  • ¡Me encanta!

  • I do African dance. But our moves r tight and togetger

  • Hop, I bet you enjoy the rosy smell of your dung as well. I take several styles of west African dance, and each teacher teaches dances from many different tribes. But at the end of the day, it's people dancing together to the rhythm of the drum. And we call it African dance, because no matter where you come or go from, the effect is the same. The dance styles may change, but unlike other general cultures, african dance is always about unity, community, spirituality, honor, and fun. Try hoppin

  • I gotta say this is not "AFRICAN DANCING" because it is not specific to any region, ethnic group or part of Africa - looks like random steps put together they felt were "African"

    A for effort though

  • may I know the title of the song? thanks.

  • God, people really piss me off. Who cares if it's labeled African dancing? Ar eyou ashamed of it, because I'm not?! It's from Africa which means it's African dancing? Why does where it come from specifically matter so much? It's not going to change any ones lives. I swear people just come with a reason to blow things out of proportion.

  • I know to the term african dance is very generally, but you have to understand. A lot of us African Americans don't know the region, country, or tribe we came from once we were brought to America. Some of us are trying to get back to our roots. You can get mad or insulted by the label. Maybe you can help us with that.

  • As a performer, I do agree that the name of the dance and the region the dance is from should always be in the description when posting video... That way we are giving credit to the source.

  • People, there is NO SUCH THING AS "AFRICAN DANCE" there is no such thing as "West African Dance" There is no such thing as "Nigerian Dance" There is too much diversity WITHIN African countires to label a dance as "African." The whole concept is just insulting

  • @HOP499 I don't find it insulting at all. It would be way too much work to specifically define this exact dancing It's a form of African dancing.....what's so insulting about that? I'm west African and i someone were to label something as west african dance i would be totally fine with that. If it originated from west africa, what's the problem? Just enjoy the dance and stop thinking too much into it. It's honestly not that serious -_-

  • @TalyalovesNick Salsa, Flamenco, Tango and Merenge are four dances from Spain, but people show respect to the variety of cultures within Spain and don't just call them all Spanish Dance, they call them by their proper names. Also the people who teach these dances are not lazy and tend to put the effort in to knowing the history of these dances. If you are a teacher and too lazy to specifically define this exact tpye of dance you really shouldn't be teaching this subject to others.

  • @HOP499 but they're still all different forms of spanish dancing. No, I'm not a teacher (I'm not even old enough) I just don't feel like there's a reason to specify it because when it comes down to it........it's dancing. It's a form of African dance regardless of where it's from and all that matters is your appreciation of the dance. I know the history of my West African dances!

  • Comment removed

  • @TalyalovesNick Yes they are different forms of Spanish dancing but we show RESPECT to these different dances and the different cultures that surround these dances by differentiating and naming them. We show respect to Latin American cultures by specifying their dances, we show respect to Indian cultures by specifying their dances. The key here is RESPECT, you may “like” the dance, but you clearly have no respect for the dance or culture it came from if you label it “African Dance.”

  • @HOP499 Don't expect them to understand this.

    They're not us.

    They don't TRULY understand us.

They think that being ghanaian is like being nigerian or south african or togolese and so on.

My god they can't even find our countries on the map.

It's has been a long time since i've stopped telling them that AFRICA IS NOT A COUNTRY BUT A FUCKING CONTINENT.

  • I love this video!! It's great, I wish people could be more respectful for such wonderful things. We all are decents of the africans on this planet, but some are closer, such as people like me who are half African American.

  • cool dance but im ethiopian and that's not at all my dancing culture so the title should be what ever country this dance originates from

  • the girl with the afro did her thing

  • what the **** is this so-called African-dance? Can you learn or do a little bit research?

  • is it soo hard to state the country's name? there 54 countries in that continent and the tribes dont all have the same culture!

  • I literally clapped even if I knew they couldn't hear me!! hahaha

It may be modernized/ americanized but I liked it anyway

  • Rubbish! Please see how Africans dance before calling this American rubbish African dance!!

  • i love it

  • i think its nice to see americans doin west african traditional dancing, but id like to s ee them do congolese-which is also traditional/african. All modern american dance are just versions of african dance

  • Wow

  • do you suppose that people of african descend would dance with related styles?

    like its in the dna

  • wow

  • I agree, It's Amazing!

  • very nice!!!

  • Very nice!!!!!

