battle would have something to say about what u said there.

  • @Salvus967

marked garden and the bulge was the 1st time americans ever came up against real opposition and even then the germans would still surrender to them.

last time i checked less than 200 japs surrendered in Iwo, more germans surrendered to every 101st' battalion on d-day just so their wars could end...

the army could never get through with what the Marines went through in the first days of Guadalcanal, right off the bat they fucked up on mt austin

    Im an OIF vet btw...

  • @Sturmmann A little known fact about WWII, more soldiers fought and died in the Pacific than Marines. Another little known fact, the US Army has made more Amphibious landings than the USMC. And as to what you said about the 101 not being able to handle the Germans in Holland, if you do a little research you'll find that the paratroopers landed on a PANZER DIVISION, the Marines never faced anything like that. That being said, I respect all branches & veterans with all of my being.

  • @KingDavid18

whats this impression that we as Marines specialize in amphibious landings? We got the Pacific because we had more experience fighting in jungles prior to WW2.

Marines arent light infantry that land on top of the enemy. They spearhead attacks as crack infantry, whether from the sea or by land. Look up what 1st MarDiv did at Chosin for the army in the face of communist armor and outnumbered 50 to 1.... all the while entire army RCTs were being annihilated left and right

  • @Sturmmann I could've sworn we were talking about WWII but if we're bring up other battles then I bring up the Siege of Khe Sanh, without the 1st Cav the Marines would've been overrun and/or destroyed. Back to the Chosin incident you must not have heard about the 3 7th ID battalions who was right there with the Marines and fought off 3 Chinese regiments. On to Belleau Wood, 2 Army infantry regiments fought next to the 5th and 6th Marines, the only difference was the Marines had a reporter.

  • @Sturmmann ok, a jarhead stuck on his ass, the marines do the same damn shit as any other branch, and the marines do not have the most amphibious landings, the U.S Army secured most of the islands the marines didnt give a shit about, i mean the Army climed up a fuckin cliff on D Day, oh but according to you thats easy as hell, your a typical marine, once hes in the corps hes hot shit, my Granddad was in the army and he was on all island hopping with the marines, he saw no difference

  • @717KEv

I DONT GIVE A SINGLE FUCK ABOUT AMPHIBIOUS LANDINGS

the army was also there to embarras themselves at pt du hoc and omaha against wehrmacht conscripts who were only resting from the eastern front.

the us army's lack of professionalism and defeats are an embarrasment to this country, the USMC has no such incidents.

  • @717KEv the marines have broken our rules of engagment, Marines have done this since the Korean War, it makes us look like the asses of the world, Vietnam most definitly, the Marines had done more civilian murders than anyone else all because "they had a bad feeling bout them", ha thats not winning trust and respect, thats shitting in there house and not giving a damn to flush it, oh hey i got an idea come talk to my family bout how all the other branches are shit and the marines are bettter...

  • @717KEv Hey whats a war without civilian deaths, no matter how you look at it there will always be civilian causalities in war. And with this technology and ever expanding world, you will start to notice how many civilians die every day in war. I'm a Airforce Brat, but god bless Marines cause they do the dirty work.

  • @XxTuGgErNuTxX Murders and thinking your hot shit is completely uncalled for, they have no right to such things, there is no difference between them and the Army, but they believe there is, and thats what pisses me off

  • @KingDavid18

the army also had more ships than the navy during ww2 because it needed the mobility independent of navy command structure to do its job

The US Marines did write the book on amphibious warfare but we never cared to enter the guiness book of world records for the biggest landing

  • Now to stop this from turning into an argument over the internet where nothing gets solved I just want to say I have nothing against the Marines, hell I'm thinking about about joining them (one my brothers is one while another one was a soldier) I just had a problem with you implying that the Army was a bunch of push overs and who couldn't fight. I took offense to that because my father, and a few uncles and countless other family (one of which got his citizenship fighting in WWII) were soldiers

  • @KingDavid18

i dont give a fuck your little life story

Ive served with the Marines in the field and see the comparison with the army

ones are professionals and the others are a bunch of amateurs that could fuck up a wet dream.

