I'm trying to find the great ABC end transmission music from the mid 80s. It would show sydney at night with the bridge etc panning over TV antennas on old roofs. It had a real ambient music piece with it. Anyone know where I can find that?
My recollection is typically dim, but I'm fairly certain there was another, more localised version of this opening (would also have been around 83-84). The announcer reeled off a list of all the relay stations in regional Victoria, and their associated channels. Just what I wanted when I was impatient to watch Sesame Street!
I'd say this is pre 1982 as it lists ABMKQ9 which was the relay station for the Queensland town Mary Kathleen which was abandoned around 1982 after the closure of the Uranium mine.
The ABC commenced in 1956 (as did commercial TV in Australia). As this broadcast is in colour, it has to be after 1975. The voiceover commences with a reference to the 'Australian Broadcasting Corporation', so this must have been broadcast after 1 July 1983, when the Corporation replaced the former Australian Broadcasting Commission.
That would probably sound about right. I noticed that the background music is "Affair of the Heart" by Rick Springfield, which was released in March, 1983. The album it was from, "Living in Oz", was released in June, 1983. I happen to be a Rick Springfield fan myself as well as a logo and station ident fan.
I am absolutely shocked that you think that the ABC started in 1953. Australian TV didn't start 'til 1956. Also, does this look from the 60's, considering that its not in black and white and that there are computer graphics involved?
But generally, if you are from another country, fine, but if you are from Australia, saying such stupid things is unacceptable.
mudb1234 1953-1956 to be 3 years out as a guesstimate is nothing. Get of your high horse, with your holier than thou attitude, but if the truth is known you probably do have an attitude problem.
I remember that song. Affair of the heart.

A other matter concerning the Australian electronic media.
ClimateGate, has had no recognition here in Australia, DELIBRATELY!
That is how deep these eco-freak environmentalists have infiltrated the Australian Media!
But, a plan is forming and the environmentalists in the media better prepare, they better get use to being on the other side of the door.

ABC would have started transmission in about 1953 but I think this is just a promo from the 1960's thank for showing anyway.

ABC started transmission in 1956, and this would be a promo from the early-to-mid 80s.
