V&M's performance looks more cleaner..its also sharper than B&A...Also V&M's outfits stood out more than B&A's...which practically blended w/ the ice floor..I liked B&A too actually..they are very swift in their skating & very presentable..yet I like the chemistry that V&M show more than that of V&M
Virtue and Moir are quicker in their movements. With this comparison it is easy to see Tanith is the lesser of the four skaters, understandable since she switched to ice dance after doing pairs.
@tinymavy Thank you! I was trying to understand why I always felt that Belbin/Agosto skated very slowly and heavily sometimes and you're totally right, it's because they're slower in their movements
as hard as i try to watch the left of the screen, i cant. virtue and moir have more raw emotion, are crisper, cleaner, closer together, etc. virtue and moir are far more talented.
Altho I am partial to B&A, I agree...on this one VM are a few notches better...and Scott really cuts a beautiful and commanding figure to the point of even obscuring Tessa. They are so much more polished than BA. Note, don't forget that Tanith is/was ex-Russian-Canadian.
Belbin is a Russian-originated name. Heard of Lenin? Putin? Stalin? Bulganin? Rasputin? Tanith is probably a 2nd generation Canadian-Russian and a 1st generation US citizen.
Jamasarsano, I like what you say about traditionally in ice dance the women have been stronger skaters in the pair.
But IMHO truly great ice dance teams r be equal in terms of technique etc., again, Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean, the best example, Marina Klimova & Sergei Ponamerenko another (altho Marina's so beautiful it's always hard to notice Sergei's technique!).
One of many reasons why V&M r SO interesting 4 me. Tessa & Scott r equals.
Actually that's true. Like most viewers I watch the lady more than the gentleman in the dance - those pretty dresses - but I've recently noticed how much better Scott is than anyone.
The top 3 ladies are all fairly evenly matched. I've read someone today saying that Tanith is better than Tessa, but I can't see it here.
Historically the ladies are stronger. Gusmeroli, Annisina, Bourne and Lobacheva always struck me as equal to or better - in Gusmeroli's case much better - than their gents.
franzlfan, it was not too powerful. Just the right medium. watch den/stav Waltz to ravensburger at Olympics...or their Golden Waltz at Euros... they have a lot more power.
look at the first lunge and see where tanith's foot is angled. It should be pointed but it is straight up in the air and looks terrible. Little details like that V&M have perfected!!
There´s a slight adventage for V/M in this video since the tune used here is the same they had in Paris.
But anyway, hard to choose. Both very well technically and you can really notice it in B/A who used to be clearly weaker in the compulsories in the past. The posture of the guys looked more forced than the ladies in both. I give the skating skills to the Canadians and the performance/interpretation to the Americans
I agree... Much more powerful, deeper edges, they're really down in their knees, and also the choice of black is far more appropriate. I like their expression much more, as well, but that's even more subjective. The camera is placed differently though, so you can see VM better than BA, it might help give a better impression.
@ChachouMiaou i agree with the camera angle, and obviously the black costumes. b/a blended more with the ice surface while v/m in black stood out more against the ice. i do have to say v/m was more consistent with their timing than b/a.
great job to get them matching! it's so hard to tell from one competition to another - you can't really compare marks etc. cause fo the different panels but it's nice to see the 2 skates side-by-side! Thanks again!
oo wow. im not a figure skater or anything-i know nothing of it really lol-but i prefer VM. They seem more fluid and seem to be skating with greater speed and power.. I also prefer the black costuming as it contrasts better with the ice I think. What i've just said may actually be complete rubbish though, as it is coming from a non-skater. But still, it's how I feel :D

definetly virtue and moir ,, tanith and belbin seem like their missing something
sammi2346 1 year ago
Virtue and Moir definitely had a cleaner and more precise skate. Also, I found it neat that B&A wore white and V&M wore black. xD

I completely forgot there was even a left screen the moment Virtue and Moir danced.

I give the edge to Virtue/Moir.

What do you mean Tanith is ex-Russian-Canadian?

Belbin is a Russian-originated name. Heard of Lenin? Putin? Stalin? Bulganin? Rasputin? Tanith is probably a 2nd generation Canadian-Russian and a 1st generation US citizen.

Belbin is actually a name of Anglo-Saxon origin.
twilso96 2 years ago
Really? What other similar-sounding Anglo-Saxon names are there?

THANK you for posting. REALLY facinating. All top three/four couples are great. V&M, B&A, D&W and K&K.
Here:
Edges & Closeness - V&M
Male partner - pref Scott Moir to Ben Augusto
Female partner - usual pref for Tessa Virtue.
However, overall, I prefered B&A in this dance for flow, ease, grace etc. Hmm...!
However, for a truly perfect compulsory dance: Torvill & Dean Westminster Waltz 1984 Winter Olympics.

I just went to check. They were about 1/10th of a point apart (V&M ahead) - in different competitions, but the first for both.
jamarsano 2 years ago
Edges are everything, so is closeness. V&M win here hands down - though both teams are so gorgeous, it's hard to pick a favourite.
jamarsano 2 years ago 4
Oh yeah also no one compares to Scott, he is so much better than Ben & this dance shows that in every way.

Unless you are blind it's obvious that V&M are the far superior team here.
Hands down there is no comparison.

Woo, I prefer BA to VM. This is waltz.. It needs soft transition, not too power. I also think BA improved their posture. It looks gorgeous.

Most couples wear white for the Golden Waltz compulsory, so I'm not sure that black is more appropriate, though the costumes are lovely.