We always tried to opt out of relieving our AO to the army unit, seeing as how enemy activity would consistently rise when the army would move in.

their lack of situational awereness cost them a decent number of MRAPs while I was there

  • @Sturmmann if you are talking about the army in world war two. You can ask any marine that served in Peleliu ir even Okinawa (the army basically did shit in Guadalcanal) and they will tell you how glad they were of having the army there (vice versa). The Marines may have done more in The Pacific (because the army was mainly in Europe) but the army still came in to help them with support.

  • @Sturmmann Fighting the Japanese as opposed to fighting the Germans would have taken some getting use to, the same would be true though vice-versa. The German army was all about tactics, and did everything for a very good and practical reason. The Japanese forces were hampered by thier "warrior ethics" and often made serious tactical errors as a result. But without a doubt, the 101st would have adapted to Japanese tactics if they were deployed to the Pacific.

  • @Salvus967

the 101st? you mean the division that suffered 70% at the hand of the rear guard german forces on the western front?

that divisions took in a decent number of prisoners. Unlike 1stMarDiv which took less than a battalion's worth of japs as prisoners during the whole war.

  • @Sturmmann marines don't take prisoners

  • @Sturmmann marines were good but comparable to airborne infantry for sure.both were well trained fighting units, capable of achieving victory on the battlefield.the only difference being in specilization of training, none at all being in proffesionalism, resolve and fighting spirit. of course the marines tell themselves they are the best, just as a thousand other military organisations do, doesn't mean it is actually true.. good for you for being an OIF vet by the way, but that's irrelevant.

  • @Salvus967

airborne is light infantry . Marines arent light infantry, theyre on par with grenadier guards

As an OIF vet, Ive seen the army's lack of situational awareness time and again and thats why the insurgents loved hitting easier targets.Time and again we heard reports from our informants that the insurgents avoided ambushing Marines from my battalion, there was a big reason for that. We didnt go back to the FOB after 3 days of patrolling

  • @Sturmmann Also, why wouldn't the 101st lasted long in the pacific?? unless they jumped into somewhere where they couldn't be re-supplied, but there is no reason to believe they couldn't fight the japanese under any other circumstance. You aren't really thinking before u r making comments, or you are to young to understand how ignorant and totally misinformed your comments are. Do more research, and make adult comments if you want to be taken seriously.

  • this series made me ill. it was just to realistic. just watched the 10th part and now I'm heavily depressed. thinking about those soldiers who fought in the real war. it's just senseless death and killing and it makes me sick. humans should really stop killing each other.

  • @Nynevy seeing as that sadly will never happen, humanity as a whole needs someone to do the dirtywork, some one to keep everyone else safe, and for that purpose alone, they died a better death then anyone else could even wish for. i wouldnt feel bad for them, i envy them, its their families and friends that suffered

  • For all military-oriented people: the civilian form of "repetative" is "repetitive". ;-)

  • they have already been showing this on sky to the 10th episode, i have sky but the thing is i live in Geneva (swiitzerland), and i cant get skyplayer, i really want to watch this!!!!!! it looks fucking amazing!!!

  • any one know when they 're presenting this in canada?

  • band of Brothers > The Pacific

  • poppy, I get what you said.

  • The Pacific: from Executive producer Tom Hanks, the producers of Band of Brothers, don't missing this film, you'll repentance for that.

  • I'm reading the book first, then watching the miniseries.

  • @ForceRecon198 With the Old Breed, is much better than this series. Frankly, the horror of the Pacific is not even close in this series. They pull too many punches. A proper movie would be rated-R borderline X, not a PG-13 romance novel.

  • U.S. Marines, the best in the world! God blessem

  • Love part 5

  • anyone have any idea how long it will be before everyone who doesn't own a Sky HD box can get to watch this? It looks amazing.

  • who knows the name of the song on the commercial for the pacific they show on channel seven? it's not the honor one it's like another one..

  • I'm more of a navy kind of person, i'm interested in all of the great sea battles like the battle of santa cruz, and the battle of the philippines... aircraft carriers and stuff. But this looks amazing! I can't wait for the box set if it happenes D;

  • collin, i reckon that's cause they landed the same way lol

  • the beach scene looks abit too similar to Saving Private Ryan.