  • o.o holy crap i remember that show

  • Its sad what happened to many Africans who were dragged to the US in chains but this video you can see where modern hip hop, pop style dancing came from...It think the entire world has to admit that if it wasnt for African American's, modern music and dance would not exist in its current form...

  • @PIlotrcm don't be ignorant where do you think hip hop came from? it all can from African dance, some musician have even admitted to copying African dance styles. I think they did a great job GOOD JOB GIRLS LOVE IT

  • @PIlotrcm You mean the "souljah boy dance" "dougie" "Aunt Jackie" and all the cooning we see?!

I am an African American and even I know not to brag about that crap!

Respect the dance of your ancestors - don't come on an African video tryna give yourself props!

  • Me encanta la energia con la que danzan!!!

  • Beautiful dancing...original. I feel you goodlookintookin017....and they don't even recognize. ONE

  • very instinctive ; I love african dance; the drum is my stimulus; the expression of the body when dancing african is the most natural; Africa is my homeland. I feel bad that this continent was exploited to be left impoverished.

  • LOve it

  • i think everyone needs to get their facts straight before they try to prove people wrong.

  • omg this is amezing

  • AWESOME! Beautiful. thanks for sharing!

  • they was gettin down

  • luv it

  • ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • The most important is that, this little kid embrace their African root. We have to understand that our brothers and sister in America have separated from our continent for more five hundred years is long separation. The dance is from part of senegal, gambia and Mali, because country are very active in promoting west African dance and Music. The hip pop is like Malian,Senegalese and gambia Griot were messege send to people through music and dance, in Africa every part have their own dance.

  • "America have separated from our continent for more five hundred years is long separation."

Yeah, tell that to the Alvin Ailey dancers.....

  • u guys need to stop being cute with yo lil' game...its not gettin u or any body anywhere. give it up ppl and stop trippin over some bullshit, aint worth

    peace y'all

  • tchip c'est pas africain sa vient de quel pays?En tout qu'a c'est nul

  • I grew up in NY and Hip Hop came from Black folk

  • I agree with suzannemarie1

  • you are african in music and german in way thought

  • you americans are half black since blacks come from africa all you invented is part of african culture

  • that's not true

  • u cow hip hop come from africa.

  • be careful - im black so dont generalise hip hop - the music was created in new york by the black community - a mixture from pop and funk from the white and european community - its origins isnt from black people. Secondly "black" americans orignated from west africa and not hip hop - west african themed music like chants, beats and hollers came from africa yeah but not hip hop... sorry guys if this person offended anyone - basically hip hop DID NOT come from africa

  • Hip hop started off with blacks my friend and rap came in from west africa dereived from groits a form of poetry in west africa and evolved.

Hip hop pioneer was jamiacan Dj clive aka kool herc. So i dont know what history your talking about. But u better check it out again.

P.s im not pro black or anything of the sort, im just stating facts. Do some history before spewing wrong information.

  • Hip hop was created by the african american community. Maybe i overg generalised on hip hop its self. But hip hop now consists of rap which comes from west africa and was known as groit. But either way hip hop is from the black community. I s my point.

  • but ur still saying "hip hop" came from the black community--- my reply, partly but european and south american influences were intertwined too - yes the raw basics of hip hop came from western africa and southern africa group gospel songs - but im just saying it wasn't the blacks entirely (yes they formed the first hip hop records)- and its a bit of common sense that hip hop changes through many different influences including pop, funk and rock n roll from european backgrounds.

  • And you just contradicted yourself, it originated from africa and the black community before it mixed with other groups years later. Which is my point it started and originated from the black and african communities. Im not saying white people have not contributed to it, hello eminem.

As long as 2 groups live together they are bound to intertwine that does not mean the origin should be displaced. In africa today thanks to the europe alot of people speak english, with african accents does that

  • mean that english is an african language nope but its now become a part of it.

  • bla bla bla............. ur basically saying wht i said - hip hop originated from the black community - the roots came from western africa, europeans intertwined to produce hip hop - simples so hip hop is a mixed genre of music but predominantly assosiacted with the black community because of its ROOTS... the END :)

  • Correction...Hip hop was largely influenced by Jamaican dance and music. It was the offsprings of jamaicans who created it (for the most part)

  • I don't know where you got that from but ok sure why not your going to believe what you want and i'm going to believe my facts so I'm going by me and you go by you :)

  • that's wrong i'm sorry to say no disrespect to you but alot of gangsta rap if you are referring to was created in CA MWA mad that for the fuck the police and rebellious against racist whites rock n roll was something that run dmc did a great job in to say that european did any creating of hip hop is a understanding but i'm not supprise people think whites created rock n roll

  • lol sorry i said hip hop im ment to say rap ive just realised. Lol these days they are interchangeable. But ITS RAP NOT HIP HOP lol.

