Does this ship currently have a full compliment of guns or were they simply all moved to one side to make this happen? Last I heard it only has half the number of guns it originally carried (of course, that number varies too!).
If not, it'd be nice even to have the rest be dummies (foam with a steel tube?) that can handle similar pyrotechnics.
and the reason we still have the Victory with us today is because of a 98 gun second rate ship called Temeraire or The Fighting Temeraire to give her the correct post Battle of Trafalgar name.
English very well you sell your story but what interests you, the greatness and victories as the Battle of Trafalgar but defeats as the Battle of Cartagena de Indias in 1741 did not you count, nor are you doing movies like Master and Commander.
You are not as powerful as you believe, the story is to show him
@plusultra86 keep in mind that Prince, a 98-gun 2nd rate, captured her. War isn't always about who has the most guns; when you get right down to it, it is ALWAYS man vs. man. Nelson, and each captain in the King's Navy, was worth more than any first rate ship.
@pugilistofpower The Holy Trinity sank several ships in the UK, before being attacked by several British ships at a time, they failed to sink!
He was captured by the British because they had a ship as powerful as the Spanish ship. They tried to gibraltrar to repair, but the storm that hit for 3 days did not save it pudierais and ended sunken boat near Gibraltar.
That ship sank in a storm I preferred rather than being English ....
Study English history, that one counts only what interests you.
@plusultra86 The Trinidad was the largest ship in the world but at a price. It was built as a 112 gun first rate but was fitted out with more guns first in 1796 to make it a 130 and then again in 1802 to make it 140 guns. These extra guns were the smaller variety and they were crammed in to any available space. The result was a lot of firepower, but the cost of this was a slower and much less maneuverable ship. Victory had 104 heavy guns but also had great movement for its size.
@plusultra86 Coulds and woulds are meaningless, I'm afraid. You're speaking about hypothetical situations two centuries ago. The war was long ago lost so why go on about it?
@pugilistofpower Excuse me, but I'm not me or my country, who is dedicated to film and movie, Master and Commander, and remember their victories makes two centuries ...
With respect I can also tell my country's victories against the English ...
and do not need to shoot movies, I just need to visit the museum of my city and my country. bye
@plusultra86 Please do. I couldn't care less. It's merely nationalism.... we're all friends now afterall. Every nation has won and lost battles in the past. No need to get upset over it today.
Pierre-Charles de Villeneuve was a fool, what if the french won that day? Would we speak french instead of english? Atleast the food would be better...
@TheShaitt Villeneuve was not a fool. His tactics were perfectly appropriate for the situation. He was defeated by superior training, especially gunnery, and better guns.
@chezmeg Sorry to tell you mate but the guns are all fakes, they are made from GRp , the ones that surround the ship are not even naval cannons, they are army barrels.
@BigFanOfStarWars I know it would have been a superb spectacle however HMS Victory is in dry dock so a full broadside all at once would probably tip this beautiful ship over =(.
@BigFanOfStarWars I read a book on 16th century Ships and so on and apparently they didn't fire every cannon at once because not only would it be discomforting for the crew but it would also put the ship and the hull (usually made of oak) under huge distress.
@BigFanOfStarWars The broadside would have been fired on the up-roll as a wave passed below the ship, so that's why the firing rolls rather than going off all at once.
Always nice to see these old ships fire their guns. Really impressive! I saw some at sail Amsterdam, I think it was a Swedish ship, that delivered a broadside. A real one (but no cannon balls of course). I hope ''De Zeven provinciën'' will be finished soon. They have been working on it for decades now:(
Tu Che. We still managed to capture the HMS Java, Guerrier, and Macedonian, as well as numerous brigs and sloops, proving the "invincible" British navy to be no match for American ingenuity. Oh and the bloodbath Andrew Jackson and a bunch of farmers gave the redcoats at new orleans. And thanks for trying to capture baltimore, our national anthem tells how that turned out.
@deadkennedy00 war of 1812?...hmm the war of 1812? Ah yes the one where those annoying, uncivilized Yanks tried to invade Canada and were humiliated when the British invaded their capital, forcing them to retreat miles down south and to top it off burned down Washington including their precious White House! Not long after the French were routed at Waterloo, Ah those were good times.
@NovocastrianUK Yes, that did happen, but only to be completely routed in both New Orleans and Baltimore. Never the less, I believe we should be focusing our insults on the real enemy, the French. Which is why I have tremendous respect for the HMS Victory.

man these ain't even real cannons! if this were a finnish celebration they would actually deliver a real broadside without some stupid smoke effects. I've actually been next to a 12caliber cannon when it was fired and I couldnt hear nothing for atleast 15mins. this is nothing.
@sweSUCKS please be informed that the decks would being in drydock no longer take the weight of the original guns. also the fact they were removed many years before!

That there is a ship I believe she's the oldest ship above water. The US Constitution being second.

actually its not the guns firing.., its pyrotechnic strapped to the barrels of the guns.

Actually they never fired all at once because the simultaneous recoil would have stressed the ship's timbers too much.

The Spanish ships, santa ana, lightning, Prince of Asturias and Holy Trinity, had more than 100 guns and were more potent than victory.
But all these Spanish ships were commanded by Villeneuve(French)who knew nothing of the sea.and had to obey his orders.
If France and Spain was led by a Spanish admiral ...
Nelson would return to Spain losing to
Expedition of St. John, Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the assault on Cadiz.
All with Spanish victory and defeat British (with Nelson defeated)