  • @collin292 It's war, it's all the same

  • @collin292 A beach landing is a beach landing. Besides, Saving Private Ryan was made by the same people as The Pacific.

  • watch a fight scene from this on my channel! please subscribe!

  • this is the best ww2 series ever

  • this is the best ww2 series ever

  • Want to see this!!!! :)

  • i wanted to see this so badly. but dish has to be a dick and class HBO under PPV!!! and my parent's don't want to pay extra

  • I don't understand why they value the war by the United States finally entered the war when it was over (the Russians), the Americans sought only their market interests (control), because if they did not enter the Russians would liberate all the countries of Europe.

They should make a film of the country that defeated the Nazis and was also the country to set foot in Berlin, they certainly were not the United States.

  • they actually shot most of this in australia :) hats off to the veterans of the pacific

  • yes just an other john Wayne film the europeans didnt fight there

  • You know, my grandfather was in the Marines during ww2. The 1st division in fact. And he was shell shocked, and tramatised by that war. Please, dont compare a videogame to this war. To a war so many died in. To a war that so many families were ruined by. its just not right.

  • @vidking107 what? do you want a sticker now? good job

  • cod5 is gay, doesn't tell the story of the pacific campaign well

  • How about a series about the maori Batallion. Those guys were bad ass.

  • this looks really good possibly even better than bad of brothers its just incredibly annoying that it is only on sky

  • does anyone know where i can see the pacific, like a bootleg website, i dont have HBO

  • Europe was civilized compared to??!! Really? True, pacific land battle was arduous and gruesome but if you think it was more brutal, you need to take a second look at the eastern front; It was much more grim.

  • i dont want to sound unpatriotic, but i hope they feature perspectives from the pacific campaign OTHER than the USA as well

like the australians on the kokoda track, or the british in burma.

  • your not unpatriotic but this series is about the american marines in ww2.

  • yeah, and maybe we could call it "letters from Iwo Jima."

  • @clustro

    Fingers crossed.

  • Its an American show for an American audience. Its deals with the American Island hoping campaign, theres no reason other nations contribution needs to be shown. The British and australians dont make shows about the American WW2 experience. Personally, I'd like the BBC to do something with my money other than produce another costume soap for old ladies...

  • @manfred898 i'm british and

i'm writing a book about the american 101st airborne...

  • @manfred898 i'm british and

i'm writing a book about the american 101st airborne...

  • @manfred898 lol

Your so right they should make someting like this or make the costume soap have explosion or sumthin

  • yeah i agree

they went overboard killing nazis, srsly.

if you added up all the nazis killed in war movies, it probably exceeds every division hitler had.

  • pacific campaign was horrible

my grandpa would never talk about it

all i know is from what he told my dad

he got pinned down for 3 days by a jap mg nest when he was in bougainville

  • Not that the fighting in Europe was easy, mind, but you're right.

  • Thank you sir for your service

Also have to say that this looks ALOT better than Band Of Brothers, battle scenes are amazing, and the drama put on actually really shows, its like they are actually back there

  • How fucked are you now? how fucked are you now? how fucked are you no? you're really fucked now

  • nice!

  • Typical American

  • when will the pacific come to germany??

  • This is gonna be a COD trailer in a few years when graphics will be basically RL

  • Is this a movie or a series??

  • Hanks...youre no Jimmy Stewart. and because you cant keep your leftist mouth shut...your series is hitting 1/3rd of what it should be doing. Hollywood cant hide a true leftist rant from the internet . Things are different now. we dont buy the stuff you put out if you spout off about our military and our nation being terrorists. We'll fid out what you really are...and you'll pay for it....in a lack of sales. Shut up next time Tom.

  • CO. is the abbreviation for company for the real military.

  • when does this come out in sydney?

  • Australia - April 12

  • I LIKE! LET'S WATCH! :)

  • I've watched all of the promos and trailers. I think this is one is the best. It doesn't spoil too much and I usually like more teaser-like trailers.