  • @FuturisticXXL

how in the hell did dsouth african gospel songs influence hip hop. there no south africans in america like that.

    black americans invented gospel music.

  • i'm sure that's not false since their are alot of beat samplying I personally never heard of west africa hip hop but i'm opened :) are you african?

  • hiphop came from new york but i'm sure africa was big influence on hiphop

  • basically yes lool

  • Hip hop came from new York and was greatly influenced by Jamaican dance and music. In fact it was the offsprings of Jamaicans who had a large hand in its creation

  • Completely true and accurate!! Thank you islandjamdung

  • @islandjamdung

@island sorry but no. what happened was a jamaican man put a reggae beat and a james brown song together and created a hip hop beat. but black americans invented break dancing, rapping, mixtapes ect.

blacks in america created hip hop mostly.

the jamaican dude himself couldn't make a hip hop beat if it wan't for james brown.

  • @islandjamdung Hip Hop came out of black Jazz, not Jamaican music.

  • That is right! it came out of NY energy - all the kids created beats from inside of them - handed down from their African ancestry. Yes Spareld.

  • Well then check out SHUGGIE OTIS

    BOOTIE COOLER.

  • hey uhm, was this at the kimmel center OMG b/c it looks like my dance school performing. Canaan I.O.T.A. ??

  • great!

  • omg

hip hop comes from africa idiot... u r so silly idiiots..

  • oh so africans invented beat boxing, breakdancing and rapping. us dumb americans we thought we did it first and so does EVERYONE else

  • This is really bad. They should take the time to learn the movements and understand the reason behind them. People think African dance is just wild when it is really stylized

  • lo unico que puedo decier es

    WOOW!!!

  • THEY DID GO BUT SOMEMESSED UP

  • It's amazing how Africans have their own dancins styles that Americans use and turn it into "walk it out" and "swag surfing"

  • u r right...and den stupid americans say :thats mixed with "hip hop" OMFG stupid americans..

  • @goodlookintookin017 lots of countries have their own dances like greece irelnd etc :)

  • @MonkeyMiniMe, I think you will find that most if not all dances derive from the Motherland..AFRICA...AKEBULAND....ETHIOPIA.....NUBIA...

  • @goodlookintookin017 - I am a West African dancer and have been studying this type of dance, Djembe, and Sabar, and if you look at all the dance moves that we do, 96% of it derived from African Dance moves, and yes, the stanky leg, walk it out, ALL-A-THAT!

  • even though it's alot different to the dance we see today..it's very effective and has loads of feeling..they have such amazing amounts of energy! I have to give credit to these african people..they have the best athletes and entertainers in the world!

  • Great dance and effort. These young ladies deserve props. .....From just reading the couple comments I read posted I'm sure most of the rest of the replies are similar......NIGGA MENTALITY.....CRAB IN A BUCKET...b.s attitudes...The old saying goes if you have nothing good to say....But being as that a lot of us still cling onto what the colonists did (regardless of location) some of us will continue to bash our brothers from elsewhere simply to pump an ego. Insecurity is very unattractive. SAD.

  • Rude racist remarks over the internet makes you a coward. Quite frankly, you need to get wayyy over yourself because no one asked for your two cents in this discussion. Your offensive bullshit is a cute little game =) good job !!

  • DA SHIT.!

  • NOT ALL !! I am not Nigerian but do have a lot of friends from there- all of whom are decent high achieving adults who are making a decent living through honest means.

Your generalization is very unfair and offensive.

  • what the hell is this? african dance is kwasa kwasa...or ndombolo...what is this?

  • what do you about african dnace!!!u wack ass!!!

  • Dude, Africa is made of 55 COUNTRIES, as in like the united states, canada, australia. Full countries with their own capitals, trade, ethnic groups, languages. Etc. So how in the world would every body in that entire continent be doing kwasa kwasa or ndombolo? Does that even make sense?

