Killer version man-you nailed the tone, groove, and spirit of this great tune, and your chops are fantastic! I think Guthrie is one of the greatest players, but at the moment I like your version better than his because to me a note for note is a cool demonstration, but not as interesting as a unique improvisation. You put your stamp on it, and kicked butt!

Props to you for a killer take on an amazing tune-extremely musical. For my ears, you nailed tone, phrasing and groove. I'm not saying you're better than Guthrie, but I happen to like this take better than his note for note version, simply because I like individual improvisations more than perfect copies of existing tunes.

i keep coming back to this one and guthrie's cover. i love guthrie's cover for the accuracy, i mean he really played it EXACTLY like shawn lane and it's just nice to hear the same song with another guitar sound. And this one i love because of it's originality, you really have a very characteristic tone and boy your impro at the end is just magnificent!

@lavh93 I'm currently using a Digidesign MBox 2 with Pro Tools 8 running on a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. As for mics, I use an SM-57 for all my electric stuff and an SM-27 for my acoustic stuff. Some of my older videos use older equipment, but any that are available in HD such as this one should recorded with the gear listed above.

hey John!

yeah, its the bridge pickup. I get my tone as warm as possible while on bridge. The neck and middle pickups on pretty much any Humbucker equipped guitar dont have enough definition when using a good amount of distortion.

The pedal in the video is a Boss DD-7 Delay. (really awesome IMO) but here's my whole run-up for this song:

EVH Axis-> Boss COMP->TS808->Budda->DD-7->Vood­oo Cab->SM58->Tascam US-122->HP Pavillion Elite->Reaper.

Then in Reaper I add some further compression to smoothen the sound out a little more.