  • i got goosebumps man i love band of brothers i got it on dvd till my player burnt out now i got it on blueray and tomorow im so watching this is there a way i can see it online i dont get the channel and im not missing this show please help!

  • If you mean its repetitive cause of the acting style. Just look deeper than that its about what the men did for us and now if you think about it most WW2 soldiers are dyin. Years pass over and over again and I think if we forget about them and what happened during the war even in WW1 and before that, we shouldn't call ourselves Americans, British, or any other people who fought against the enemies of freedom. We need to Always remember these soldiers and even the soldier in the most recent wars.

  • they should definatly sell this at hmv i would buy it

  • WWII was so brutal. Both theaters, and it's definitely one of the only wars of good vs evil

  • you play too much games to _LIKE_ a war better.

  • The carnage, violent explosions and death truly only the dead have seen the end in war.

  • Hot, humid and deadly-the carnage, truly only the dead seen the end of war.

  • I read one of the books this is based off of. This is going to be one crazy series. The book is called with the old breed i think alot of the things in it will make you sick

Both sides of this war american and japanese alike were ruthless. They had pure hatred for each other and didnt think of the other side as human beings. The pacific war was 10X worse than the european war. Where as the european has a certain romance about it. The pacific had none. Thats why hollywood steers clear usually

  • First of all Band Of Brothers is not repetative what-so-ever. Band Of Brothers is based on the true events of Easy Company of the 101st Airbourne Division during WW II, I am Canadian but personally I have respect for them. If you actually payed attention to the miniseries you would of caught the fact that none of the battles that Easy COY fought in were repetative! ( For all non-military oriented people "COY" is an abreviation for "Company".

  • finally, someone whos smart

  • Hey this guy is alright :D

  • Actually, the abbreviation for a military company is Co, as in How Co.

    Is it COY in Canada?

Good post..thanks for keeping things straight.

  • @Toddinfantry It's Coy. in the British army, and the canadian army has quite a few similarities so I presume it is the same in the Canadian army.

  • @GameReviewPanel Coy is used by commonwealth nations. The US abbreviation is Co.

  • if the world ends before this comes out im gonna be really pissed

  • fuck you jhak BOB is anything but repetative. Me porking your mom, now thats something repetative

  • screw japan lol but still this series looks bloody great

  • @jhak1341 its the true story of a company of airborne infantry so they cant make shit up to make it more interesting

  • @jhak1341 what do you mean, pepetetive. OF COURSE it was repetitive. your friends dying around you in war is the most horrifying repetition to war. that's what makes war so disgusting. and band of brothers, in my opinion, portrayed that terribly sad fact to great success

  • @jhak

now you're just criticizing what the veterans experienced.

  • that makes no sense....

  • I'm scared to think how many people are watching this video going "dude, that's f***ing awesome!" instead of "omg, how tragic, how horrible". "It is well that war is so terrible, lest we should grow too fond of it" -Gen. Robert Edward Lee

  • "I like the pacific front better"

they way u phrased that makes it sound like WWII was just a whole theatralic occasion. As if it's more fun to see people fighting & dying there, than it is in europe.

  • What channel on tv will this be on other than HBO. I dont got HBO. Will it be on Fox Channel, History Channel, or that channel with Mad Men?

  • i've got band of brothers on dvd and love it. cant wait till this comes out in sydney

  • Same here.. it be a good addition to the collection for sure

  • Is better on blu-ray

  • when is this out in the uk?

  • Sky Movies will start to air from April 4th 2010

  • april 5th

  • Is it morally ok to like a front of war? haha

The Pacific front is definitely underrepresented though, I'm excited to see a series about it hopefully with the same level of amazing acting and cinematography from the original BoB.

  • marines fought island to island in jungles where u cant even see the enemy......in europe u had everything in sight. not saying its easier but they had it tougher.

  • in this mini-series it looks like it is focused on infantrymen. But i think it would be really cool if they implement an episode of a navy fighter pilot, then an episode of a navy battleship gunner.I believe that the pacific theater was about Naval battle and Air dogfights. Because without em battleships and carrier pushing the IJN, this infantry couldn't have made a landing possible.