  • lolzz teus shit cuz im nigerian and i speak a different language

  • This is bullshit. This is NOT african dance! i've taken master classes with teachers From Africa and they don't dane all lazy and flailing like this!

  • give them some credit.... they ar etrying to appreciate the culture and dance

i give them an a for effort :)

  • Appreciating the culture and imitating it are 2 different things. If they want to appreciate it they should actually LEARN it before showing it to people like it's authentic when they just slapped some shit together and called it african dance

  • this is african dance dumb ass

  • Um actually it isn't really. This is LIKE African dance. And who are you to tell me? Not only is half of my family from the west coast of Africa, I've been attending African dance conferences since I was 3 or 4 and I've studied from master teachers from Ballets Africains.

  • Hahahahahahaha. Burn! And yeah, I agree. It is just like it, but it isn't actually it.

  • @kikibaker101 Traditional moves change over-time. People have created new moves by innovating. Your basically saying if I created a African dance all of the moves have to be straight from traditional west Africa. No.

Because dance is constantly changing and people are adding there own twists to it. I have created African moves myself and you can't sit there and tell me they aren't African because you haven't seen them done by your master teachers.

  • @dasanmitchell Actually no, TRADITIONAL moves do not change. It is not wrong to be innovative and create African-like movements, but that's all it will ever be. African-like. If you traveled to Fas in Senegal and created "Sabar-like" dance, calling it traditional, you'd see that you are doing something completely different than everyone else there. Unlike American society, they have preserved their culture for centuries, and it's not right for us to change it and call it traditional. It's NOT.

  • @kikibaker101 Traditional moves do change essentially. I doubt people are dancing the exact same way that they did 100 years ago in Africa. People all over the place are doing it differently. So how are you going to tell which one is traditional? I doubt that if I created a Sabar dance making my own moves that it would look completely different then what people are doing in Senegal. So if I use Sabar movements and create my own dance then it's traditional because Sabar is traditional.

  • @dasanmitchell If what you're saying is true, what distinguishes authentic from created? Traditional from modern? Essentially, your argument is: nothing. And it's true, everything is subjective. But I feel that if we allow ourselves to redefine what traditional West African dance (granted I'm being very non-descript) based on our own interpretations rather than what the people themselves have done for generations, what is original will be lost. Take into account the history of each dance also.

  • If those they are AFrican American dancing this dance that's fair enough. They did they best and if they still like connecting to the roots!!! I think Im proud of what they did here! They did put their moves. But Those are real Africans out of the line!! Their need a therapy!! That's not really african!! okay combined together their did a gud job~~~

  • what i love with african, is they knows their history, plus this big continent is the key of the world, where the begining started.

  • Africa: It's where the beginning started.

  • 0:36 Sista was breakin it down

  • mmmm very interesting - it looks like hip hop was connected to this.... im not saying for sure - great dance!!! btw... does any1 know where hip hop originated from? - i think its from the slave trade when the poor africans started up their own dance to try and comfort them from the sadness of being away from their homeland... or summin like that. Anyways the dance was interesting and fun to watch! :)

  • you need a history lesson...breaking and hip hop has roots in african dance but breaking and modern hip hop developed out of funk in the 80s

  • oooook thanks for that info :P

  • African culture began many millenia before the slave trade; ergo African dance didn't begin with the slave trade. Of course, during that time, one of the ways of maintaining and re-establishing our identity was through traditional dance and natural cadence(ie, drumbeats and song). Hip Hop is a descendant of those same tradition dances and drum beats. Also, since African Americans are a diaspora from the entire continent of Africa, we see an amazing mix of influences within the genre of Hip Hop.

  • it was tight i aint african but i do get mistaked dey think im from libya lol i passed my africa geogphy test in the 6th grade im goin to 7th right but dats was tight i would love to learn u kno

  • as a matter of fact this is an african dance and so what if their not from africa? The phantom of the opera play aren't authentic french ppl neither are all the members of Lord of the Dance. Get a grip on yourself.

  • i dont know where they learnt this dance but i think its made up, thats not the african dance i know and seen growing up

  • I'm a West African and this dance step can be found in some areas of Gambia, Senegal(third dancer)and Nigeria have similar dance steps like the second dancer. The dance style is african

  • umm hate to break it to you sweetie, but Africa is a HUGE place. And in different regions there are different types of dancing. I used to take african dance class in LA, from Senegal and Chad region, this looks sort of similar so I'm assuming this dance is somewhere in west africa.
