  • "fire hazard"

    "looks like shit"

    "Microsoft engineers designed it"

It doesn't get that hot, it's inside the fucking case, and Microsoft engineers half assed the cooling because it's a cheap system, hence the RRoD. This mod works, just listen to the fans after he takes the duct off. They're working harder trying to maintain the temperature instead of having the air fed right to them. It works, now go read up on PC design.

And my processor is 11 degrees right now. Just sayin'.

  • douchebags below... it works.. just dont comment

  • fire hazzard buy a slim

  • i sent my xbox in to microsoft 2 years ago cause rrod and just opened my xbox up cause i got the rrod again and this is how microsoft fixed it.. i complaned to them on the phone and the completly deny it and say they cant continue the conversation.

  • thats sketchy as hell!

  • As soon as he took off the fan shroud you could hear the fans speeding up.

  • ive never seen one modded xbox needless to say they could have put in a little more effort

  • ummmmm.... That is going to catch on fire.

  • if it really was as effective as people say microsoft would have extended the fan shrouds LONG ago..obviously they DID not

  • thats a fire waiting to happen.

after 6 months or so the cardboard will be so dry to will burst into flames.

  • lol thats NOT a fire waiting to happen, but i do like it.. its a pretty good idea.

  • While you get an "A" for effort, the bigger point is that you shouldn't have to do this.

It's a shame that there's no class action lawsuit in place to sue Microsoft for what is essentially a shitty design.

I feel bad for people who bought one of these pieces of crap. No one should have to mod the box like this, and no one should have to go thru all of the other shit that xBox users have gone thru.

  • Yeah I totally agree with you, I have benn p**ssing around with my ''CRAP BOX PLEASE FIX ME'' for bloody ages, I have cut a hole in the top housing/casing so I can mount my fan ontop for more cooling as I have to jasper/falcon gpu heatsink. but I still get e74 error, 1 red light, the only thing I have not tryed is reflowing the chips, I will post vids to show yous :-D

  • Yes very true, I had to put 2 extra core cooling fans to help the problem a bit

  • @trilogypart3 I agree, M$ rushed this product too fast, and could have done better. Looking at he positive point though, at least it allows people to be creative, and maybe take that step towards becoming a first-time modder.

  • wow i think it dont make difrens but you tride it im to trying to make it cooler to make a 200 mm fan on it ITS TOO GOO LOOKING when its done i send you my vid

  • this is some bullshit xbox needs to fix this crap once and for all

  • very nice mod look up mine its awsome to CIA360MODS / xbox 360 cooling mod wach and coment let me know what you guys think!!!!!! yours is very nice mod to

  • lmao stupid fuck put all that shit in his xbox

you might as well throw some fuckin dirty clothes in there too

  • lmao

  • dont do this. not because cardboard is going to burn. is because cardboard is not a heat dissipator. there are more possibilities that the texture of the cardboard helps to retain the heat instead of disspersing it. a good idea but to really make it work you would need to redesigne the air duct. if you opened your xbox to do that, you wouldnt have a problem installing some extra coolers ;).xcm ones recomended. remember to keep your xbox away from any heat generator. give it the spot it deserves.

  • This does work... I know b/c I do the same exact thing.... though I use Nashua ducting tape for over the heat sinks and weld an acrylic divider onto the shroud. Nice vid...

  • Hey, instead of cardboard and electrical tape, why don't you go to home depot or lowes and get some aluminum foil airduct tape. Works way better and it helps disipate the heat, essentially you can use the tape to create a BIGGER heatsink since metal absorbs and disipates heat.

  • the new 360 now come with this duct. nice mod to the ones that don't have it, but caution with the black tape and the heat...

  • lol i was watching funny cats and somehow got to this by following the related searches. curiousity is an amazing thing.