  • now stuff like this deserve a 5 stars

  • man this is gonna be sick

  • only japs

  • just wondering did more american soldiers die in the pacific theater or in the european theater?

  • We can only hope that its as amazing as band of brothers!

  • What is there to "like" about any front?

  • i'm gonna watch this and proabably love it. but it will never be as good as Band of Brothers

  • FINNALLY i havent watched anything that has a WW2 event exept the MILITARY CHANNEL

  • psh who cares whats better lets remember what these people did! A series like this is to make us remember!

  • they should stay in BoB line, you know, more historical action and less drama. I have to watch it before saying it's better or worse than band of brothers

  • @Marquardt90 please tell me if I am wrong but reading the book that BOB was based on I have to say they did a good job

  • Moron, this is not about if it is better then BOB

  • god i cant wait too see this!

  • I think comparing this to BOB will be like comparing Saving Private Ryan to The Thin Red Line.

  • I hope it shows historical action and not too much drama.. band of brothers production's style was awesome.. they should stay in that way

  • you're retarded

  • are you kidding me? the pacific theater was worse than the European theater.

  • From who's point of view?

  • no it wasnt

  • @multipl3 that's the biggest contridiction I have EVER heard. it'll be about Marines. the most blood thirsty, ass-kicking, keg-draining, warriors this fine earth has ever seen. God bless the Corps! Semper Fi!

  • Why should god bless the most blood thirsty ass kicking warriors ever seen? Did he tell the Marine Corp to fight in the Pacific? Or did he make the Japanese bomb Pearl in order to get the USA into the war? You are the contridiction.

  • im inclined to think the japanese had more of the bloodthirsty bit. you know, the whole stabbing people with swords and bayoneting millions of chinese civilians thing they had going on.

  • you better read a book about the pacific before you talk of bullshit like ''the most blood thirsty, ass-kicking, keg-draining, warriors this fine earth has ever seen.'' such a human does NOT exists in the pacific meadgrinder.

  • the rangers are better but the marines are #2 in my book

  • bet japan wont bomb anyone elses naval base again

  • I am half white and half Okinawan. My family had to leave Okinawa after the war because many of them were killed and their land was destroyed... but the Okinawans always remembered the generosity of the American soldiers. Okinawans still to this day believe it was the Japanese who were the aggressors and the Americans as their saviors.

  • wow, cant wait!

  • this will be really good but not as good as band of brothers

  • I agree with you CHnews1.

Band of Brothers would be better.

  • why wont it be as good as band of brothers?

  • Der Untergang (The Downfall), is a great German movie about the last days of Hitler in the Fuhrer-bunker in Berlin during the Soviet siege of the city. Although it is "about" Hitler in some sense, it also is about the persepctive of the German soldiers, officers, doctors, secretaries, civilians, and others during that time in Spring 1945.

  • Another great non-american film about war is "A very long engagement" Its french and set in the Great War, and is honestly the best portrayal of the Great War's trench warfare ive seen

  • when is it commin out???

  • Cannot Wait!

  • cant wait, i loved band of brothers series, and seeing as this is director by the same people, omg cant wait

  • Looks great.

Cant wait for it to come out.

  • I live where this was filmed. Northern Queensland, Australia. :D

  • semtex84- you poor bastard, are you a slave of Tully or Shoalwater bay? it was filmed mostly in the Daintree- I live in Port Douglas

  • TOTAL CAN"T FRICKEN WAIT!!

  • No WW2 movies about the german perpective? What about Stalingrad (1993)? Look it up on Wiki.

  • I think they have done enough movies about the war in europe. It's about time that a good film about the war in the Pacific.

  • @animalmother21: Point of view might make Stalingrad extraordinary but as a film, it's just mediocre (or even bad). I've seen it twice and it seems people only like it because of the point of view. Better example? Das Boot. One of the best war movies ever, too.

  • @animalmother21

there are plenty of movies, major wide release movies, about the Eastern Front. Enemy at the Gates comes to mind.

Americans don't make movies showing the German perspective because here in America we hate Nazis. We don't have a problem with looking at things from a foreign perspective - Inglourious Basterds, All Quiet on the Western Front, Dances With Wolves...

    We just hate Nazis.