  • yes this does work as there are big gaps around the fan duct also the cardboard helps the dvd drive not get burned by the gpu heatsink. ever pull your game out & think 'holy sh!t thats hot?? it's because the dvd drive sits on the gpu heatsink metal to metal

  • GRRRREAT engineering right there. Well hey...anything to make it fit into that pretty box -__-

  • I haven't taken a close look at the 360 cooling solution; I know it has had troubles but lets keep in mind the cooling solution is, despite skeptics, ENGINEERED. That means they took all variables, heat sources, tolerances and air flow into the cooling equation. They know the proper heat rating of each chipset and accommodate. There could be nothing wrong with your cooling solution...or "concentrating the airflow ^50% could be starving a power supply component or similar from airflow. My $.02

  • This is a very good point your making, i havnt thought of it in that way. I ques you have to choose, personally im stil doing this to every xbox because most of the problems caused by the emense heat greated by the heatsinks therefore i want to cool them as much as posible

  • heatsinks dont make heat they get rid of the heat of the cpu and gpu

  • @driftmanager

Lol people that think that this will caugh fire ARE NOOBS, i work at a console fixing store and i am a professional console expert. so people take it easy, he is using special tape not the one you are using in your office or at home. give this guy some credit

  • @driftmanager

we at the store use different solutions for the rrod. But this fix is nice! you should only have added a extra fan behind the cpu sink. if you have a 2nd gen gpu sink, place it on the end of the heatpipe, airflow will circle the air out. good luck !

  • yeah they looked at every variable...thats why theres more than a 30% failure rate. the problem is shit engineering...and even cheaper tolerances in production.

would we expect any less than the worst from MS?

  • i agree it is a fire hazard, this guy is a dumbass, and it looks like shit sorry guy but just telling the truth so dont get sad or mad...oh and the main problem is overheating, microsoft hit a problem in the design stages they needed to make room for the disk drive, and honestly to kep this from happening would be to put a whisper fan max,and a xcm or is it xmc??oh well a xmc core fan,use and niko intercooler ex and a cooling stand like chill station or something similar...

  • so you agre its heting to hot, yet its a bad idea?? ur not the first to say its a fire hazard, read prveious comts i provided egintion temps for cardboard n tape, and the max temp the heatsinks wil get, if i rememba corect ther was a couple 100degress diftrnc, in other words ITS IMPOSIBLE FOR THE CARDBOARD TO CATCH FIRE. and its been in my xbox for ova a year. UHM does anybody see inside ur xbox???

  • defensive much?

they were only trying to give you some advice

  • its better not to use black tape! with the heat the tape will start to come off...

  • Nice mod. I did a similar mod back in the day with a Compaq that used an external fan to cool the heatsink on a Pentium II.

Might I suggest coating the extended duct with electrical tape? It would have little functional value, but it would protect the cardboard from and possible heat related stress or warping.

  • YES BUT KEEPING IT COOL CAN ALSO HELP

  • yip thast pretty much the fundamental problem bad solder.

  • People are so fucking stupid!!! the plastic would melt on the factory duct work before the cardboard would ignite. He's not cooling the fucking thing with propane your fucking douche bags. So STFU and go choke on a cock

  • In your favor I wasnt paying attention to who made the video. Nice video none the less I've dont a video like this in the past.

  • i never claimed its the ''1st best method of cooling''

  • dude u dont kno ne thing if there are ten people that are sayin it will cause a fire hazzard and doesn't work and one person saying it does then there is something wrong and your just a dumbass

  • So the fact that my xbox has had this inside it for a month doesnt mean anything? The CORE temperature for the xbox processors are around 74'C. Autoignition temperature is the minimum temperature required to initiate or cause self-sustained combustion in a substance in the absence of a spark or flame, and the ignition temperature for PAPER is??? 400-500'C. So please stop posting stupid coments.

  • thats stupid it doesn't help all it does is void your warrenty and make a fire hazzard or cause something to melt

  • This video should be callrd my white trash xbox 360 mod, 50% more overheating and fire hazard.

  • did you replace thouse shitty x-clams on the back of the heat sinks? They have been know to get the RROD as well. beleave it or not I got the rrod with the whispermax fans and it says it's sopose to protect that...... I took thouse x-clams on the heat sinks off and the rrod went away. pretty weird huh.

  • overheating is only one of many causes to the RROD and no cooling system can protect against it only stop it from over heating. the xclamp mod stops the motherboard from flex which is the fundamental RROD cause thats why it works its not weird.

  • another thing why don't you have any heat sinks on your chips under that duct. the chip off to the left of the duct get's vary hot. and the one under is another hot one as well. why don't you add heat sinks to thouse.

  • i do have some now, they work very wel, got 2 with the itro whisper fans.

  • I don't need you to exspline how heat works, I modify systems for a living think I know what I'm doing, so nexted time don't make me feel like an ass. Whisper fans are good, I had thouse in my first mood. but found out the xcm HS fans worked better.

  • LOL ok first of all I modified my system, I have alot better fans then stock, second I have the 65nm system not the 90. and third My systems temps are way cold I run around 22-25 C so I'm doing good. Don't question me on my cooling if yours is not that great. cardboard is the worse to use. that's why most heatsinks are of coper and such because it does not get as hot. what is cardboard really gonna do for you? it does not trap heat so it will be hoter. let your system run for 10 mins and u see.

  • ok i havnt been sad enough to measure the temperature but im prety sure its around the same, and ive got the nitro whisper fans not stock as shown in the vid. ok i wil try and explain it to you again the cardoard concentrates the airflow through the heatsinks thus cooling them more, the cardoard stops air from flowing in places it isnt needed, and the cardoard spliting the fans alow each fan to cool each heatsink individualy.

  • go and pass 12th? your shit does not make since. don't make a shitty mod that is gonna result in fucking up someone else's system. that's what your doing here. you want better coolering leave the top of the case off. put the fan duct back w/o the cardboard and it will give ya better cooling.

  • ok budy just try and think logicaly for a minute of your life, wat do you think hapens when the airflow is seperated and each fan is concentrated on cooling one heatsink? What do you think the ignition temperature for cardboard is? I promise you the heatsinks wil never get hot enough, especialy with the fans cooling them down alot more when they are seperated. So go and play with ur open xbox that doesnt alow the airflow throught out the rest of the motherboard.

  • i am amazed by your stupidity and ignorance to knowledge. Just because you know a thing or two about how hot cardboard hasto be to ignite doesn't mean you know shit about computer engineering, so take that ghetto shit off your box. Better yet, take this ghetto video off of youtube

  • no im more into mechanical engineering and u hav to be a teenager to speculate that this doesnt work and it wil cause a fire.

  • LOL nice try bud does not matter how you vent it it's still the same cooling to begin with. cardboard is not the best thing to use. good way to start a fire at hoter temps.

  • lol go and pas 12th grade science at least, then come back.

  • He's right you fag

lets go put a cardboard add-on inside a system with a history of heat issues. But it's ok, cuz we'll put electrical tape on it so it'll hold.

    dumbass

  • i have never had a single heat problem with my xbox this is to provent problems, once again the heatsinks coot get hot enough, its imposile.

  • hey man i was wondering i got a 360 here n i did the x-clamp fix n i dont want the 3 red lights to come back so i did ur mod i was just wondering thou after u did ur mod hav u ever gotten a red ring? if so how long?? if u havent gotten one then thats good news :)

  • Well it depends. Some 360s will work for like a day, some a week, some a month and some even a year. You can only temperately fix a 360 after 3 RROD, you can't permanent fix it.

  • you dont need to do anything after an x clamp fix, there's a little to none chance of the system getting hot enough to bend an x clamp out of place

  • if u dont use the right parts the x clamps fix will fail i used the 4 different washers in the tutorials in different xboxes n got different results if u use the rubber washers they expand when it heats up n pushes the heatsink up a bit which causes a rrod, plastics washers melt to the board, metal ones cause shortages time to time, the only one that worked really good for me is the spring washers since their a different kind of metal n they constantly put pressure n keep the heatsink in place

  • so far all the washers have given me a red ring around 5 months after the fix but the spring washers have lasted me over a year and a half n still going so im wondering how much longer it will last but im happy with the results

  • what about fibre washers?

  • u guys r dumb as fuck no processor in anything can get hot enough to burn cardboard because if something can get that hot then it wouldnt even be safe to put them on the shelves in the 1st place n besides the 360 has safety precautions from it getting to hot n thats y u get the 2 red lights genius go look it up

  • see, that's where your stupidity shows, obviously the fuckin system could get hot enough to burn cardboard considering there are videos where people friggen fry eggs on their heat sinks.

and the whole reason for the RROD is because the system heated up causing the motherboard to bend which disconnected the CPU

think first, speak later dumb ass.

  • jus because u c this shit in videos u think u know everything i saw that video of the egg frying too if u were smart u would know that he didnt have the fucking plastic thing on so the fans werent cooling the heatsinks which made them to heat up like that and as soon as it gets hot enough the system cuts off n as long as the fans cool the xbox it wont get hot enough to get to the temperature that burns cardboard so y dont u think about wut ur watching before u call me a dumb ass u dumb prick

  • good God ... that is so ghetto ... lol

  • LOLZ!!!

  • ur gay

  • ur mom
